    I love your videos. They're so well shot and relaxing - I'm using them to remind me why I'm studying for the DAT! Keep em coming!

      Thanks Evan! Appreciate the kind words.. good luck with the DAT!! definitely would recommend crackdatpat for the perceptual test... Its a software program that really helped me when I took the test about 9 and a half years ago.

    This was interesting, good advice. I admittedly am one of those people that said just pull it, twice, both times were back teeth that I had a lot of pain & yes just wanted it over with for the least money possible. Also I had heard horror stories about root canals & the whole root not having been removed, I guess that 10% you mentioned.
    Anyway, the reason I decided to comment was that I hadn't thought about the extra stress on the other teeth, what I have noticed is seeing in future xrays how the teeth shifted to try to close the space. Kind of interesting too because I have a couple wisdom teeth I kept because the space provided room for them.
    Great channel, I'm glad I came across it, very interesting & you are right that it takes some of the fear out of it, getting to see what actually goes on. Thank you 🙂

    I love your tips. Unfortunately, it looks like the fluoride rinse and xylitol gum are in Canada. I live in the US and the fluoride rinses I use are from Act and Listerine but it’s at 0.02% not 0.2% fluoride 😕

    Thank you for making this video! I have a question, between filling and crown there are inlay and onlay right? Can you make a video about that? Thanks

    I love your channel! I would travel to California for all my dental visits if I could! I’m going to educate myself as I’ve been through so much bad dental treatment but I feel armed with information because of your wonderful videos! Do you have a huge wait list? I’d be surprised if you didn’t!

    Can you do a video on how to live like a normal human but not have an acidic mouth? For example, like a lot of people, I like drinking tea with lemon (no sugar) but now I've heard that this is bad for your teeth. Ugh. Can the calcium in milk help remineralize teeth? Is there a remineralizing mouth wash? Thanks a lot.

      Lol cow milk isn’t good for you. It’s called cow milk for a reason, and not human milk. Better to take calcium supplements instead. Many plant based milks does contain calcium.

      Swish and drink something neutral or alkaline after you eat. Like water or unsweetened green tea.

    Great video as always!
    I do have a bit of a weird question though. Isit normal for North American dentists to crown almost all root canalled side teeth? I’ve heard that as advise from multiple channels of US dentists and now you sort of imply it too and it confuses me cause I’ve been taught that the whole weakening the tooth isn’t true (i mean yes it is but only cause usually teeth that need rct usually have less healthy substance left and not cause of the rct) and so you only wanna crown if the tooth actually needs it.
    Also I can only advise people to get plaque disclosing tablets or mouth wash to check at home which areas they don’t pay enough attention to.

      Great comments. I don't crown all posterior root canal treated teeth, but most. The root canal itself doesn't weaken the tooth, but the hole made in the top of the tooth in order to gain access to the root canal system. If I see that a patient has a healthy bite, and the cavity that caused the need for the root canal was only limited to the top surface of the tooth, and not the side of the tooth, then I am more inclined to do a filling. This is quite rare - normally the proximal (or side) tooth structure is involved or missing, leaving the tooth very weak after a Root canal. I've seen too many giant build-ups with filling material performed after RCT that have led to the tooth splitting, or fracturing in an unrestorable manner. My advice is, when in doubt - crown back teeth after RCTs. It's the safe option, assuming the restorative dentist is competent in conservative crown and bridge work. Front teeth are a whole other story, and I rarely crown them after RCT. Sometimes you end up doing more damage when you crown them than good.

      Michael the Dentist thanks for your extended reply! Im still early in my studies so we only get told half the story but my uni seems to be very keen on conservative therapy (partial crowns and stuff like adhesive bridges for gaps when ever possible) and our lectures have been about a lot of „crowns are the last resort“

    • @MichaeltheDentist
      @MichaeltheDentist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's better to err on the conservative side than the aggresive side :) That's a good philosophy to have... "crowns are the last resort". I think in most cases this is true. I have just seen too many RCT'd molars with beautiful direct composites split right down the middle and have to be extracted. Perhaps if the accesses were done super conservatively, the story would be different? Unfortunately, most dentists access molars in a not-so-conservative manner, leaving the tooth very weak. Even with a microscope, I feel like I can't do a good job with an endo unless I open up the access significantly - magnification definitely helps me keep the hole smaller, but not to the same degree that some endodontists can.

      Michael the Dentist that makes a lot of sense :) and I guess conservation doesn’t help much if it only leads to problems quicker. Thanks for your replies!
