im not usually one of those people who reflexively upgrades to the latest thing, but I love my az80s so much - probably the only device other than my phone that I use every day - that I'll be there day one for the az100.
I’m a fan of Panasonic sound devices since middle school when they announced ultra thin tape player. Panasonic has been always so quiet but always have very quality products. So I just bought the az100 without a second hesitation.
I have both the 80 and now the 100. Are the 100s better in a lot of ways? Yes, yes they are. In every way but one. They don’t have crisp clear highs that tickle my brain like the 80s do. So for me, they will probably be going back. Could I fix that issue via EQ? No. Adjusting the eq doesn’t make the highs higher they make the highest highs louder. These will be going back. I also don’t think the bass is as clear as the 80s. The bass feels muddier.
That wasn't my experience with the AZ100s, but of course, this is a personal thing. I find the bass on the AZ100s to be one of its strongest features and not muddy at all. The lack of bass on the AZ80 wasn't really noticeable to me until I compared them directly with the AZ100 on EDM and synth rock. Extended but firm witthout being mushy. The fit is crtical though, so you might want to experiment with the 5 different sized eartips before returning them. And also make sure they are plaed in your ear properly with the metal front face pointing up. It's easy to put them in wrong and this does change the sound because it can lead to an inadequate seal.
@brentonrobar2400 according to the Technics employees at CES, in Japan and in the United States, it's pronounced TechNEEKs. In Europe they decided to pronounce it Technicks and the Japanese were too polite to correct them. So it stuck.

can barely hear you. Frustrating.
😢 plenty loud
@parhamf5066 - have you considered better headphones? Perhaps a pair from Technics?
8 Band EQ, but you can't change the Q ?? What's up with that? My $114 , Nothing Ear 2024 EQ's customization is better!
Still doesn't sound as good though.
Technics....not Techniques. Say pyro-technics. Same word.
