He would say anything! There's a very, very long list of men who would tell you that he didn't have sex with them just for the image of that character! He tried to keep his many affairs with women secret in the early years, because of his marriage to the mentally disturbed Angie. He liked to lie to the press, and what he said in the cocaine years was different from what he said in the straighter years. He liked being a mystery. He seems to have been a much better husband and father the second time around, yet still far from ordinary. In the end, most of those people seemed to still care for him, no matter what he said! RIP David.

Mick Ronson was a major part of Bowie's sound in his early albums. A talented guitarist and arranger, his contribution/influence cannot be underestimated. Life on Mars being an example. Together with Trevor Bolder on bass and Woody Woodmansey on drums, Bowie had a tight little band with the Spiders from Mars.
As for the lyrics, I believe they were created using the William Burroughs technique of cutting out phrases and mixing them up. There was a BBC Omnibus documentary Cracked Actor which features this.
It would be interesting to see your reaction to the live version on the David Live album. Many songs have different arrangements on this album. Earl Slick plays guitar. It was on his Diamond Dogs tour when he was shifting towards the more soulful style of his "Young Americans" album which includes "Fame".

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars... thats the concept. A bisexual, alien rockstar called Ziggy Stardust, his band are the Spiders from Mars. The whole story plays out over the course of the album. It was groundbreaking then in 1972 and still rocks the world even now.
It was the album that made Bowie a huge cult figure and eventually was the foundation for him becoming a rock legend. He reinvented himself many times - he was also Aladdin Sane (think about it hehe) , Major Tom (Space Oddity, Ashes To Ashes and Hallo Spaceboy) and the Thin White Duke amongst others. SO much great music for you to enjoy. You could certainly do worse than do a full album reaction to Ziggy Stardust! Its brilliant and mesmerising and a little bit life-altering! :)

  • @MrDiddyDee

Yes, the whole album and his Ziggy Stardust character was a concept that deserves a complete reaction. Bowie was at the forefront of the Glam Rock style, though his band took a little convincing with the clothes and makeup. They were a bunch of guys from Hull, working class, down to earth, tough Yorkshiremen, but after they saw the attention Bowie was getting from the girls it was..."Pass me that eyeliner!" Don't worry too much about all the lyrics making sense, he was being deliberately enigmatic most of the time. Bowie would use a technique of just writing down snippets and one liners, cutting them up , throwing them in the air, and then seeing what interesting combinations would come up. Some songs though did have a narrative, 'Five years' is a great apocalyptic song from the same album.

Bowie would've understood most things. David Gilmour is usually portrayed as more woke, but Bowie I feel could relate more to anyone and had more patience. Being promiscuous definitely would've helped, but I feel Bowie was just a very curious and understanding person.

Speaking of David Gilmour, there is a video of a great live rendition of "Comfortably Numb" in which Bowie joins him on stage to perform the song as an alternating duet.

Really good song but i would have skipped the story at the end, not that I'm offended, but because others will be offended or just turned off. If you guys are aiming to keep growing the channel, i would try to avoid unnecessary distractions that could turn off some fans :-) I still love the channel :-)

@@andyandalex hey I'm just a sub not a patron, and you guys have given me a lot of content to enjoy plus you haven't given me a hard time for plugging other channels here (although i do plug bidirectionally). So don't take what I say as any more than opinion of one guy, and a style choice. Back when I was doing public performance I made it a rule never to curse on the mic even though I curse profusely off stage ... My idea was to keep the focus on the music and to hit as wide an audience as possible :-)

Appreciate the viewership friend, and yeah I don’t think we think ‘enough’ about how to maximize how wide of an audience we are hitting and more so just try to do what we feel is entertaining, though in terms of longevity it makes sense to stay pretty PG I suppose, lol.

Listen, Ms. Andrea Dworkin (a.k.a. Coleen), I would venture to guess that for everyone watching this channel, rock 'n' roll music has been the soundtrack of our lives, and for many of us, teenage sexual exploits were a significant milestone in our coming of age, so I can appreciate A&A keeping the conversation real by candidly discussing how music and such milestones may have intersected in their personal lives. Alex theoretically could just as easily have told some sappy heartstring-tugging story about how a currently-deceased loved one had previously introduced him to a particular song/artist and now everytime said song/artist comes on the radio the experience is like a big "Hello!" from the afterlife. And such a story would have been perfectly fine and equally appropriate within the context of this channel. Perhaps all sensitive personal stories inspired by featured songs/artists would be better suited for an occasional BTS, bloopers or NSFW anthology video, but no one ever promised that this channel here, like the experience of life itself, would ever be a 100% sex-free zone. You already have your Pureflix subscription for that entertainment format. Also, unless Alex's mother is exceptionally naive and/or daft, I seriously doubt that the revelation of any of her son's teenage sexual hijinks will come as a terrible shock to her. By the way, I forgot to mention in my previous comment, as additional trivia for the edification of all the prudes who are in tizzy over Alex's BJ anecdote, that during the Ziggy Stardust period (thus entirely relevant to today's featured song), Bowie would sometimes drop to his knees in concert and mime performing fellatio on guitarist Mick Ronson. Now what would your poor mother think if she ever saw you watching such a "vulgar" act?
