    ,,Beautiful precious life''..........I think a lot of people don't get his motivation as a villain.He tried portraying himself as a king that comes from a great heritage,but that mask shattered when the gang discovered that he used to be a slave from Dahna.His conversation with Alphen during they're final battle also tells us a lot.,,All i remember is the lashes of whips,the masters who killed slaves for sport and the slaves who sacrificed they're compatriots so that they might live''.His time as a powerless slave obviously traumatized him and the only way for his to be sure that he doesn't return to that live is for him to be on top.He doesn't feel bad for the slaves that die for him,he just sees them as backstabing sharks.He was sooo pissed at the great spirit for trying to control him,so much so that he prioritized his defeat over Alphen,the guy who he sees as his rival and they guy who managed to strike him down.To him being a slave is worse then death.There is no ,,Beatiful precious life'' when you're a slave,so he decided to kill himself since he knew that he can't be on top and he will have to face justice for his actions(return to being a slave).Such a badass and tragic character.

      How would you add that?

    • @Neuviletteiudexofmemes
      @Neuviletteiudexofmemes 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@pn2294 Oh it could’ve been done easily. His backstory is so similarly to Alphen’s, and his motivation only needs to be ruling over others for him to be a perfect foil.
      You could have done it numerous ways, but I personally would have had his kingdom be one where the Renen’s were the ones enslaved and put to work. One where he had freed the Danan’s and genuinely was serving as a strong and forthright ruler in all other ways besides that, with the exception that the people were all so fanatically devoted to him that they didn’t think for themselves. It’s in line with his backstory and motivations and you’d just need to make him an obviously less unhinged character when he first appears, killing monsters en masse, I would plant dialogue implying he’s been doing this a lot, saving Danan’s from them. For the second, rather then attack immediately, I would have his attitude be more cordial, specifically towards Alphen, who he would have sought out for his liberation of the other realms, only for him to see Dohalim and presume the worst. From there he could kick the parties ass as per usual, but clearly be focused on the Renan’s and when Hootle flies up in front of Rinwell, have him actually back off and shift focus back to the others to continue fighting. When the Sovereign power awakens, have him look surprised and then confusedly ask “Then why…?” Before leaving, implying he concluded that Alphen has been through everything he has and can’t understand why he would fight alongside the Renan’s after seeing them at their worst and after everything they had done to him.
      The fight with him in his Kingdom would be way more interesting, because his people love him and consider him their savior, but he’s using Renan’s to collect Mana (this would work, obviously, because spoilers) and is treating them all like cattle out of revenge. When confronting him he could say he doesn’t intend to forgive the Renen’s for their crimes, and that he intends to extend his control to all the world, because before himself Dahna wasn’t exactly peaceful either, and it needs a strong perfect Sovereign to stay as peaceful as his Kingdom, and to ensure that another Renan invasion doesn’t ever happen again. The party would still disagree with and fight him, but it would be a lot more grey. Also his people would despise them after they’d won.
      From there not much needs to change, but I would actually have him slip in and succeed in subjugating the Great Spirit, actually using the stolen Renas Alma to control it. Have him free Shionne, removing it from her using his control, and have him state that he intends to use its power to become an all powerful undying Sovereign, that he will return the power to Dahna, and that now that he realizes Renen’s are Danan’s that we’re corrupted by their enemy, he will not blame them for being victims. Instead he will make this Great Spirit and the true Renan’s suffer for their crimes, and rule Dahna as a paradise under his sovereign rule forever. No war, no crime that goes unpunished, no corruption.
      Again, the party would still fight him, and now they aren’t doing it just to save their friend, but to champion the things they’ve learned through their journey. He would understand their perspective, but unable to agree with them, and be even a little regretful they had fight, but in the end…
      But that’s just one way you could do it. That would’ve felt more like a normal tales antagonist to me.

    • @haveagoodday7021
      @haveagoodday7021 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@pn2294 But most of the past Tales Antagonist’s, or the good ones, anyway, have been fairly distinct. Just because they were designed to be “fallen heroes” and Antivillain’s doesn’t mean they’re “the same”.
      And anyway by that logic, not being a tales villain would be “being the same as 95% of all other villains in fiction.”

  • @jacobgriffin613
    @jacobgriffin613 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's ironic, rinwell and vholran are most likely the last living danan mages, vholran's strength might foreshadow the level of power rinwell can also achieve as she learns and grows. I can see why danan mages were so feared and respected by both regular danans and renans alike. And while it's never specifically said, I think alphen is also a magic user, at least to some extent.

He loses in a duel against Alphen so his reaction is to take the Renas Alma, which wasn’t his to take since he lost the fight, and blow it and himself up. It’s like a kid losing a game and kicking the ball into the woods.

    • @chrisdaughen5257
      @chrisdaughen5257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He then calls Alphen "selfish" for trying to save both Shionne and the world and that it's a path to "corruption" and "betrayal". You want to rule over everyone with an iron-spiked fist! How is that better?!
      Is this trying to setup a sequel? He says he'll be waiting in the dark....

    This has been nagging me for a long time since I've played this game. at around 12:55, you see Vholran grin down at Shionne like he's planning to do something to her, and later even Law voices his concerns about it. You don't think he... did you know what right?

    • @kikamelo4760
      @kikamelo4760 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the main reason he kidnapped Shionne was to hurt Alphen. I mean, during their first fight she took a sword to the chest for him and Alphen's reaction made it pretty obvious Shionne was really important to him. More so if you consider the fact that Vholran views Alphen as an anemy that must be taken down no matter what. Also, I think it's safe to assume that Vohlran knew that he needed the power of the maiden to create the Renas Alma and that might have been another reason since he says "Did you really come all this way just so I could take you back over his dead body?" implying that he would take Shionne regarless of Alphen being dead or alive. I'm not sure about this argument though because he also knew about the room made to replace the maiden. Finally, I think what Law was refering to was the fact that Shionne was somewhat confident in her abilities but when they found her in the castle she was basically an empty shell, as if Vholran had brainwashed her like his subjects. I think Law was affraid that she might not come back and Vholran would make her do somethimg crazy like he did with the people he sent to take their own lives for him. Of course, I could be wrong but that's what I think.

  • @coast2coast-295

    I really wanted to like Vholran as a villain. But lord he's such a one dimensional mustache twirling villain. I don't need every game to have a misguided villain with relatable issues. I'm all for an evil villain who rides the bad boy train with no remorse. But dammit, they never make it cool anymore. When Vholran showed up as the 'Mysterious Swordsman', he was incredible. He was ruthless, mysterious, and badass. His voice was less 'Mwahaha' and he seemed to be here on a personal notion to test out someone else who is like him, that being Alphen. To fix this guy, I wanted to see more of him, to hear his origin before the literal last moments of the damn game. I wish Vholran kept his more hushed and menacing personality, and to hear that even he realizes that he's become something even worse than what once enslaved him. To have Alphen question why he'd do this, and Vholran know and admit that he's beyond redemption, and finds the world unfit for liberating. He'd be the perfect counter to Alphen, and could issue a challenge like 'If your conviction is stronger than my own, then perhaps this world is worth a second chance. But I'm the final test, if your ideals are carved away by my blade, then it just shows I was right in the end, and this world is better off under my own rule.' Basically, Vholran could have one last shred of humanity force him to seek out the other 'Sovereign' who is taking the morally right path. If only we fought this man three times before the big final confrontation in his domain. The 1st is fine, then say the second, we manage to get him to turn on his ice sword, only to get our asses kicked again. So for Vholran, his conviction is reaffirmed after wishing to see what his other path might have led him, which would then be coughing up blood on the damn ground before his might. Meanwhile, the party sees that this man is strong enough on his own to carry out his twisted ideal that the world is better off under his rule. This 'villain' was once just like them, and though he's a monster now, he truly does believe that his path is the only way to unify everything under an iron subjugation. After all, the party has seen that even their own kind can be just as bad as the damn slavers, if not worse when carrying a 300 year long vendetta.
    But then of course you'd beat him, and to see him take the loss and even find some measure of hope for the future in his final moments would have added so much complexity to him. An evil man born from tragic origins, but one who knows it and willingly chooses that path until someone manages to finally prove to him that the twisted world he hates can come together in the very end. Boom, a badass, evil, ruthless villain with a dash of humanity in the end.
    Instead we got a screaming baby who whined about how he can't rule everything wha wha wha UGH. Tales....you're better than this.

Why didn't he attack Alphen then? Etc. Ending was a bit underwhelming. Especially fighting the great spirit lol. Idk my expectations were too high after seeing all his bad ass scenes in the 1st half.
