I wonder if I could get the Nobel prize retroactively. I was in kindergarten, that was years and years ago. One day teacher gave us charcoal and white sheet of paper to draw what ever we like. Most of the kids draw crude looking figures, but I, being smarter than rest of the kids, I zig zagged with the chalk on the paper until I got solid black patch. Then I took tape, pasted it over the patch, lifted it and pasted it on Emily's forehead. She, being four years old, started to cry, so I quickly removed it. There it was, one atom thick Graphene. I tried to come her down explaining that the Graphene is something worth Nobel prize and told her about the properties mentioned in the video, including the fact that she can't be killed, because it will stop bullet and that it is harder than diamond. So, I think I was first one ever to discover the stuff at age of four.

Actually, it's one that's not listed. If you place hydrogen atoms in the latice (in the holes) it creates a magnetic field.

Just a couple points though, the first is one I'm not sure if you were trying to illustrate by showing ice with the comment, but water expands when cooled, and shrinks when heated as well. Makes me curious what the similarities, and differences are between graphene, and water are. Just because we as humans tend to jump into new cool things without looking at the long term costs, hydrocarbons are an example, I wonder what the long term costs are of producing this substance, will we be looking at another environmental disaster as a result of its use in 200 years? I doubt it is as simple as rubbing a pencil on a piece of paper to produce it. As well there is a social issue here, increasingly there is a divide between rich, and poor. Like most of the environmental initiatives, they are only available to the rich, which allows them to continue to do things that destroy the environment with their new gadget which isn't available to those who can't afford it.

your video proposes that graphene is the only substance that shrinks when heated and expands when cooled. I know one other substance that has this property, and EVERYONE knows of this substance, even if they don't realise it. This substance is the most dense at 4 degrees celsius (39.2 degrees fahrenheit) and expands the further down the temperature drops. It expands going up from this temperature as well, but 4 degrees is the most dense. The weird substance with this property? Water! If water didn't have this very specific property, it is unlikely life would have evolved in the manor it has on this planet.

"Which is why i cannot see the oceans rising if the pole caps melt." The concern is that of the ice melting off the land in the polar regions. I'm no expert, so I don't know if there's enough land ice or not, but take a look at this picture:
      www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/icebridge/multimedia/fall11/antarctica-US.html
      That's a lot of ice.
Sea also...er… I mean See also:
      creation.com/ice-sheet-age
Ice covers 10% of the land on Earth, mainly in the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets. The Greenland Ice Sheet has an average depth of 1,600 meters (5,300 feet) with a maximum depth of about 3,400 meters (11,300 feet). It covers an area of 1.8 million square kilometres (0.7 million square miles). The Antarctic Ice Sheet averages 1,900 metres (6,300 feet) deep with a maximum of about 4,200 metres (14,000 feet) over an area of 13.9 million square kilometres (5.4 million square miles).
      EDIT:
      I just found this:

The article states that water is densest at 39.2 degrees. So, if water is 33 degrees, it will shrink as its temperature rises to 39.2.

    • @daviestj
      @daviestj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

We are not told at what temperature graphene is at its most dense. I expect that if graphene is heated beyond that temperature, it will expand again, possibly as part of a reaction that would burn it to cinders.

I took a clean piece of paper. Put plain Cheerios on it and crunched them to almost dust suze with the bottom of a coffee cup. I then took a magnet and pushed it into the pile of Cheerios crumbs a few times. I then tapped the magnet over a separate piece of paper and some Cheerios dust fell onto the paper. I placed the magnet underneath the paper on the area of the Cheerios dust and moved the magnet around. The dust didn't move but bits if black particles moved and clung together. It was odd. I was told the black bits are graphene.

Yeah, absolutely. After watching this impressive video,I remembered my childhood days. I am using a ladder for painting walls, clearing ceiling etc.,then I asked a question to my mother-father"when scientists construct a ladder to reach on Moon,Mars,Jupiter etc"? Then my parents just wondering for a curious question and answered "may be in 22nd century".
Other most common question is about World water crisis. In draught situations many humans, animals, plants died due to extremely lack of water. Then I asked "why not human beings clean an ocean water & use for daily purposes"? Then my parents answered "may be in 21st century".
Today,29/01/2020 after watching this video, I am feeling so glad. Really a great salute to U.S.scientists and their achievements. Many countries already started cleaning ocean water to solve world water crisis permanently. Other important thing, a space elevator, space batteries also comes true in coming days successfully. God bless.
A very unique quality "it's expanding when cooled & shrinking when heated".
