I can honestly say I would 100% be interested in a vise kit offering. I am just starting to learn how to use machine tools and make things in that manner, and the heart of that skill set is a good vise. I have more vises than I need now but the ability to make my own vise that is part of that is probably the coolest idea I can think of. To be the one to have made the tool that gets used everyday in the pursuit of learning and making other things is beyond cool. Pencil me in for 2 now. I don’t really care how much they would cost.
.my grandad had a foundry here in the UK. The melting shop wasnt clean with all the black sand but the machine shop was. It takes incredible skill to produce these castings i salute your skills
Some of my favorites are clean freaks, and some of my favorites are complete slobs who hopelessly abuse their tools. Do it your way Clarke, the end product is all that matters, and you do quality.
Albert Einstein once said that, a clean shop is the sign of a sick mind...12:49....NICE PLAQUE... So just step OVER those WHINER Horse Apples and carry on, Sir. You're getting product out is of higher priority than sweeping cobwebs off the ceiling 12:04 you keep on creating Quality Clark that's what you're here for...
Clark, Here in the UK hobby machinists like myself and model steam enthusiast have a difficult time sourcing small cast iron sections. Likely the same applies in the US of A. It occurred to me that you could when moulding up use square or round sections in the gating which would deliver a second product for no effort. Maybe something worth your consideration. Thanks for another interesting video.
I know what you mean about going out in the work area and becoming overwhelmed by the disorganization. My garage is a total hell hole. Every time I go in the garage , I look at the mess and say " Where do I start " and then wind up turning around and walking away.
Great Job. I like that you do it your way. As for organizing, remember “One bite at a time” will git’er done. I really like the vise idea. I hope it all comes together.
Strong magnets - ask around some computer friends, and score some disk drives (people are throwing them out) - each 3 1/2 inch drive has two very strong magnets, if you are willing to open the drive (angle grinder through the screws works if you don't have small torx drivers).
I am one of those guys who chase organization and efficiency in all i do (because i enjoy it). I hate clutter, and the best way to fix it is to be organized. Make routines for the shop, make rules for your self, and make rules for the equipment. Its a exercise in self control. To resist the urge to go straight home after a tiresome day, and instead spend an extra 5-10 mins putting stuff back. And also make time for small breaks during the day for putting stuff back and cleaning up. I fail at those rules frequently, but then i pay the price the next day. And i regret it. My aim is that unless i am currently in a process that require tool X, then that tool should be in its given place on the wall, drawer or shelf.
Lads, to get a glaze finish and strip out the pattern the use of graphite is a great help. The graphite when casting causes a film of gas which stops the molten cast iron going into the sand and giving a rough finish thus reducing fettling time. I think with the basic equipment your working with your doing great.
Clarke, you're doing a great job! We have 2 types of peeps in this here Merica: spectators and participators. We are the Do-ers and most just watch. That mold work is no easy gig, 99.99999999999% of peeps would never even try. 👍
Thanks for sharing a great video Clarke. Your humour is spot on and that plaque is a good one. I'm going to make a certified well organized garage and put it on the wall so my wife cannot complain about the organized chaos.
Years ago, when the kid was in scouts, the troop met in an aviation service shop. It was cleaner than some ERs. Yes, you could smell oil and solvents. OTOH, every surface was spotless.
I would be interested in one of your vises even if its made in the other foundry - I assume you are thinking of a metal working type bench vise? Will you consider making a woodworking type vise also?
Clarke, I'm figuratively sitting on top of my mountain. Here is my view. You just keep doing you. If the world doesn't like it, they aren't paying you enough anyway. I like your videos and you get no complaints or smart-ass comments from me. There is a very low probability that I could get a vice kit from you. But I like the idea. dave
I already mentioned that I am very interested in the new square, and I would be really interested to hear more about the vise you have planned. Not too thrilled to hear "gray iron, not ductile iron". That might be a showstopper for me. Gray iron pretty much takes their value away for me. I hope you stick with ductile.
I for one would love to have a Windy Hill Foundry Vice. Kit form sounds great.

That “organized shop” award needs to be cast. 😂 Good show Clark. Thx
Hi Clark, don't let the fuckwiths put you down, you do you and that is it.

It's been said that a clean desk is the surest sign of incompetence. A clean shop should be taken likewise.
Clark, I for one don't mind the fan, you live in the south, its summer, do what you need to to stay cool.
Some of my favorites are clean freaks, and some of my favorites are complete slobs who hopelessly abuse their tools. Do it your way Clarke, the end product is all that matters, and you do quality.
A lot of self proclaimed experts in comment sections everywhere. Few actually are. You do you, Clark. It's working well.
For those who may not know, Clarke's "little small fan" is about 5 feet in diameter. :)
Nice job, Clark. Wish I could make it to the bash. Y'all have fun.
Clark, I love your sense of humor, sublime and hilarious. Great video!

Looking forward to seeing and chatting with you again in a couple of week at the Bash.

I know that feeling😃, I can just look at my garage... It's a mess but some day it will be organized..
Amazing amount of work you crank out Clarke!!!
Good to hear you have lots of business rolling in.
Thanks Clark.....
Old Shoe🇺🇸
Great Job.

"When I heat it for stress relief it's going to look entirely different".
I was thinking that you might show that.
Hi Clark.. Take **** from any nitpickers.. 😊😎😎
I love the Bash Pro Shop sign!
Thanks for the video Clark. Your video make my weekend.
Nice Sign well done 👍

Just amazing work. Massive thumbs up.

Steve Watkins shop would have a plaque saying “This shop is well organized. What you’re looking at is Don’s fault.”
@@ellieprice363 That makes a lot of sense lol.
We all know how hard your work is. Never mind those comments which lack understanding.
Years ago, when the kid was in scouts, the troop met in an aviation service shop. It was cleaner than some ERs. Yes, you could smell oil and solvents. OTOH, every surface was spotless.
Great work as always if it was easy everyone would be doing it, the bar z sign looks fantastic thanks
I have always been told an organized shop is an efficient shop. lol
Thanks for sharing
I would like to see what the vise will look like
I'd be interested in a vice! I'm gonna start saving up.
Hi Clark, ever thought about casting and selling rough unfinished lathe backplates of several sizes.
I would be interested in one of your vises even if its made in the other foundry - I assume you are thinking of a metal working type bench vise? Will you consider making a woodworking type vise also?
Hi from Nacogdoches, Texas. Nice work. Enjoy your videos.
I would be so proud to use my windy hill foundry vice in the future. 😎✌️
You should make wrought iron fence panels. Hard to get anything nowadays
I have a sign in my messy shop that says. Organized people are just too lazy to look for something.
I went back and looked at the video of the broken casting and it sure looked like it was already cracked or broken right where it broke again.
I think AVE has some videos on bein "well organized".

I guess its going to be dependent on the price of the vice. However if you are selling a vise, I might be interested...
I would not worry about the fan noise it's a shop and better than loud music
All i need is another vice. Yep, sign me up. or where do i sign?
Hey Clarke,, Where did you order that Plaque from????? I need to order me one! ( Leaving Now :) )
Im curious why not use a match plate for those greenhouse pieces?
Dutctabe iron is more desirable, go for them.
A good affordable vice not made in China would be nice to have
Your greensand looks coarser, did you change something? Maybe a different camera?
Clark you are doing fine. The quarterback comments come from people that probably are not doing what you are doing.
I read an interesting take on negative comments: They serve no purpose other than to bolster the ego of the commenter.
WEL SAID, THEY NEED A NEW TAMPX... 11:40
Don't let the idiots get to you! 👍👍
I agree completely we have enough drama in the sand casting process then we don't need. 11:44
Good enough for who it's for?
Better foundry drama then baby momma drama.
Actually we Don't need any more drama than sand-casting creates by ITS SELF... 11:14 WTG Clark, step over the few HORSE-APPLE WHINERS, Please...
Lookin good! Give dollar a scratch for me. Thanks.
Just amazing work. Massive thumbs up.
