I went to Tractor Supply to pick up a salt lick for deer in my area, the person working there showed me the ‘deer’ salt area. They wanted $25 for a block of the white salt without minerals and $40 for the green mineral salt. I thought that was ridiculous. So I said where do you keep the salt for goats and cattle. The same salt without the pretty pictures of deer on it was $13. Believe me, the deer could care less how it is packaged.

No, it is grammatically incorrect for the ideal it is intended to convey. The intended ideal of the saying is to imply that one does not care at all. Saying "I COULD care less" clearly implies that one DOES, in fact, care to some degree. Where as saying "I COULDN'T care less" clearly staes that one DOES NOT care at all.
Only one of those statements makes sense regarding an implicit statement between the lines.

I'm an older Hunter 62 I had this thought over 25 years ago I decided to try the equine redblock that promotes hoof growth in horses my reasoning was if it promotes hoof growth in horses why not antler growth in Deer within 3 years I was seeing major antler growth in my bucks far better than what I had seen in the past.I have holes at these mineral sights that are 2ft. deep and up to 6ft dia. I only put mineral out every other season now since when it rains alot of mineral goes straight into the ground.

I keep a 50 pound white salt block, a couple trophy rocks, and the black deer cain blocks out year round down in my creek bottom. The deer hit them all pretty much even. I’ve found the deer actually prefer eating the dirt that the blocks erode into rather than licking the actual blocks. I used this observation and started buying bags of rock salt instead of the blocks and pouring it on a cleaned off portion of ground and then using a garden rake I mix the rock salt into the dirt pretty good. I’ve done this now for a couple years and the location that I’ve done this on the deer have pawed and ate away at the dirt to the point that they have a hole in the ground big enough to park an atv in. So if you’re looking for the best option, in my experience it is the rock salt.

When setting up a trail camera you have 2 have 2 and one at normal and the other up 10-15 feet in the tree aiming to the first camera... A great way to do that is if you're camera has a thread at the bottom get a bolt that will fit it and get a hinge that is about 6" long and comes to a point because at the tip of the one side of the hinge you bolt on your camera and the other side of the hinge you secure it to a tree and the reason for all this is so now you can aim your camera any angle you want and to hold the angle that you need you can use wire or string... And having it that high no one can take it or may not no it there and you can find out who or what is happening... The effort is well worth it when someone is stealing from you...

  • @George-ro6bw
    @George-ro6bw ปีที่แล้ว +4

Like humans, deer like salt. Is your goal just want to attract deer or do you want to do something that is beneficial for deer? There is a difference between using minerals and just plain salt. If you do want to supplement the minerals deer get from food, you should put the minerals out in January when the does are pregnant and buck are recovering from the rut. By the end of August deer will be less likely to visit mineral sites. The does are finished nursing and the bucks antlers are finished growing. Also if what you are buying has a picture of a deer on the package, the price will be much higher even if it is plan salt. Funny how much stores stock minerals prior to hunting season rather than when it best for deer. I’ve had all kind of animals come to my mineral sites including birds. Need a camera to watch the camera.
    Nice experiment though.

I've kept livestock mineral blocks out for the deer here at the house for years. I don't hunt them and just keep it out there to help them out. Just noticed yesterday that they've wiped out the last one I put out. Something that surprised me is the number of birds that hit ground where the block sits, picking up the salt and minerals from the soil around it. All kinds of birds and I have many. Doves seem to hit it as hard or harder than many of the others do. I'm sure there's other animals that make use of it also.
Not opposed to hunting in the least but I just don't do any anymore. But I do love having the critters around doing there thing and not as pets.

So, if you're putting out salt blocks in PA, unless you physically excavate the ground the salt block is on, you can get nailed for "baiting". Trust me I know. I used to live in PA and belonged to a hunting lease. Others in the lease had put out several mineral/salt blocks in the spring. Then removed them a month prior to the opening of archery season (as the game laws state), yet I still got cited for hunting over "bait". I told the game warden I was hunting that area due to the apple trees in the area, and several scrapes, and the year before I shot a nice 8 point out of the same tree stand. He didn't care about any of it!! He told me that unless I "excavated" the dirt around the salt/mineral block, that he could have the soil tested and prove there was still salt "residue" in the ground. I went to Harrisburg to a hearing at the game commission headquarters, I drew a plat of the area I was hunting (as I'm a land surveyor) to show the location of trails, apple trees, and scrapes in relation to my tree stand location. IT DIDN"T MATTER!!! I was found guilty and lost my hunting privileges for a year!! It was the longest year of my life without being able to hunt. The game warden also said that "technically" he could bust anyone hunting within a mile of a former salt/mineral block location, stating that this trail leads to that trail which leads to that trail. It was TOTAL BULLSHIT!!! He was out to bust anyone on the lease because he lived a few miles away and when the timber company leased the property he was to cheap to join the lease!!! Therefore he wasn't able to hunt it anymore, and was just looking be be a DICK and bust anyone and everyone he could that belonged to the hunting lease.
It ruined my 30th birthday!! It was 26 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Got to love PA game commission!!!

We were using some granular deer salt that came in like a 15 lb bucket for $20, now I can make 4 licks for that price. The cool thing I have noticed, even more than a pile of corn, it holds the deer in one place. It takes one year for them to start on the big ones. If you left it out there, then the following spring they would hit it hard. At least that's what they do on my property. It will stit there and look just like when you put it out then the next year in turkey season I noticed they had killed it.

I’ve got a Apple and a white one out now and they seem to go for both I had a white one out years ago and after it dissolved the deer would come and dig a big hole where it use to be. Funny thing happened a couple of nights ago the deer were coming up every night and licking the block a rabbit came out and sit on the block I put a caption under the picture “ Those stinking deer not gonna eat up my apple block I’ll sit here all night” .

I’ve tried lucky buck and wild game innovation apple blocks and cattle blocks. This year is the first year that I tried trophy rock and by far, it is the clear winner that my deer herd love. I have bought 2 bags of the granules of trophy rock and 2 trophy rock and I have had a camera out on this mineral sight since February. My deer herd has really torn this mineral sight up by digging a 12 to 15 inches wide whole, 1 foot deep in the ground, so yeah, I will continue buying trophy rock, no matter what it cost. Not spending my hard earned money on the smother minerals if they don’t work

I loved the video. I live in Upstate NY and we have so many poachers, folks who give "no f*cks" about private property or conservation laws. Some I have busted on my land who were very successful wealthy people and some people who didn't have a dime to their name. Just bad people. Oh, in NY state it is illegal to put up salt licks, there is a warning on packaging, I am putting one up and mixing it up with soil, I don't hunt just like deer.

I have used.plain salt for past two years. Heard iodine not good for them. Good results. DIgging holes in grond after it has rained. Thought of trying mineral salt this year. I generally put it on trails already being used near water. Think it helps them be healthier. Probably other animals as well.

    • @jonstafford9244

2nd that. I use both the crushed trophy rock and trace mineral blocks on my western U.P. hunting property. The crushed trophy rock is about 1/2 the price of large rock and allows me to easily split at two locations. Any salt product will attract deer during spring & summer. Natural minerals in trophy rock may help in antler growth and a boost for mom & newborn fawns.

We use Rocksalt mixed with molasses an vanilla at our Camp in the UP of Michigan! Nice thing about cell cams is by the time they notice camera you have a picture of them! Most people steel them because they got caught on private land? On public usualy because they are Fkn low life theifs.

A couple years ago I put out two trail cameras on my hunting property. One camera got stolen but the other camera got the subject on video. I called DNR on the person because he was spot lighting my deer 🦌. Pisses me to no end someone stealing and poaching on my private land. This is the reason I will not lease out or let anyone hunt on my land but family. It’s very sad.
