    Lovely! When I saw the "blue print" I thought that was me finished. I can never work out what's what and where to put it. You did a first class job of explaining every thing in detail, how it fits and where. Thank you. I'm away to my scrap pile and pull out what I need. By the time Tuesday rolls round I will be sitting at my bench having caught up with you and waiting for instalment 2. Lovely, excellent, smashing.

    Hoping to do this one...thanks for the series. They make a nice bi-plane model as well.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope you do make this one Wade. It's a fun model and with this tutorial, there are no questions as to how to go about making the pieces. I've made the bi-plane (I believe it was a Fokker II) and it was a wonderful model to make. The plans for that one are a little older but there were still fun. The most difficult part of the bi-plane was drilling the holes for the landing gear. Either way, thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave the comment. I appreciate it.

    • @wadesaunders583

      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wadesaunders583 I did not and I think that is where my problems started. I would suggest drilling the holes while it is still able to be say squarely on a drill press for drilling and then shape the body afterwards. I hope this helps Wade. Good luck on your build.

    Oh yah! This is going to be a great series! Except for balsa free-flight and u-control planes, I've never built a wooden model like the type you make. And that was way back in grade school and high school. But I do still want to design and build a pond boat. The wooden sailing ship models that kids and adults used to sail in ponds and urban cement/stone ponds in the early 1900's. Well the snow is on the ground for good here in northern NY, so I have all winter lol. What a great start for this project. Take care Ken!

      I hope you do make those boats Michael. I'd love to see them if you get them finished. Thanks for the kind words on the show and for tuning in this week. Good luck with the snow. I hate snow.

      @@acutabove_woodworkings LOL! I hate snow too! If you look on ebay, Ken, you can get an idea what those wooden yachts look like. I was thinking of cutting them on the scroll saw like you would a bowl. I just have to decide on how many layers and their thickness so I can know the angle of the cuts. Take care!

      @@acutabove_woodworkings Thank you for your kindness. I wanted to ask why you use yellow glue instead of CA or superglue? I'm not a super glue person, but I was wondering if you wanted to speed up the drying process??? Thanks again.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samspade4634 I'm not a fan of CA glue at the best of times and especially for these models. CA glue does a great job at temporary repair or adhesion and it is great when used as a finish for turned items like pens or razor handles but in a model build, it just causes problems. In order to get enough CA on the parts to allow good adhesion and penetration, the squeeze out that it generates causes an ugly mess that will no longer take a finish. Yellow woodworker's glue penetrates the surface very easily and sets a lot faster than you would think. Usually, a part will set within 15 minutes or less and the squeeze out that is generated is easily cleaned up using water and a cotton swab allowing a finish to be applied perfectly after a light sanding. CA glue? Not so much. While some model builders on TH-cam use CA glue exclusively and make it look like the miracle product of the woodworking world, they are not telling you the whole story and from personal experience, I can say that it is the glue to avoid when it comes to woodworking. I hope this helps.

    • @samspade4634
      @samspade4634 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@acutabove_woodworkings Very, very well explained. I understand and actually agree with your "experience" with CA glue. If it didn't run everywhere, the lid wasn't put on correctly (by me) and before you know it, I am out of glue. Thanks so much for your help.

    Great video highlighting a great company! The plans from Toys and Joys are great. I am currently building their articulating loader. I really like the fact that you stressed being safe. It is easy to get into trouble making some of the small parts theses models require. I totally agree that it is a good idea to spend some extra time sitting and thinking about how you want to make a specific part and the steps required! Great job as always Kenny 🤠

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad that you liked it Randy. I've many countless models from this companies plans. I usually modify them to make them my own and add my own little touches and that's part of the fun for me as well. I have that same pattern that you are making. I haven't made it yet, but I will. I usually get ahead of the game with filming and then take a break from the show and make a model. It's a good system that works for me. LOL. Thanks for tuning in. I hope you enjoy the series.

    I just finished watching the 7 video's for this truck, absolutly inspiring. I like that you make ALL the pieces rather than purchasing ready made ones. The level of detal and explanation to great. Have you ever used CA glue? Would it work for this truck?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words on the series Brian. I'm not a big fan of using CA glue in my model builds. It just causes too many problems for me. Squeeze out is hard to clean up, avoiding squeeze out by using less glue doesn't always give enough adhesion, using accelerator spray to get an instant bond doesn't allow pieces to be shifted etc. I much prefer the flexibility of good old fashioned wood glue. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in.

    I can’t wait to see more, that looked awesome sitting on your bench in the video you posted on Friday. I love that style those old cars and trucks had, especially the 20’s 30’s and 40’s. Did you spend a lot of time with a jointer and planer to prep the wood for this project?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't spend much time at the jointer at all Randy. I make a lot of these models from scrap and off cuts. If I need larger pieces, like when I am making the tires, I will only mill what I need as I don't like having extra boards lying around the wood rack. I'd rather keep it in its rough cut form to prevent any warping. I hope you enjoy the series sir. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
