    Thanks Aaron ! Wish I lived close so I can come pick out what I need in person lol. Def gonna shop the website. May call and chat with ya on some things . Thanks again! A more in depth video would be awesome on the different leathers , colors , uses etc if you ever want another video idea 😊. I’m just starting up and mainly shooting to make knife sheaths right now but want to eventually expand . Love wet fitting to each knife too. There is a lack in good leather sheaths that are wet fitted availability. I’m mostly interested in the crazy horse and English bridle , possibly bison although I think it might be too pliable , I have a journel cover in bison and it doesn’t retain shape well.

    Dear Sir, most if not all saddlery leather would have been veg tanned and still is however heavy chrome tanned hides could be used. I am only familiar with the U K market, Walsall was and still is to a small degree the centre of the saddlery industry in the UK. I did sell chrome tanned leather to a race horse saddle maker. There is way too much for a reply on TH-cam, if I could have your e-mail and/or your phone number I can explain more. Some folk use olive oil, or beats foot but this can darken the leather and make it feel wet. All the best, Chris

    Is there any tanning process to make it waterproof but don't wear out over time? I know I can wax it to make it waterproof, but Tanner Leatherstein's video said that the highest waterproof comes from the tanning itself.
    I've searched online and I can only found La Bretagna's Hydro repel leather, they said that the waterproof would remain in the crust even after long time of uses. But they only said it is veg tan, and I know that veg tan would soak in water pretty fast.

    • @makersleathersupply1220

      Applying light coats instead of heavy ones will help with that... but but consistency is most important. If the weave marks aren't filled with a coating it should still hold antique.

    • @makersleathersupply1220

    • @Staren01
      @Staren01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Veg kidskin exists. You will see it available from time to time, but it's kind of an odd leather. It would be good if you want to dye your own color, but because it's so thin it's not great for getting a good stamp impression or doing swivel knife work. The only other use case that comes to mind is if you want natural veg pocket pieces to age similarly to a natural veg wallet back.
