It's the location that's catching your bias. As the channel has said he's never seen any white shark, eat anything in this location. They go straight up to a known food source, stingrays, in this area and still won't feed.. If they're actively foraging, however, they'll actively hunt, stalk and kill humans.

    • @PinkCampfire

They don't actively hunt, stalk out attack humans as a food source. We are not on the menu for any shark. Sharks don't like eating humans. Humans do not have enough body fat to be attractive as food to sharks. Most shark "attacks" really from sharks taking a bite to determine whether or not we are edible. Unfortunately, many of these bites can be fatal. There are generally less that 100 shark "attacks" power year WORLD WIDE. Play the lotto.. Your chances are better than getting but by a shark. Oh and stop fear mongering

maybe the odds can calm your nerves, too!
sharks attack around 72 people annually, 10 of whom die from their injuries. that's not in the US...that's WORLDWIDE! considering the amount of people who swim in the ocean and visit beaches daily around the globe, your chances of being attacked by a shark are astronomically low.
Compare the deaths by sharks (10/year) to these animals (number/year):
      Mosquitoes: 750K
      Snakes: 100k
      Dogs: 35k
Snails: 20k (that's right, snails kill 2000x as many people per year as sharks)
      Crocs: 1k
      Hippos: 500

      Lions: 22

Skilled artist sharing drone caught experiences with So Cal sharks. I spent 20 years at the Malibu pier, gazing over the water, and I never saw even a single shark. And 10 years along the Leo Carillo Beach in the water, and again, never saw what this poster gathered and shared. Very grateful.

On one hand people say "you're more likely to die in a car crash than by a shark attack"
Often the counter response is "yea but you are in cars every day, you very rarely encounter sharks"
This footage really is incredible, and shows how often (and how many) people actually do encounter sharks, and seemingly without even being aware of it. It really highlights how complex these animals and their behaviors are, and how they're not simple robots that only exist to feed. The only reason we don't know more about them than what we do, is because they're so difficult to observe both in terms of quantity and quality. Yet your footage appears to do a great deal of both.
Absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see more from you.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Jon Hesson The point is not really to say sharks are less dangerous than cars - or equally dangerous. It's simply to note that all the stereotypes are based in media-fueled fear, not actual logic and education. The vastly most important thing to understand in order to avoid potential attacks, is to know how to behave around sharks, and understand their typical behavior and patterns too. Behavioral patterns are so important with any animal. But every media outlet typically depict them as something they are not - even "credible" sources like NatGeo, which despite being generally quite objective, still benefit massively from fear-mongering aspect of "sharkphobia".
The potential danger around sharks is very real, but the degree of that danger, and the degree to which we can (and often unknowingly do) avoid it is even bigger.

Absolutely fascinating short documentary. Love the way you raise questions without trying to claiming to have the answers for the often mysterious observations you made. Really well done. And it all supports what I have learned about sharks in the the last ...more than 20 years. Continue the great work ...ocean greetings, Peter

Thank you for some great footage and intelligent narration! This is truly rare as most other similar channels do not focus on the truth of how these animals behave. I was lucky enough to swim in water‘s off La Jolla and also off Kauai and encounter sharks. They were never aggressive towards me, in fact they were quite scared and bolted any time I attempted to approach.

Love this video! I've seen hundreds of sharks over the past 6 years while paddle boarding North San Diego County. Have gotten used to the fact that they're always around and thru personal observation and videos like yours, have grown to love & respect these wonderful animals. I'm hoping you'll be lucky enough to capture one breaching - as it's pretty cool to see a 400+ lb fish in the air! Or when a sea lion turns the tables & chases after them (seen a few times). Keep up the great work! You ARE changing the narrative.

Nothing is learned through these videos anymore than if I showed you a video of a serial killer taking a dump. To deduce these sharks are harmless because they are not eating people 24/7 is a triumph of well cultivated stupidity over common sense.

I was born and raised here in CA and it's an incredibly beautiful and diverse state. I've lived in Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina, but I always come back home to California. It's unmatched. Sure, we have our problems, but doesn't everywhere? There's nowhere else I'd rather be. Check out the "California Through My Lens" channel here on TH-cam. I just found it recently and it's like a love letter to CA. Cheers!

  • @StevenKeery

Fascinating! I would never have thought there would be so many shark encounters, with the sharks showing such indifference. It seems really strange. Do you think they have become innured to the presence of swimmers or surfers? Are they giving off a different scent in the water, to the shark's normal food?
The scenes of the Sharks in close proximity to Rays without attacking them would seem to indicate they only hunt or attack when hungry.
So many unanswered questions with this footage.
It does seem as though you have found a great way to study shark interactions in safety.
    Great footage, thanks for uploading.

Hi, I unplaned swam with sharks 3 years ago at Miami Beach, and it was a game-changing, lifetime experience.
I am not saying that I would intentionally go again, but their behavior taught me - I am pretty sure they are not aggressive towards humans under normal conditions. They are everywhere in the ocean, it's their environment, and we are the "intruders" there, not them. We should behave more respectfully and mainly silently.

Your passion for documenting the movement of these sharks and their interaction with humans and other sealife is absolutely nothing short of incredible. I love the movie Jaws. And the book by Peter Benchley. Which unintentionally created such strong feelings of fear and mistrust of sharks. So your channel helps to demystify those fears. As a scuba diver im always cognisant of the fact that us humans are entering their territory as guests. Obv shark attacks, especially fatal ones are horrendous but they are rare. Your drone footage and commentary are a fabulous learning tool for all ocean users. As u very much shift the narrative of sharks, especially great whites, as being non stop hunting killers no matter the circumstance. Your footage proves thats just not realistic. So thankyou x

I had always believed that the larger sharks at and over 10 feet, were transitioning to adulthood and developing their taste for mammals in their diet and therefore they were becoming more unpredictable. This channel is excellent, thank you
