those boards require such a different riding style than today. They would still be fun if you get a chance to ride them do it! Inexperienced riders would probably complain about less control but more experienced rider (20+) years just accept it as just merely adapting to the dynamics of the board mechanics... I remember when you had to take a test with the ski patrol and they gave you a laminated pass to show that you were qualified to ride on the mountain.
and all of us who took the next step and threw out our bindings gotta thank burton for making the junkyard and other snowskates. most us rode those for a while, i still have mine, but i haven't had bindings for ten years, and i never ever will again. no need. we can do whatever we want. without the straps!
@First On Board Please explain to me how you can print your name all over this footage like some sort of copyright, when your organisation looks like it was established in 2010...??? R.I.P. Jake. B. Carpenter.💯🤙
me and my friends got our first boards in around 1990. it came pretty fast to the area and really took off. the ski resort went from punching holes in your pass for jumping to building huge terrain parks lol. i remember having to go to the owner's office to get "talked to" about safety lol. he did have good points about people getting hurt and suing and resorts going out of business. i feel so lucky to have experienced those times. my life would have really sucked during the winter without it! its been years since i hit the slopes and one of my biggest regrets. i'll be back on soon enough!
Sherman P actually pioneered the lifestyle not Simms and Burton. Snowboarding was born from skiing ya'll. Cant we all just get along? I ski and board, love both.
Sherman P made a wonderful toy to take to the local hill. He lacked the vision to think snufers could actually be taken seriously as SKIING. People on the ski mountains back in the beginning used to get angry at us snowboarders. I worked at a ski resort and the other ski instructors used to make fun of me. THis old hag that was the manager of the ski school used to look at me at the line up on sat morning at 7:30am with her crotchety smoke rusted voice.."YOU AND THAT DAMN BOARD!!!!" She was pissed that I wasnt available to teach skiing becasue the ski school was always crowded with weekend tourists... My point is this: TO HAVE THE VISION FOR SNOWBOARDING WHEN NO ONE WAS INTERESTED. NO ONE GAVE TO SHITS AND THOUGHT IT WAS A FAD LIKE THE HULA HOOP...JAKE C perservered and promoted something he truly believed in 1000000% He Had the vision to believe in the kids would latch on to it and figure it out! AND WE DID!!!! He was the one that went around the country and gave demos to all the ski resorts and got them to open the mountain to snowboarders.. Tom Simms did some in the WEST but was not a EVANGELICAL as Jake. He is really the reason the sport exploded in the late 80s early 90s.
I will give you this, Jake was a good promoter. He might have even gotten the sport to catch on faster. He was far behind the curve back in the beginning with all of the innovations. He gets way too much credit.
RIP, Jake!
