Three years after the original game, Cygames released a sequel - Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. It's a reimagination and an update to all the existing systems with a goal to provide a complete package. I'm definitely playing, love these characters, I mained Yuel/Vira in the original, but this time I'm interested in trying Nier, never really attempted to main a puppet character, so will see if I go back to original mains, lol, also great review!

@@tzera_rhuon rollback cannot handle people across the fucking universe sorry to say. You will inevitably have lag if you play from people across the globe. There is a reason why servers still exist
@@tzera_rhuonjust like fel said. There's nothing you can do if they're on the other side of the planet. Just think about it. This is a game of reactions and timing (among other things). The time it takes your button press to go from one side of the planet to the other is already impressive.
But it also has to compete with other technical issues. When you connect with someone it's not like you're connecting one cable to eachother. That information goes through many possible points of failure. And trust me, through experience I know your ISP can be ruining your gameplay.
One time they were routing my data through another country before the endpoint.
I experimented playing against US players from the Philippines
200+ ping and didn't encounter any lag for the couple if matches I played (wired)
ARC never does costumes because it's too tough to implement in their games. However, Cygames said during evo they worked with ARC and found a way to implement them and now we will be getting tons in an ARC game, starting with Narmaya's amazing black butterfly.
Costumes is a huge part of GBF and was a massive issue for people in GBVS. It also helps freshen things up and bring people back (look at all the complaints for SF6 taking too long for costumes). Cygames took in so much feedback from Beta 1 and it's crazy how much was changed in so little time to beta 2. All this coupled with Crossplay, rollback ( I personally had no issues during both betas and connection was like SF6) and having all important modes in f2p will help the game.
Well, no. It's starting with Gran and Djeeta's Eternal skin and Seigfried's full armor skin.

@@KidArkx Well no Seigfried is just a helmet which is simple like weapon skins. Gran and Djeeta's were built for and included in base game. Narmaya's is the first of many costumes that will be continually added post launch.
Arc has done 1-2 costumes before but that's it because it took way too much effort. Narmay's BP skin is just the start of BP skins and post launch support. If you really want to get so semantic heavy then no, Metera and Zeta were the first with their uncensored alt skins.

@kollie79 Ya they said at EVO we will be getting costumes this time after they found a way to implement them. Then in the livestream where they announced Narmaya as the first they said many more to come.
As a more experienced player in general, I know the original Granblue was very much designed to be a simpler game and it was something that worried me about the.
All I can say is wow. The depth of rising is actually insane, but more than that it’s what fighting games should be in regards to new players.
The game isn’t dumbed down; if anything it’s got more complex but the training mode is the best I’ve seen for beginners and that includes street fighter 6.
It’s got a great general tutorial that even I enjoyed going through it’s got character specific tutorials, character specific combos you can try in training mode. Playing for 10 minutes and it had already shown me a frame trap, so it’s not just for total new players it makes the experience of learning a whole lot easier at every level.
It’s also just the little things, there’s a fighting game glossary in there, it even explains numpad notation, there’s no numpad notation in the game but the devs know played are going to ask others about combo and be told oh yeah it’s 2m > 2h > 214H and have no idea.
It’s just a very polished product. My final point is that this is an anime game for street fighter players, it’s a lot more grounded than guilty gear or under night.

Rollback was great fot me during the 2nd beta. Also just a note you can spot dodge raging strike and its been slowed down since beta 1. Also you take more damage when you have 1 or 0 bravery points left. Adding more to resource management, you cant just spam it. I loving it. Cant wait for full release

I think Ultimate Skills is such a good mechanic to add since it gives more ways to use meter and means characters aren’t completely restricted by cooldowns. It makes matches more tense and chaotic while still keeping the game grounded and neutral-based.

3v3 to am not even a good fighting gamer kinda guy but learning the basics with gran is easy to master if there’s ever a fighting game for beginners without the scare of not knowing anything this is the game
I personally think along Drive system and drive impact (from SF6), this is one of my favourite universal system in FG. the raging strike can be avoided by not passively holding back and attacking, or reacting with dodge. EVEN THEN, they still give you one more CHOICE when getting hit by sacrificing 2 points. Not only does it award defensively play, it still give you one more chance to make up for the mistake. Both well designed as a risk reward system, but also a aid for new players who can’t react

I hope this game pops off, though I'm not sure if it will be able to reach Strive's launch numbers. Netcode alone makes it a much more compelling purchase than GBVS, but also just a lot more other shit on the side. I feel like the amount of support they pour into Grand Bruise could make or break it for more casual players. During the beta it seemed like a very basic Fall Guys ripoff, but if they keep adding new games and new reason to just goof around with it, then it would help the main game a lot.
On a more negative note, kinda tired of FG publishers calling "demo" a "free" version. Like yeah, not shit it's free, it's a demo. Doing at least that much should be the norm for any fighting game that thinks it's worth 50 bucks or more.
Maybe one day they would actually start doing proper F2P versions where people could grind to get what they want, maybe keep SP stuff separate for those who buy full game like Halo Infinite did. If someone grinds the game for hundreds of hours and helps to populate the online, then I'd say they more than deserve to be able to some shit for free.
@@TheRadioSquarethis free edition cannot even compare to actual demos like SF6 or the upcoming T8 one. Those demos are standalone with no online. This free edition gives you full online features minus Room matches. You can play in lobbies, ranked, casual and the mini games with full version owners

@@TheRadioSquare i did play KI free edition. It's the same as this but with way less content (only 1 rotating character). It is not a demo. Neither is this GBVS free edition, despite how much mental gymnastics you try to do
@@alfgart You should tell that to the devs or publishers who described free edition of KI as a "glorified demo" at the time.
You also need to understand the difference between demo and "free" version. Demo is just there to give you a test. It severely limits what you have access to in order to give you an idea of what the game is like. Free games allow you to grind out to unlock more content.
I have no fucking clue why you would try and defend the semantics on this considering shit like this doesn't actually make games accessible. Someone playing a demo will either buy the full game or stop playing because their dedication will not be rewarded and characters they want to play will be taken away from them to force a purchase.

All these new mechanics make it feel like I'm playing v 4.0 of the original game which makes me feel like a bigger idiot for spending full price plus the DLC characters on that game.
My only regret is buying the GBVS (the old one), because now I have to buy the GBVS Rising too. 😞 If I had known, I should've waited for the new one before buying.
EDIT: okay, I am aware of it now. Too bad I can't get a refund from the first game.

Its a shame they ripped the rpg from the story mode. That innovative story mode gameplay was what drew me to gbvs in the first place.
is this a nitch game or worth it for a newbie. with tekken and sf6 and kof15 and guilty gear and other games coming so many games so little time to play. but the graphics look amazing so does the rpg of this game as well.
If you're a newbie to fighting games, the first game at least was super beginner friendly. This one should be as well just with more content. The main problem I think it's gonna face is player count. Tekken, SF and KOF are all well known fighting game titles while Granblue, if handled poorly by the devs, could end up being like DNF Duel. A super fun game that only has about 30 active players a day.
I wish there was a better way to get Rupees though 😭
I'm gonna platinum the game but holy shit grand bruise legends is so painful boring, RNG, and takes 10 minutes total. If you place top 5 every game it will take you 28 hours minimum to reach rank 50 which is the trophy

Granblue has more players right now(on steam) and is more beginner friendly and you will feel more at home if you have experience with streetfighter. But I am biased I didnt like strive very much.
I spent so much money on the original that i feel like im forced to skip this.

The outrage about simple inputs having no detriment, reminds me of when I was a DJ and the "OG" DJs were upset that disk players (known as CDJs) were simplifying the old school turntablist style. They were upset that a lot of technical tricks were easily replaced by a simple press of a button on a CDJ (like looping). At the end of the day, all that really matters is that the DJ performs well for the crowd. So in hindsight, all the extra technical work, while impressive and respectable, was actually quite arbitrary at the end of the day.
GBF isn't a game with highly technical long stringed combos with tons of technical inputs and massive move lists, making the "old style" kind of arbitrary in hindsight. It is perfectly understandable that veteran players feel like their skills are now useless, but such is the tide of time. As a general rule, surviving in this world is better through adaptation, not clinging to tradition.
Footnote: Disk player (CDJ) DJ setups have in more recent years gotten replaced by fully digital setups, and the cycle of "old grumpy DJs" has repeated itself once again. Turntablists hated CDJs until it became normal and they adapted to it. CDJ users hated full digital setups (called controllers) until it became normal and now everyone uses it. Adaptation = survival!
I think the sus connections could just be that the other player is on wifi, console players are known for this tbh (the general player base, not the competitive one)

Battlepasses aren't that bad when they're implemented like the battlepass in Apex and Fortnite. You can just buy a battlepass one time, and the rewards included in the current season's battle pass are the premium currency that can be used to buy the next season's battlepass. Basically a one time buy type of thing.

@@IppoX90 Normally I would agree but in this case, no. You can hardly call this a sequel. This seriously just feels like what Gamefreak used to do with Pokemon. Release an unfinished half baked game, then a year later release a new version that's just the first game(s) but with barely more content sprinkled in.
Looks decent but Tekken 8 is just right around the corner and that just looks like something on another level so will probably have to skip this for now but good on arc sys for doing well to get this game back on its feet hopefully it actually is successful though and does well , in the future they could hopefully do more ip based fighting games like One piece which is guaranteed to be successful due to its popularity
FYI this is all Cygames not Arc that got the game back on it's feet. Cygames paid to have the old one continually supported despite it being dead in most regions. Cygames asked for feedback in beta 1 and drastically had the game changed based on the feedback (something they are well known for). They also worked with Arc to find a way to implement costumes as Arc games never do costumes because it's too tough with how the games are designed. The GBF community love their costumes. This is also why everyone is saying GBFVSR is Arc's best looking game ever ... Cygames was heavily involved and funded.
FYI GBF is a very big franchise with a 30 million player base it's just a lot of them aren't fighting game players. As for Tekken lets hope they fixed the terrible netcode from the betas.

@@MaximumCarnage- Well then credit to cygames and i am aware of gb being big it is a gacha, i used to play it myself but if this does well good for them they deserve it and with the effort i do hope it does its the new generation for fighting games and it has a good chance from that alone so im hoping this actually gets to strives level and has a good lifespan as a fighting game cause the previous was pretty dead , and Tekken is looking really really good from the previews and it does have rollback but Harada and Murray have stated they are actively working to improve it and they did from The CNT to the CBT so with how good bamcos team are receiving feedback from the betas i trust them so i do have hope they improved it but yeah tekken 8 looking realllll damn good from having the best customization and costumes in modern and new gen fighting games to having an epic cinematic story that has musou aspects like in tekken force like we all wanted before, and having 3 really damn good newcomers too and the soundtrack goes hard as well and stage design and the amount Content in there as well its just that good ,so my focus for a fighting game is reserved for that . But man every new fighting game has been so good so this new generation of fighting games is just gonna be great
@@fantasprite612 I agree with most of what you said (though I'm not as confident about Tekken for online but outside of Online I completely agree). I'm assuming you don't know, or are missing some facts when you say guilty gear level of success. GBVS sold incredibly well for a fighting game. Guilty Gear Strive is ARC's most successful in the series and sold 1 million by Aug 2022 but popped off and gained steam to be at 2.5 million now. Rollback helped tremendously. However, Strive's predecessor barely sold an estimated 90-100k though. GBVS sold 1.2 million, which is incredible for a new fighting game. It had a great start but died because of covid and netcode. When it launched there was a ton of tourneys and hype and it actually did bring in a ton new people to fighters. You'd see it everywhere, youtube, reddit etc that it was people's first and not all came from the gacha, but a there was a lot from the gacha as well that were willing to try a fighter.
With GBFVSR I'm see chatter again from people looking to get into fighters since it has a great reputation as beginner friendly. Guilty Gear was never that popular until this last installment. GBF has massive brand recognition in some parts of the world with the Anime and Gacha and they are expanding with games like Relink. It's not just because its a gacha that its popular either. Most Gachas don't keep growing or even last 10 years like GBF. They keep bringing in millions of new people. So ya I think if the game is good and has great netcode it can easily catch GG eventually. Will it be in the leagues of SF, Tekken and MK .... very unlikely.

I don't like too much the aesthetic of the game and its pseudomedieval fantasy variety is not my cup of tea (humans with horns/ears are extremely lazy worldbuilding).
However, the gameplay looks solid and engaging, and the bussiness model appears to be interesting and somewhat honest, so I will buy.
Anila, Narmaya, Seox, Ferry and Cagliostro are main material, IMO.
So the characters who are not your cup of tea are gonna be your mains?

Incredibly ignorant take to call rich world of Granblue lore "lazy worldbuilding". Think before you speak because feel free to dislike it, but objectively it's anything but lazy.
Everything about these characters is lazy. Everything from design to personality and dialogue is derivative and uninteresting. One of the major reasons I dropped the first game.
Game will fail like the first because CyGames and their bad treatment of the og owners of this game. Not offering an upgrade path for previous owners who spent full price for GBFV is shitty and has caused a lot to refuse to buy Rising.
