    I don’t know which generation it’ll
be to truly embrace their natural hair in WAVES.. i mean we tried it so many times and reverted back it’s so sad and hard for us😢 (i have locs but i still say us as i am not separate from my sisters)

Now... there are endless reasons why I love my locs but one that stands out for me is the fact that it's my hair...not fake....and I get to wake up every morning with it growing out of my scalp

I think this is something that is mostly happening in USA. I am brazilian and most of black women here loves to use and take care of our natural hair and also styling it. To wear laces and wigs is not really a thing here so i feel bad for american women cause i bet their natural hair is even prettier than these laces

Oh boy! I have seen a lot of videos from stylists having to de-matte the natural hair of depressed women, so I think depression might be the worst time to begin a natural hair journey. It takes a lot of work and confidence to pull off a lot of the awkward styles that can come with short length. Your friend does not have the confidence or energy it takes right now. Plus with the cognitive distortions that come with depression... it's probably best to put her in the hands of a proper psychotherapist. I love that top on you!

The number of times my husband has come home and my head was SHAVED 😂 I have no problem with wigs, I love all mine, but your man shouldn't have a problem with how you express yourself or he should move around. Especially not have a problem seeing your natural hair like it's the boogey man. The hair isn’t the problem. The man and lack of self esteem is 😅

Thank you for showing a pic of Naomi Campbell. A guy tried to say she was the best-looking female, and I said boy Naomi is bald. He saw it and still got mad at me because he got rejected by a light skin female, so he wants to say she looks better than a light skin female on the video. Man, the lies that people tell😅

I don't believe in God, nor do i identify as a woman, but man, do i relate to this. Honestly, those struggling with the internalized racism instilled by their parents, take a leap of faith. I was forced to during covid, but man, i couldn't stop touching my natural hair. And when ive had the energy to do some styles, i loved how i could find myself with my hair. It was so hard to connect with my identity with straight, flat ironed hair or braded hair. I never liked those styles but all my moms responses was "what else is there?"
And when i did hair styles i liked in covid my mom either said it was too masculine (it was fro hawk and i was using a womans tutorial) or it was a wild womens hair.
Im so glad for the year i had away from her. Im never going to the salon again. I hate it. Im autistic and hate the sensory experience, along with having to sit in one spot for hours is agonizing. Heck, a lot of the times they thought i was crying because of pain was actually because i wanted to go home. None of the styles i got matched how i feel about myself and not just on trans level but just on a deeper level.
I realized i had no idea how i think i look on the inside. I still dont, but I now know what I'm not. I dont want this to get too long so Ill stop here ❤

Might I add that the lack of a connection with natural hair is maternally passed down (effect of slavery) I mean how many of us grew up seeing our own mommies wearing their natural hair and loving it?

Very true. We get to break generational curses though. I went natural after giving birth to three daughters. They have different textures of hair from 3b/c to 4c. None of them every mentioned a relaxer or wearing silk press or other straight hairstyles. They've made it to adulthood with locs, wash gos, braid extensions and even TWAs. It is one of my proudest things as a mom

I think a lot of women who don't wear their natural hair still do believe that straight hair is the way. My sister's hair is natural (no chemicals), but she still blow dries and flat irons it straight. She has been asking me questions about my locs and is considering microlocs, but like a lot of people are afraid to try it

Blow drying and flat ironing natural still makes the hair natural. Your sister is not changing the curl pattern permanently with a chemical so technically her hair is still natural.

I don't know. I think it depends on the person and what they've been through, not always age. I'm older than that young lady, and I still struggle with insecurities with my natural hair. I big chopped last year, and for the first time I'm very slowly trying and learning to love my hair. I grew up with a relative who constantly told me how ugly my hair was, so she kept it relaxed to a state of being unhealthy and damaged. I still don't like my hair 100% but I do like my curl pattern, and the way the curls define naturally

Love the message and your vibe. We need to embrace what we have because our hair is beautiful and enough. However her switching to natural hair wouldn't necessarily take away the depression. Even if she took great care of her own hair, she'd likely be still depressed. Sounds like therapy can help with s. ideation, idenity, self worth and self esteem before shes ready to embrace her hair

Chris! Missed you Gurl!!! Hate to admit but I was 55 years old still depressed and unhappy with the natural hair... that was until three years ago Oct 2021 when I locd this mane... and girlfriend, that is when the lovefest began with the swift quickness. Never looked back. I say better late than never. The hair depression is very real. But one has to ready to commit to the phases of transition that one goes through when traveling the loc journey. I will never go back to loose natural hair. Next stop for me when this journey ends is bald.

My question is what do the women her boyfriend works with looks like? They probably are of another race. What she needs to do is leave him, because she is seeking his validation, and she simply may not be his type. She is devaluing her own worth, while elevating him. Maybe easier said than done, but I firmly feel, he is a significant role in her self image
