Cole here, clarification on what I meant by ushering in of the “New Covenant.” The idea that the announcement of the Kingdom of God by Christ was an indication of the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, that’s why I cited Luke 16:16. Thereby superseding them or “fulfilling them” to bring in the Christian era under Christs rule/Kingdom of God as a fulfillment of the promises to Abraham, Israel and the like, see 2 Corinthians 1:20. You mentioned Augustine City of God, what I just described is an approximation of his view along with many others throughout Church history . My apologies, I should have been more specific.
