you said it the group usually switches back and forth with the red concept (cutsey, up-beat) or the velvet concept (horror, dark, or matured tones) and on occasion like one of their more recent comebacks "chill kill" will have both the red and the velvet mixed together.
I need you to understand that whatever year the MVs were released weren't the popular aesthetic or trend that they're following. THEY ARE THE PIONEERS - their concepts were always the firsts at things and they're never afraid to do something different EACH AND EVERY TIME.
@@Xivuu It’s speculated by fans that the MV is dedicated to the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy, but if I’m not wrong this is not official. The song itself is a love song, the lyrics are inspired by a folk tale about two lovers who could meet only once a year on July 7 (seventh month seventh day is the Korean title of the song)
@@za5532yes, you are correct and they officially did talk about it ! Though I don’t really remember when or where, maybe a live just to add, it’s based on a festival called Chilseok and the two lovers (jingnyeo and gyeonu) have a very tragic story contributing to the whole sad ballad vibe
Since you've mentioned wanting the lyrics translated, search TH-cam for Red Velvet, Russian Roulette lyric (for example) and you will get the lyrics in Korean, Romanised Korean, and English all at once. You will also get the pictures or the girls, they will light up with who is singing what line, too.
the " one of these nights" song i think is dedicated to an accident that happent in south korea back then with a lot of deaths of school kids ( not 100% sure)..there are also a lot of hidden messages in the mv about that
I've seen the claimed hidden messages about Sewol in the music video, they just don't add up. Some people just distort what's there because they *want* to make it fit the Sewol accident. You could make it fit anything by using the same approach. The music video has a lot of water, sadness, separation from each other, and darkness with stars/lights, which can easily be "connected" to Sewol (or basically any other sinking, including the Titanic), but are the main themes of the folk tale - which is what the lyrics are entirely about, and what the song is named after (in Korean/Hangul) It's possible there's some intended allusion to Sewol in the imagery, but there's really nothing to match it to Sewol which can't be matched to the folk tale. There's been no indication from the group or company at all to imply a Sewol connection.
@@DoubleMonoLR It wasn't a claim made by intl. audiences, but by Korean people themselves who found a LOT of visual cues. There were many explanation videos of sorts where they sort of found the references. Of course, SM would never be blatant and had to be subtle in the cues and never announce it officially, bcoz it would mean a political statement on the them govt.
i honestly love their cute concepts like Russian roulette and Rookie, but just like you said, they started to become a little bit older to do this kinda stuff, so i was really glad when they switched for more mature vibes with Peek a boo and Bad boy 😻 but still, their b-sides are the best when it comes to gg!
I’m so glad you’re finally finding Red Velvet! They are so amazing & have some wildly different songs in their roster. Some of my fave songs of all times too!
Until 2016, their title tracks alternated between 'Red' and 'Velvet' concepts, but since Rookie they've started to combine it and haven't separated releases as such.
You might not have guessed it, but two of these videos tackle political themes. One of These Nights is a tribute to the victims of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. And ROOKIE mocks the impeachment of President Park Guen-He in 2016. But it takes forever to explain if you don't know the story.
No, One of These Nights is not "a tribute to the victims of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy", despite how much people repeat this. ROOKIE mocking the impeachment of President Park Guen-Hye sounds very much like another fan invention that's distorting the video to fit the event.
@DoubleMonoLR Too many similarities to write off as a coincidence, sorry. Not so fun fact, JYP's extended family was responsible for the tragedy. Yes, THAT JYP.
