I am so glad to see you doing videos again! I really enjoy learning about this type of stuff and you do a great job teaching and explaining everything. I look forward to seeing what you have in store for this year
Yes, I completely agree! It’s also really interesting to see the whole process of getting the fossils out of the rock - I hadn’t seen that before. Wonderful job he did too!
Welcome back Benjamin. Really good to see you back. I hope you can return to your regular videos, but I know you also have other work to do. But great to see you pop up. 👍
Zen and the art of fossil preparation. Excellent video. I really enjoyed it, and even though it may be a niche interest, seeing the actual prep, even sped up, was great for someone like myself who failed to follow his childhood dreams. I would love to see more like this and in the field. Welcome back!
I love it! This is SO elucidating for those of us who have only ever gotten to see fossil prep from the other side of museum windows. Thank you for this video, and this whole channel.
I have so much appreciation for your uploads! Thank you for this latest installment. If you have a minute check out Mamlambo from New Zealand prepping his penguin out of a concretion very cool also, I think you would appreciate his enthusiasm. My favorite video of yours is 'Pennsylvanian Paradox' from 4 yrs ago. I shared it with my daughter after we went to look at the Honaker formation exposure near Arches in Moab. She is a geophysicist and she loved your presentation! Thanks again , Im so glad I can thank you in the comment section, most of your videos have it turned off
With elements like the crest, consider using carbowax reinforced with cheesecloth to support and contain the thin material. It's a water-soluble wax, so you can remove it without dissolving your consolidant glue.
Good job!! Very interesting and professional video! Could it be a regurgitalite? I'm thinking about Serafini et al., 2022 All the best, greetings from Dolomites (Italy)!!
My guess was 'badger-like' until you mentioned the strong tail. Then I thought "otter-like, or giant musk-rat". My guess is it died in its burrow along a river, which was flooded with mud, then mixed up when something else burrowed around in the aftermath. Later it filled again and stayed buried.
The sagittal crest had me confused. Everyone I've seen before ran vertically down the skull, but this one seems to go horizontally across it. Is this a common thing?
Just curious why some kind of electromagnetic scanning cannot be used to see through the rock so you don’t have to mechanically separate the fossil from the rock.
You can use x-rays and CT scanners. Sometimes you can scan the blocks before preparing to see what your getting into. Other times just scan the whole block. The density differences can be picked up. The braincase might be worth scanning to map out the inner endocranium in the future.
Hello Dr Burger ,so nice to see you again always enjoy your awesome vids on a subject I'm very interested in ! How are the girls ? Growing like crazy I'll bet !
I wasn't getting notified of your uploads Ben. I was subscribed but the bell icon had an oblique through it. I tried changing notifications from "None" to "All" & it advised me of "An invalid argument"! I unsubscribed, resubscribed & now I'm able to select "All" in the bell drop down menu. It seems to be cured. I thought I'd write this so that others could check their notification status. I'm off to catch up on what I've missed... Edit: It just turned off notifications again saying that notifications can't be set up because you have your videos set to "suitable for kids"! That seems to be the problem so I guess it's up to you now. You can have videos suitable for kids or you can notify your subscribers when you upload. You can't do both it seems! ☹️
Thanks for figuring this out. Weird. I might have to go through all my videos and see if any are “For kids” I tried from another account and was able to get notifications, but the “Safe for kids” setting appears to cause some issues. Thank you so much for figuring this out!
@@BenjaminBurgerScience My pleasure mate. It just annoyed me that I'd missed so much of your output. Every now & then I go back to your "Great Dying" video. It moves me to tears every time when you tie it all up with the salmon running away upstream from the hydrogen sulphide ocean. Deep time has that effect on me and it's one of my all time favourite videos. The one good thing out of all this is that I have a chunk of stuff to catch up on. Keep safe Ben. All the best from rural Kent, UK.

Glad you are back! Can you please fix your setting so we may be notified when you release things? Awesome video!

@@BenjaminBurgerScience Thank you :)
Yay you are back at least for 33 minutes!

You are back! :D
Hey you're back!!!!
The moment you said a robust tail I thought, 'it's an otter!' I was almost right. :)
Awesome! Tks!
About time Burger! I think Spielberg already has naming rights to ‘Ball of Bones’ though.

Hey you're not dead, good deal. Hope to see you doing more videos again

Hello from Brazil!
Is Ben back?
Cool.
Good job!! Very interesting and professional video!

You have to work "Ball Of Bones" into the species name. Like P. spherosteus or whatever the ancient Greek is
yessss ball of bones!!!
