"Eruption" was basically a less than 2 minute break played during a show that their producer wanted to record and include on an album. This version includes "For Wolfie", for his son, at the beginning. From there it just goes where Eddie wanted.
Eruption was a warm up exercise he used to do in the studio. He was doing it as he always did and someone thankfully pressed the record button to get it on tape. Rest is history.
I've watched about 25 eruption reaction videos and yours is my favorite. I love you're enthusiasm. Love hearing you rave about eddie. Yeah,,,,,,,,,Eddie's awesome and so are you guys!!!

I was a guitar nerd in the late 70's so try to imagine my reaction when I first heard this. That first album swept us all off our feet. As far as who is the best guitarist, well that is a whole chapter because you need to define genres. For blues it was SRV. For rock it was Randy Rhoads. For flamenco it was Paco De Lucia. For fusion it was Allan Holdsworth. For Classical it was Andres Segovia. For swing it was Django Reinhardt. For world music it is Jesse Cooke. For folk it is Adrian Legg. My favorite has always been David Gilmour.

Eddie is was the best I cried when I heard he had passed away meant the world to me best memories with friends going to his concerts and I always brought a friend extra friend with my regular best friends when we went to see them if friend had no money id buy them a ticket to see Eddie solo and there music the would thank me after for having one there best memories after. only 2 shows I could put up with there equal to there shows concerts was when I seen led zepplin twice or when I seen Aerosmith in the 90s when they came out with 2 cds then big ones and pump they played all there greatest hit which there from my hometown so when ever they were home they put longer and concerts for there hometown crowd. but Eddie and Van Halen were always my favorite except led zepplin best music band alll time. can't wait to watch you guys see this enjoy this. Eddie. An Halen is indeed one of the best guitarists of all time. As for #1, it can only be Jimi Hendrix. He was doing it in the late 1960s! Want proof? Listen to the song “House Burning Down” off his album Electric Ladyland as well as any live performance from the Monterrey Pop Festival in 1967. You won’t be sorry.

Millions of us think Rory Gallagher is one of the best guitar players ever, Jimi Hendrix was once asked how does feel being the greatest guitar player in the world and he said he didn't know you would have to ask Rory Gallagher. Rorys concerts are legendary, very high energy with amazing guitar playing. His whole band is amazing musicians, in 1970,s nobody could come close to these guys in concert. Rory Gallagher is sometimes referred to as the greatest guitar player you never heard of, he sold over 30 million albums thru the 1970,s. Rory Gallagher is the biggest rock star to come out of Ireland, thank you and happy St Patty's day.

The vast majority of this is a combination to all of Edward Van Halen's famous guitar riffs from various song recordings as well as other recorded signature guitar solo tracks (e.g. "Cathedral," "Spanish Fly," "Eruption," etc.), but just mishmashed around to whatever flow he wanted to play them. Naturally improvisation is always in the mix of any artist to any scope of audio craft, but also one can only play the same melodies in order over and over in a live solo set for so long. He would always mix the live solo up to keep it fresh for both himself as the musician and the audience as the listeners. As time evolved with the addition of more musical scores/recordings, so had his live guitar solo performances, and they just became more intricate along the way. I grew up with the Van Halen World Invasion and have been Baptized live by the Rock & Roll Guitar God probably close to 20 times in my lifetime. Each time just as jaw dropping, and each time the guitar solo set included his signature guitar recordings, but the various riffs would come and go, change each tour, etc. In a nutshell, it's just a wonderful medley of his ferocious, innovative and genius guitar work. In my opinion, Jimi Hendrix and Edward Van Halen are really the two biggest game changers in rock and roll guitar playing, and easily both on the Mt. Rushmore of such notoriety. One can still hear King Edward's DNA is almost all rock and roll guitar players from around the world today... and more so than probably any other guitar player. Easily giving him the title of the Most Influential Rock Guitarists ever if not all time (although in all fairness, Hendrix didn't have the luxury of VHS, youtube, etc. to reach so many folks either). Mr. Edward Van Halen? Us fans miss you sorely, but we all thank you for sharing your wonderful gift and making our ears bleed with both 'Wtf is THAT??!!!" guitar work and brain-splitting brown-sound volume and tone. May you shred in peace!
You can now see why Eddie Van Halen is considered by many people as the greatest guitarist that has ever lived (GOAT!!!!) the things that he was playing are mix up of the different guitar techniques and skills that he acquired over his years of self teaching himself the guitar. He was not even able to read music but he was a prodigy and musical savant. He played the guitar, the piano from when he was a small child. He also made his first complete guitar that he used in the band and it was a guitar body second that he got when the guitar manufacturer threw out the bodies with flaws and he put in the pick ups that he thought sounded the best to him and he painted the guitar in multiple colored stripes that people called "the Frankenstrat"! He ended up creating many different guitars and a guitar manufacturer coupled with him to create his signature brand of guitar called the "EVH" that is still one of the most popular and sold guitars out right now! Mankind lost a true musical genius when Eddie died a few years ago from cancer that he had been battling. He was addicted to cigarettes but when he died his lungs were clean from anything from the cigarettes and he said that his cancer probably came from his guitar picks that he would put in his mouth while he was playing. You really need to watch the bands song "POUNDCAKE" when he plays his guitar with an electric drill!!!!!!😮😮😮😮 Eddie has and will always be missed when you compared his music to the music that is coming out since he has died!!!! TO THE KING...........KING EDWARD!!!!!!!!😅 YOU NEED TO GO AND LISTEN TO EACH OF THE THINGS THAT HE BUT LISTEN TO EACH piece completely and not just tiny parts.

The actual piece entitled Eruption was a short solo guitar piece he released on vinyl. This live performance is confusingly entitled Eruption (probably to catch peoples attention, since it is a popular piece), but it includes Eruption mixed with guitar solos from various albums, such as Spanish Fly, Cathedral, Mean Streets, etc..
And also remember this the drummer is his brother Alex he was the one that started on guitar and apparently realized that was Eddie's office space so he took up the drums and that's the core of that Essence that became Van Halen
Hands down best reaction I've seen for this clip! Next time you watch the movie Back to The Future, pay attention to the guitar solo that Marty plays at the school dance. Whether or not EVH played that is uncertain but Van Halen's music was the style that influenced that solo... Guess we're ready for that kind of music now 😉.
When u talk about the best guitarists ever, Eddie is right up there with Hendrix, Page, Lukather, … not just great players but most influential on the next generations learning. Prince too. Can’t forget him in the “best”. He was one badass guitarist.
Eddy, sorely missed!!! I grew up with Jimmy Hendrickx, Ritchy Blackmore, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Jan Akkerman, Toots Thielemans (who was also a brilliant gutar player), .... you name 'm, I forgot a lot of them (Sorry). But the biggest revelation in my days was the album 'Van Halen' ... 'nough said. A lot of the sounds in the - ridiciously mindblowing guitar solo - originated from that album. Music-wise, it was a good time being a boomer, get it on Gen-whatever 😀
It should be mandatory for everyone to listen to the album versions of "Eruption" "Spanish Fly" and "Cathedral" first, the main pieces of the live solo. Just so you can experience it like everyone else, having your mind blown and then you see how he does it live.

You can now see why Eddie Van Halen is considered by many people as the greatest guitarist that has ever lived (GOAT!!!!) the things that he was playing are mix up of the different guitar techniques and skills that he acquired over his years of self teaching himself the guitar. He was not even able to read music but he was a prodigy and musical savant. He played the guitar, the piano from when he was a small child. He also made his first complete guitar that he used in the band and it was a guitar body second that he got when the guitar manufacturer threw out the bodies with flaws and he put in the pick ups that he thought sounded the best to him and he painted the guitar in multiple colored stripes that people called "the Frankenstrat"! He ended up creating many different guitars and a guitar manufacturer coupled with him to create his signature brand of guitar called the "EVH" that is still one of the most popular and sold guitars out right now! Mankind lost a true musical genius when Eddie died a few years ago from cancer that he had been battling. He was addicted to cigarettes but when he died his lungs were clean from anything from the cigarettes and he said that his cancer probably came from his guitar picks that he would put in his mouth while he was playing. You really need to watch the bands song "POUNDCAKE" when he plays his guitar with an electric drill!!!!!!😮😮😮😮 Eddie has and will always be missed when you compared his music to the music that is coming out since he has died!!!! TO THE KING...........KING EDWARD!!!!!!!!😅 YOU NEED TO GO AND LISTEN TO EACH OF THE THINGS THAT HE BUT LISTEN TO EACH piece completely and not just tiny parts.

The actual piece entitled Eruption was a short solo guitar piece he released on vinyl. This live performance is confusingly entitled Eruption (probably to catch peoples attention, since it is a popular piece), but it includes Eruption mixed with guitar solos from various albums, such as Spanish Fly, Cathedral, Mean Streets, etc..

I know that the general consensus is that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest guitar player ever, but I feel that Eddies talent exceeded it.

And also remember this the drummer is his brother Alex he was the one that started on guitar and apparently realized that was Eddie's office space so he took up the drums and that's the core of that Essence that became Van Halen
Hands down best reaction I've seen for this clip! Next time you watch the movie Back to The Future, pay attention to the guitar solo that Marty plays at the school dance. Whether or not EVH played that is uncertain but Van Halen's music was the style that influenced that solo... Guess we're ready for that kind of music now 😉.

When u talk about the best guitarists ever, Eddie is right up there with Hendrix, Page, Lukather, … not just great players but most influential on the next generations learning. Prince too. Can’t forget him in the “best”. He was one badass guitarist.

I grew up with Jimmy Hendrickx, Ritchy Blackmore, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Jan Akkerman, Toots Thielemans (who was also a brilliant gutar player), .... you name 'm, I forgot a lot of them (Sorry). But the biggest revelation in my days was the album 'Van Halen' ... 'nough said. A lot of the sounds in the - ridiciously mindblowing guitar solo - originated from that album. Music-wise, it was a good time being a boomer, get it on Gen-whatever 😀

It should be mandatory for everyone to listen to the album versions of "Eruption" "Spanish Fly" and "Cathedral" first, the main pieces of the live solo. Just so you can experience it like everyone else, having your mind blown and then you see how he does it live.
