  • Today I'm reviewing the 13 hour flight from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Malaysia Airlines fabulous Airbus A350 in Economy Class.
    I paid £500 for a one-way flexible ticket, but a basic fare can be had for as low as £550 return in economy. For that you a comfy seat, delicious food and an overall pleasant experience.

    Hey there, just wanted to clarify about the broken train issue. The aerotrain that connects KLIA Satellite Building to KLIA Main Building is actually not in operation because it is currently being upgraded. The airport is currently changing both aerotrains because they are already 25 years old and were frequently having technical problems since last year. The Ministry of Transport Malaysia already stated that the KLIA aerotrain will be back in operation next year. As a temporary solution, the airport provided free shuttle busses to help travelers move between both buildings safely. On behalf of all Malaysians, I'm sorry that you had an unpleasant experience in KLIA. I hope that it will not stop you from enjoying what our country has to offer, though.

      Thanks for watching! Don’t worry, the bus was only a minor inconvenience and Malaysia in general was great. Just wish the immigration queue wasn’t so long!

      @syafiqrizuan5588 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The distance between KLIA main terminal and Satellite terminal is about 1 km by aerotrain, so KLIA is not ideal for transit flight unlike BKK and SIN. KLIA seems need to improve their infrastructure and making more new building beside Satellite terminal in order to expand capacity. Many passengers would prefer to transit the airport with 1 terminal and have short distance to boarding the flight. This is the reason why KLIA is lagging behind with other airports around the world such as SIN, HKG, DOH and etc.

    One thing that MH excels is the warmth and friendliness from the crew from the moment you enter the plane till the landing announcement. They call it Malaysian Hospitality and it stays true till now. And yes, the safety video is entertaining and attention-grabbing (which is important for safety video) unlike other airlines. Agreed with the rest of commentary too including the cons for onboard entertainment.

    Thanks for this video! I will also be flying from London to Kuala Lumpur in a few weeks. I really wanted to fly with Malaysia Airlines as I had flown with them before and was very satisfied. The Malaysian hospitality was very heartwarming. Your video was very helpful. I also looked for a seat in economy where I don't have a seat in front of me. And thanks to your video I already know how everything works!

    Up until around 2009 I always chose to fly MH instead of SQ for long haul even though I'm from Singapore and that usually meant an extra stop at KUL making the traveling time longer. I found the service consistently warmer, the food as good if not better, and more generous, and legroom in economy used to be significantly better than on SQ too. Not to mention prices were much more competitive. I always felt like "second class citizen" on SQ economy and even in premium economy the one time I tried it. I stopped flying MH when they cut a lot of routes, ran into serious financial problems, and then of course the two tragedies made a dent in confidence. But I would fly MH again now if they serve the routes I happen to need.

    • @freddiesflightreviews
      @freddiesflightreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yep, Malaysia Airlines have definitely had a rough time with the crashes and almost bankrupting themselves buying the A380s. Overall I still think Singapore are probably better. But for the flight from London in economy I definitely preferred Malaysia Airlines.

    • @dr.vostro7046
      @dr.vostro7046 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree with you. I also felt like "second class citizen" on SQ. Worst part was, they failed to connect my flight from Florida to LA on my trip back to KL. I had to book for another flight from Florida to LA although I've paid for the whole trip from Florida to KL under SQ. Just imagined you already arrived at Florida airport and found out that you don't have flight to LA because SQ fxxxked up your booking. I will never fly SQ again.

    • @grandcharm
      @grandcharm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@sart3735 Not sure about the rest of the commenters, but my own comparison is based on perceived difference in level of courtesy and service between economy class on SQ vs other airlines, and not comparing treatment of Singaporeans vs non-Singaporeans, if that's what you're reading from the comment (admittedly the term "2nd class citizen" is rather loaded and vague, maybe wasn't the best phrase to use). Obviously flying economy means you are already on the bottom rung of passengers, but the attitude and service level in economy frequently fails to live up to the image projected by SQ. In my recent personal experience SQ economy crew have a courteous but perfunctory attitude, whereas on MH (at least back then) there was a greater sense of genuine warmth.

  • @SHADOW-578

    Totally agree, I fly SQ from SIN to NRT return, they only serve 1 meal, whereas I saw a couple of reviews for MH from KUL to NRT, they serve 2 meals for the same distance, and that explain why SQ made huge profit on the recent financial report.

Imagine I checked in a flight departing around midnight, and relaxing for a few hours inside the MH lounge at KUL before boarding. Then I peeped the flight movement display on my way to the washroom and found that my flight was delayed till noon next day. Well I understand things happen, but WHY there's no announcement inside the lounge and no staff was looking for that flight First/Business class passengers and just let them discover themselves? It;s a long story that day, this was not the only episole for me and my wife to make that decision.

Fantastic staff, comfortable seats and it made the long flight relatively easy. A couple of months later I flew with Qatar and I have to be honest, it was utterly sh1t. Dirty plane, overworked crew. From my best understanding as an aerospace engineer, this is more of a technical practice. AC units in aircraft are most efficient when powered by the engines and when refuelling, the engines should obviously be shut down to conserve fuel and for the safety of ground crew as well. Of course that could compromise comfort but at that stage of a flight, that should not be a bigger priority than safety. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) could do the job but its biggest priority is to power up essential electrical systems (cockpit, galleys, cabin lights) and later on, the engines. Not to mention starting the engines is when the APU has to work the hardest to provide bleed air to fire up the engines.
      (EDIT): I missed out the fact that since this was summer time, AC units are not powered since using the APU for extended periods during the summer can potentially cause serious heating issues within the APU as the cooling needed could exceed the maximum cooling limit the APU can receive.
