LOVE SEEING THE WHOLE FAMILY LOVING THE HOBBY! It was my first time using a driftwood and having a hard time getting rid of the tannins. It's taking a while now. Did you guys had that issue with your driftwood? If it did, how long did it take to go away. Thanks in advance!

@@jhedokings thank you! My boys are really getting into the hobby now which is helpful to incorporate family time and tank cleaning 😂. I did in fact had issues with the tannins. We had TONS of water changes quite often in the beginning. I can’t recall how long it took but I definitely remember it was a process. Don’t give up! But if you have smaller pieces I do recommend boiling them if you are not aware. For my other tanks it has worked in the past. 😊

I'm a lazy keeper so I added Mexican oregano (a lot of herbs do well in water) to grow over my tank, their root system turns my tank into a jungle. It absorbs so much nitrates that it starves out the algae. It smells good and you can use it in your pantry. I think changing water too often when water is still within parameters in a planted tank is flushing away all the food your plants need to grow.
I find shrimp entertaining to watch and cleans up whatever uneaten food the fish miss. Your plants might be getting too much light if you're using that one linked. You can try raising up your light an inch a week till you find a sweet spot where the plants are happier and the algae will struggle. I like a little algae myself, not a fan of sterile tanks, more life more better imo.
I'm also cheap and don't like chemical additives, try my best not use them. You should try adding some organics and micro organisms from a local creek, they help form a better ecosystem. Fish like to snack on them too.
Those faux piranhas are pretty sweet, I'm jealous how big of a tank you got and the aqua scaping. I'm also kind of lazy with that too lmao.
    Gave you a sub :)
