You inspire me so much!! Just watching your videos, my work has gotten better and better each time. I love your honesty and realness you share with the hair world!
Watching your videos is seriously starting to upset me haha because I literally can't find one hairdresser in Ireland that is even a fraction of the hair god that you are! So jealous of all your clients! You are outstanding!
I think this is awesome that he's doing these free instructional videos because there are a lot of hairstylists that can't afford the expensive classes or videos and education is extremely important in our industry..
I love love this tutorial. I can't wait to try this on one of my clients. I've seen a few stylists who just lighten that hair and tone in the shampoo bowl without going back to make sure the color has lifted evenly. Taking that extra time is so worth it. You sir are getting me so excited and inspired to get back into a salon and start working again!
Thanks Lauren. Yes I take my time to perfect the color tone. It needs to grab evenly because it will look uneven at the end and it will be a color correction.
i am soooooooo happpy you showed what the hair looked liked before toning it. I have so many clients that have the freak out moments before when they see the raw hair. I always warn them before but you could totally see panic on there faces. Thank you for an amazing video
Loved this tutorial! Love your work! Your work is not only beautifully natural, but so inspiring. As a stylist myself, it's always my goal to maintain the integrity of the hair and make the color process look as natural as possible...always trying to improve in our art. Thank you for sharing! I especially loved how you filled the hair after the balayage and then toned it.
Those brushes are awesome! They stay just like that and don't fray!! I agree with you there. Love this video! Great learning for those who are learning color correction!
Guy Tang YES! I have some stained with Vivids right now! I am not happy! I am picky! I love those brushes and I can't bring myself to use them on clients when stained!!!
You can't explain why you do what you do because it comes natural to you! It just flows from your brain through to your hands. Thats what makes hairstylists amazing, then you have copycats trying to survive in the industry. You're an inspiration to me and my little hole in the wall salon in No-wheres ville NH. People be looking good over here because you have encouraged me to try new things!
oh gosh, you need to do like a hair tour where you go cross country and fix hair disasters. I love your tutorials using olaplex! I color my hair like no tomorrow and i've had to go back to dark brown (my natural color) and i want to have a dark blonde balayage , should i go for it even though my hair is still recovering from my last salon massacre?
Im a new hairstylist who has big love for hair painting. You and Larisa Doll inspired me so so much. I get all my inspiration and motivation from looking at yours and her works everyday. Thank you for being so awesome!!!! - --- Susie P
you truly have this down to a science! I love watching your videos and please post more content!!! Even if it's not about hair, I would love to see you do a VLOG!!!
Hey Guy! I am gradating from Cosmetology school in 3 weeks. I am so excited and nervous to work at a salon. There is so much I haven't been able to learn and experience but your videos really are a blessing. It's so funny because what you used to tone her hair was something that would have been unfathomable at school. The end result was amazing. Would you PLEASE do a video on how to chose the right toner? We are usually told to use the same 2 colors for every hair. I know that won't benefit me in the long run. Thanks!
You will learn *much* more when you are out of school. I advise apprenticing with the best stylist you can find for a short time and above all else, focus on your career. There is a lot of money to be made in hair if you are happy and positive and focus on customer service and being successful in the industry. DO NOT let yourself get dragged into salon gossip and toxic work behaviors. Always be working on something to advance your career, don't be pulled down by the mediocrity. I would buy several mannequin heads and go on Ebay (or wherever) and get the CD sets for Sassoon, T & G, etc... Learn all the cuts. Practice with color as much as possible. Save up some money and hit some trainings out of town when you can like at Arrojo or Sassoon or go to some of the hair shows. Always be working on learning your craft and building clientele (always rebook the next appt. after your appointments). If you can do all this and stay away from the loser stylists that will drag you down (the ones that sit in their chairs or in the back and bitch all day), plus find someone great to apprentice with, you will be well on your way. Also, check out the discussion boards like Behind the Chair and also sign up for the various magazines. Good luck!
So glad you showed us how you balayage and what happens when its goes crazy orange. Good to know that you can make it all crazy orange just to even it all out. Never thought about that. Thanks for sharing. Please do more of these! Maybe do an opposite. Blonde going to a smudge darker/natural look? Thanks!
omg !!! thank you thank you thank you !!!! I have been following your work for a while now and all the information in this video is soooo helpful. live in ga and we don't get a ton of education classes here like in nyc or la, so seeing one of your videos is a life saver !! im trying to be the best stylist possible and hope to be as good as you one day !! you are def one of my hair idols !!!
P.S. I also love that when you saw that her hair wasn't going to give you took a different route. I've had to do that before even though I didn't want to so I could keep my clients hair ON her head instead of out the door in a bag. Love you!
I'm graduating cosmetology school August 6th and I would like to thank you for uploading these videos. They helped me so much. :3 I hope to be skilled with color as you are. Also you have a wonderful and bubbly personality.

SO SO GORGEOUS! I'm loving the coppers this fall. I love that you try different tools and color lines and review them for us. I just got the Artego balayage bleach. Good to know about the mellow lift ability. Especially since I use Olaplex. Thank you for that. Loved how the Wella spread. Cool. And I think I'm going to have to play with the Kenra line more. Gorgeous colors! Thanks for the tips. You are my go to guy, my #hairgod, and.....my #rockstar! Mwah! #jaynewashere
Hi! I love your videos! This video i really liked because you showed that not everyone lift and turn out the way your hoping. I have so many clients coming in with pictures of your work and I have to explain to the all the time an energy you put in to the process. and usually for my clients I just do not have the color correction kind of time and they do not wanna wait till I can get them in again. lol So anyway I thank you for showing off your talents!
Thank you so much for showing the process all the way through and really being real with us. If you could do this with all your videos It would really be what us stylists need. Are you holding any formal classes? I just love your work!!

LOVE it! I have been thinking about getting my hair colored and was trying to figure out what to do. I'm hoping that my hairdresser can do something like this on me. I know the effect won't be exactly the same since I have naturally curly hair and plus, it won't be done by you, but let's see what happens. I wish I could go to California just so you could do my hair.
Omg this is why I'm busting my ass to afford a trip to america and get my hair done by you one day. Seriously, your innate talent and eye for hair is an art in it's self. Guy Tang I love your videos and ig posts! So much fun and absolutely hairgasmic :-) just one question with the final formula 7bc + 6bc what volume developer did you use? (Or you didn't use any?) Thanks!
Ok so I have watched every single video you have made! Just when I thought you couldn't amaze me more (that's including our airport chats) you "blew" my mind again. My fav video so far!! Thank you for being so generous with your experience, knowledge, and tips. I would love to see a more technical video like this on how you achieve that gorgeous rose gold. Maybe even a color correction video, lol. I don't care if it ends up being super long!! If you are talking, I'm listening. ; )
I like your video. Really enjoy them. Very Entertaining and educational. What is your favorite lightener for Balayage and Ombre? The one you use or prefer on natural blondes(level 10-7)and brunettes (level 6-3)?
Thank you for your continued educational tutorials. Color is definitely my favorite service, because it shows your creativity. Thank you so much for inspiring me more. Thank you for your continued educational tutorials. Color is definitely my favorite service, because it shows your creativity. Thank you so much for inspiring me more.
