Gel blasters were designed to resemble real firearms, that is the main issue. If they had been designed to look like nerf guns then there wouldn't have been any problem.

The sad thing is m8, all it has to do to get this classification is look like a real gun, the law basically breaks down to, if it looks like a gun then it is a gun. This is how fucking sad & pathetic our country has become. What fucking petty criminal has the $30K to buy an AR-15 or an M4? if they have that type of money their not going to be robbing the local shop, the meere fact that the 'real steel' versions of these guns would be so expensive & hard to get for the average criminal in Australia should be a telling sign that anyone weilding an AR-15 or M4 or any other type of 'assult rifle' in a robbery is holding a fucking toy gun. What is the difference between a gel blaster being used in a robbery or other crime & someone spray painting a cap gun black? Shouls we make cap guns require a license too? Hold on tight to your rights m8, otherwise you'll end up like Australia, needing a gun license to own a toy!

Ok so I am in QLD, but I am treating this as if it affects me the same, as I am sure it will "because nanny state".
I would urge nobody to sell them, there is 6 months amnesty, in which time you cant use it without registration and licence. Alot may happen so don't panic. Worst case, you can sell them to QLD after a few months and transpirings have passed. If you know a friend with an arms licence and safe, do store them there, and maybe give em a carton for their troubles.
I would also say anyone in the position to obtain a firearms licence, safe, and register their blasters to do so, as the overwhelming paperwork will show how many people love the hobby/sport and do the right thing. THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY BLASTERS EXIST! The idea is to absolutely swamp them with concerned legitimate owners questions and applications to give them the message and idea.
I would also urge everyone to ring, email, go into police stations and ask how their application is going as OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!
This swift under thought out law needs to affect SAPOL in a major way that hampers their day to day going about their job. If everyone rings, emails, and visits their local police station everyday with one question, they will get sick of it VERY QUICKLY.
Inconvenience them with the stupidest legitimate questions; repeatedly. Just to clarify your position with the new law. Remember, you want your hobby and sport without being prosecuted, you DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL! But you do want information to clarify your position.
So swamp them with your legitimate concerns, over and over, ring every day to see your licence and registration's applications progress, you need it quick so as to not be outside the law right? As quick as their knee jerk ill thought out plan.

  • @jaysonsmith9971
    @jaysonsmith9971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Wow Bradley!
Your now experiencing what I went through when I had to sell or hand in all of my Airsoft gear after the Howard Goverments knee jerk reaction to the Port Arthur Massacre. I had a bucket load of rifles and pistols, and a few paintball markers too. WAPOL did the exact same thing, made them replicas, had to get a licence, had to get a safe, and you had to join a club as your reason for posessing. It killed the Paintball and the Airsoft Clubs alike. Perth has only one Paintball field , and that gets used for Gelsoft and Paintball. The other Paintball fields are a 2.5+hr drive away, so playing at those venues means you go for the weekend...
Gelsoft is a very grey area in WA because of the lack of legislation, but WAPOL is doing what they can to get them made illegal by proposing an amendment to the legislation.
Then we have Aaron Stonehouse, the Liberal Democrate thats trying to pass the Airsoft Bill, with the exact same stipulations that SAPOL has just done to Gelsoft, licence, safe, reason to possess. Essentially what they are doing is making it just as expensive play any of those three sports into something that is just as expensive as real shooting. Well sort of, because the price on real ammo has gone through the roof since COVID hit.
I hope that it turns around for you there, because whats happening over Gelsoft, its just crazy right. You and I both know that a NERF dart hits way harder that any Gel Blaster. I always laugh when I see a video with people going full auto with their 350fps build on a box at point blank, and 3-4 seconds in they finally bust through the box, where we NERFERS can punch through cardboard with on shot. Hell my Zeus is a plastic tub lid shield breaker at 15m or less. The balistic capability on NERF is way higher than anything Gelsoft has on offer. But because of the foam dart, and the brightly coloured apperence we can use this more powerful, harder hitting toy where ever we want... Its mental!
Here is a question for you Bradley, would you sacrafice the real steel look for someting that looked like a toy but fired gels?
I ask you this because when I try and introduce new people to NERF, its a slog, because people what it to look more real, and they hate picking up darts. But if I show them a Gel Blaster, their hooked straight away, and their off buying Gel Blasters.
I think that it would be a good compromise, and its something the Gelsoft Industry should consider.
I think that licencing a toy is rediculous, because all the honest people will do it if they want to own and play. But it still wont account for the muppets that wont and will do the wrong thing with them, but the end result is the sport or hobby suffers, but not because of the wrong doers, because of all the massive amounts of red tape you will have to go throught just to get up and running if you can afford it... Gelsoft, Airsoft, and Paintball should all be cheap, but its not because your licencing a toy as though it was real.
My arguement with WAPOL/SAPOL is if they are so effective as a lethal weapon, why aren't the police and the military using them?
Well Bradley your now in a full NANNY State... I feel for you mate, and I hope you figure out how to make your videos with this new inconvenience thats been thrust upon you.

From the video can't even enjoy a gel ball. So the blaster appearance seems to be relevant and but also the projectile. Under this dictatorship you can shoot a gun but not a gel ball. So if we had need looking gel ball same laws would apply it seems based on the gel ball. I can cause more damage to any human with a spoon from the kitchen than a gel ball can do. Fact. I cannot believe in the midst of our country essentially being shut down. Like prisoners almost. Testing many people's mental health and future financial well being and THiS is what SA police and government have been spending time and money on. They should all be ashamed of themselves. But when your grandchildren (yes cos you making these stupid decisions are clearly living in the past) want these options in life youlist'll pay there way cos you got the money to do it all and they won't miss out. So based on these laws a gel blaster is now a replica and the gel ball is illegal. I'm going to simply covert my gel soft to shooting a nerf dart. Based on these new laws my realistic looking nerf blaster is perfectly legal to carry and play with anywhere. Because of the projectile in these new laws.

As a LFO, I know and understand the frustrations Gel Blaster owners are going through. Many times firearms have been re catagarised to our frustration.
I also have a GB. It is a cheap $40 dollar one and like most I got it to have some fun around the house and keep my eye in for when I take out the real stuff.
But the registration fee of $40 is not worth it due to the cost of the GB.
Also once you put your application in for a firearms license and pay the fee, you also have to pay a fee to do the course. so by the time you become a firearms license holder and put in your PTA (to which you will have to wait 28 days for the approval, so you will not be able to use it in those 28 days) and pay the registration fee, you are close to spending $400, a safe is about $250 ish for a level 1 depending on how big the safe is you get and a level 2 is easily over the $1000 mark and more.
So all up around $600 just to have a toy..... I think SAPOL's funding is down due to not being able to make Quota this year due to the Covid

Draconian Sapol regulations and not even a payback 62000 Blasters in south Australia that cant even burst a balloon. The small amount of criminals that might use one in a robbery and scare the public this new law wont stop them because they are criminals and wont be among those that lose their guns because it is so hard to keep. People could do nothing, support the class action and wait for it to be legal or at least a payback. Alternatively go back to modifying nerf blasters they can be more powerful and accurate. I was one who was concerned that they didnt have orange tips on their barrels, at lesat they could have done that and classed them the same as Nerf blasters. A society with the least amount of laws governs itself the most effective. Laws dont stop criminals only the people that didnt need them in the beginning.

@@davidtapp3950 That's why the US requires any recreation of a firearm, such as paintball, airsoft, Nerf to have an orange tip... mind you there's still people out there who call cops even if a toy is entirely bright freakin' orange for carrying a dangerous weapon. The college I'm attending apparently has a straight up ban on anything that resembles a gun, even if it's a dollar store bright orange fake kids toy, from being in public here in the US in the same town you can buy a handgun at the local Walmart...
That isn't enough of an excuse to highly regulate gel blasters though, that could be easily remedied like the US by requiring they be outfitted with orange markings, perhaps even more than just the muzzle. I don't know how Australia works or their reasons, but it sounds like a greedy quick cash grab to me.

I can only write about what I understand to be the situation in South Australia, where a gel soft gun was fired at the windscreen of a motor vehicle from one which was overtaking only a few weeks ago. It was part of a road rage incident. Remember, too that Australia has extremely strict rules about the ownership and use of firearms - the horrifying incidence of shootings in the US gives us every reason to persist with these restrictions.

Stats show that that people who are law abiding citizens and register their firearm are not the ones that commit crimes...
Yes you do have incidents that occur for example where some kid gets his parents weapon and uses it in his school. But what that tells me is that the parents havent secured the firearm correctly and are just as much at fault as their child.
Or where criminals use unregistered guns with ground off serial numbers to commit their nafarious deeds, and cant be traced.
But we are talking about a toy thats made of plastic or nylon that shoots a water pellet that resembles a fire arm. Gelsoft has no real balistic capabilities and that was the stance SAPOL as in how lethal they are, but know have decided that because it looks to real its time to charge you to own a toy.
If they were as dangerous as they are being made out to be, then dont you think that the police or the military would be jumping at it?
It is crazy to think that in this day and age, that here in Australia, how scared we have become of firearms, qnd how badly misrepresented they have become thanks to our government and the news.
I grew up with firearms in the house, I was taught how to handle real steel at a young age, and I find shooting to be a sport tests my eye hand coordination and concentration. I cant run or play contact sports due to a serious injury, but skeet shooting or target shooting is actually really fun, when done properly in a safe enviroment.
The Howard Governments knee jerk reaction to banning firearms in this country has not solved the problem of unregistered deserialized firearms used in crimes.
