    The history and power of the St. Michael prayer is fascinating and unique.
    After celebrating Mass on October 13th, 1884, Pope Leo XIII seemed to go into an ecstasy at the foot of the altar (seen by the cardinals present to appear as though in a coma). When he came out of that state, he revealed that he had seen a terrifying vision of the battle between Satan and Christ's Church. He then went to his private office and composed the Latin Oratio ad Sanctum Michaël (the Prayer to St. Michael) in 2 forms: first a lengthy form reserved for priests in the official rite of exorcism, then a condensed version which he ordered that the Church pray immediately after each low Mass throughout the world: a decree that held until the days of Vatican II and a practice that is still common and beneficial today.
    "Our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness." (Eph 6:12)
    The condensed form of the prayer to St. Michael is a powerful exorcism prayer that anyone can use (unlike the official exorcism prayers said only by priests). Maybe we should employ this prayer more often. Some would say that we need Divine help in this battle against the powers of darkness now more than ever. Following are the text of the official Latin prayer by Pope Leo XIII, a literal English translation, and a video to use if you would like to hear or to learn the Latin form. I try to speak slowly to assist you. I hope some of the faithful may find this helpful. Sancte Michaël Archangele, ora pro nobis!
    Sancte Michaël Archangele,
    defende nos in prœlio,
    contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto præsidium.
    Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiæ cælestis,
    Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
    qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
    divina virtute, in infernum detrude. Amen.
    Saint Michael the Archangel,
    defend us in battle;
    be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
    and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
    by the divine power,
    thrust down into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits
    who prowl about the world
    seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
