It is magnificent!! Powerful and yet tender. The soloist is 👌👌👌👌👌. I love the way her voice lifts above the choir, yet she is with them. The brass of the orchestra -- AH, GLORIOUS I can and do listen to it often. Congratulations.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the recording in the Kingsway Methodist Hall, London - it was even MORE MAGNIFICENT live. She was so slim for a soprano but the aria just flowed from her with the greatest of ease. Incredible.
Yes I agree the use of the brass is unusually fortissimo which certainly enhances the overall performance. It reminds me of a recording of the Beethoven 6 at the Royal Albert hall under the late great Sir Adrian Boult. Its the only recording I have heard where the brass section is used to such great effect in the climax of the 4th movement.

If you’re ever in London, and the Royal Opera House has a production of this on, go.
You can always find tickets for most shows, especially if you avoid the peak days and performances, and if you’re old, disabled or on a low income (and from the U.K.!) they offer subsidised tickets.
Disabled tickets are essentially BOGOF for a carer.
There is something magical about opera. And it really is for everyone, something you’ll see in London 😄👍🏻😷

I love this opera, my favorite version is Zeffirelli's filmed in Sicily with amazing Elena Obraztsova and Placido Domingo. This scene is so beautiful...
I first found this on a compilation CD; played it, lots of lovely music, and then this started, and suddenly I was crying. I've no idea why, but this reduces me to tears every bloody time.
I don't understand Italian to speak or to read: I've found the libretto, but I've no idea where this one starts. I know the title, and I still can't find it.

@@lesliefigueras7708 - His one and only, but what an "only!" I've now got the entire opera on CD and DVD; I'm visually impaired so I struggle with the subtitles, but still worth the struggle.
I had the privilege to be in this opera at Covent garden when I was 13 and in the school choir. Will never ever forget the experience and I cry with goosebumps every time I hear it. Magnificent.

I was born in Sicily but I was brought to Australia by my parents as a small boy. I have been back to Sicily but the last time was long time ago. I have always had a passion for the place and some of these Churches look familiar. A list of names (when you get a chance to do it) would be very nice. Thank you for what you have already done.
