    奥様の夢を叶えてくれる素敵な旦那さん
    ですね♪ 私も行く度に 花魁したいなぁ〜と
    思ってます。でも時間の関係などで、
    毎回、諦めてます(笑)

Japan has the power to spread the beauty and the finest side of Japanese culture and tradition. The west largely doesn't know the difference between an Oiran, a Makio and a Geisha, the last one being more popular due to movies portraying almost only Geishas. I would like to see Japanese being more open about their culture. Oirans are very pretty high class professional working women.

I love how she keeps cracking a smile once she's out walking. Its clear that she feels so pretty in that costume, good for her.

You can read these books: Gary Hickey - Beauty and Desire in Edo Period Japan OR (and I prefer her, because she is an expert and the only REAL non-Asian Geisha in the world) books by Lisa Dalby. She writes about both Oirans, Tayuu and the Geisha. Or look up some books on Amazon. Read Stephen Longstreet, perhaps. And then watch the movie "Sakuran". It is about a famous Oiran, and it is made the same way like Moulin Rouge or Memoirs of a Geisha.

Now that is how you look beautiful without showing a lot of skin.
    Absolutely gorgeous.

can you imagine if that was real hair on a real oiran? That hair style alone would have taken hours!

Hi there! I'm working on a lecture about Geishas versus Oirans, so I saw your posts, and it seems that you have more knowledge about the topic. It has been quite difficult for me to find more information, so I wanted to kindly ask you if you could please suggest some relevant literature or links specially about Oirans.. Thank you very much in advance!!!

@Marice91 Yes, they usually wear it in the evening, but I guess they paint three stripes on their neck. Not two, like geishas do.

@PINKluvr01 Real Oirans technically do not exist, their profession was officially prohibited in 1958 or a year like that. So they ARE, but they only have parades on the street and behave like Geishas, but they are not allowed to sleep with theit customers anymore. As far as I know.
