  • Team Sweden steal the show on day two of the ECCO FEI World Equestrian Games 2022.
Thanks to incredible performances by Henrik von Eckermann (King Edward), Main Baryard-Johnsson (H&M Indiana), Jens Fredricson (Markan Cosmopolit) and Peder Fredricson (H&M All In), the Swedish riders sit pretty at the top in Team standings at Herning.

This has to be hard on the horses back and front legs. Cruel sport. They go higher and higher which does not show horsemanship.

The height shows the horses skill and also makes the approach, which is the riders job, way more consequential. It makes the pairs subtle communication and the riders knowledge on how the horse likes to jump/approach vital. Not the most obvious show of horsemanship, I disagree that higher jumps don’t show it at all.
And the fact that the jumps are so high and jumping them repeatedly does increase wear on the legs makes it so the horses that jump in these competitions very rarely jump this high outside competitions. When training most riders on this level use smaller fences specifically for the horses legs.
Now I will fully admit that show jumping isn’t perfect, no equestrian sport is; but it isn’t it cruel. But there’s absolutely cruel trainers and riders who use bad and/or harmful techniques and training.

when u look at horses like h&m all in, they make it look so easy. imo all the horses should make it look that easy, or they shouldn’t be jumping that height. alot of the other ones just crash down at every landing and don’t have that beautiful soft landing like h&m all in has.

I can see where your opinion come from from just looking at the competitions. It IS high! However, these horses very rarely jump at these heights back home during training. The training is based on strenghtening the horses so that they can jump at these heights a couple of times a year. These horses on this level often end their careers when they are old and not from injury. When you start a horse they are about 3 years old ( in Sweden at least) and All in is around 14 years old now which means he's been doing this for about 10 years and is in excellent shape. They are so well taken care of and they are worked and rested in perfect balance to be able to do this.
