An exciting week for Rapido Trains UK with a whole bunch of new products - but THIS ONE - has really got EVERYONE talking. None other than Ivor the Engine.
I paid a visit to Rapido's HQ in Kent to chat with General Manager Andy Hardy and meet the 21 year old designer responsible for bringing Ivor to life in model train form!

I think the best part of it will be the cardboard cut outs and the sound profile. Really looking forward to this release, thanks Dawn
I agree - the sound card will have Oliver Postgate's voice saying Psh-te-cuff. :-)
An original "fun" model, a bit of light relief?
I have wanted an Ivor the engine for ages, this is great news!!!
Brilliant!
That's interesting, I always enjoyed Ivor the Engine when I was little.... and I still do!
I was absolutely delighted when I first heard of Rapido's plan to recreate Ivor the Engine. I live just a mile from Peter Firmin's studio in Blean where the cartoons were created - indeed I have met Peter, as well as Daniel Postgate's twin brother Stephen - so for me there is a real personal connection here. Can't wait to get my hands on the model.
I like the 'cutouts'
They are quite charming, aren't they?
Thank you for this update. I think the audio will really make it unique.
A very interesting product video from Model Railway Quest! 🚂 🎉 Ron & Heather JAGRAF/X.
Thank you.
What a coup for you Dawn! Glad to see that Rapido have shared their news with you. I’m now considering the switch to DCC just so I can enjoy the sound version of Ivor! 😊
I can't wait to hear the sound on these Andrew.
Can't wait to get mine, would have liked to see the model running though.
If they did one in n gauge, l will pre order one NOW.
I think it lends itself very nicely to N gauge - hopefully soon!
Great stuff Andy!! Our loss was certainly the model railway hobby's gain. You and Rapido have made a dream come true. My order is IN!!
Just watched the cartoons on TH-cam and Ivor has 8 spoke wheels - the model seems to have 6 spoke wheels. Just saying for accuracy😃
Like much of the details - it changes during the episodes and even in the episodes themselves. Wagons sometimes have inside axleboxes - and then suddenly have outside ones.
Some of the earliest sketches and episodes had 6 spokes. There are also some with over a dozen!
@@RapidoTrainsUKsome people can’t help themselves they have to try and spoil things for everyone else.
Sorry guys! Can't relate to this! Never saw the 1959 B & W series, and by the mid-Seventies I was in an Industrial Design course and😊 touring the countryside in my first car! It is terribly cute, and makes a lovely (if probably expensive) toy! Keep up the great work!!
Ivor's definitely making a comeback. I made my own version based on a Smokey Joe earlier this year.
Brilliant! I'd love to see photos!
Not sure how successful Ivor will be, but it looks as though Rapido have had a lot of FUN developing this range!
Another interesting interview, upon a subject from a fascinating series, I always enjoyed `Nogin the Nog` too, again by Oliver Postgate, still have his `paper back` book which enclosed a CD, fact is I had two the other went to a friend in the USA many years ago, Gary Webb whom toured schools in the Mid-West with his Puppets.
Thank you, you may well have sparked my interest is a producing a small layout too. Take care Mrs J.
Glad you enjoyed it. Guaranteed conversation starter in the UK - talking about children's TV programmes - and sweets - from our childhood!
@@modelrailwayquest Talking of sweets, there was a shop in Burton called `Twiggs` who made their own sweets, mostly boiled sweets, can still `taste` their caramel twist's.
They also produced boiled sweets in the
shape of a fish about 3" (100mm) long. One could get a bag full for 3 pennies.
Used to get a shilling (12 pennies) to go to Saturday morning pictures 6 pennies to go in, 3 pennies for sweets and a 3-penny bus ride home.
But I used to run home and sometimes beat the bus. Thus, saving my 3 pennies.
Take care Mrs J.
A must have for those that have the ‘Titfield Thunderbolt’... or live in a small apartment😉
Hello to everyone.
Here is an observation, so don't take it personally anyone out there.
Not necessarily on this channel, but certainly others, members complain constantly about the cost of model trains and how they want more detail and features, yet along comes what is quite simply a toy and unashamedly so, and a mass of "modellers " stampede to get one.
I don't criticise Rapido, a great model manufacturer, nor do I critisis the people who will buy it. My point is how do the manufacturers know what to produce when the modellers don't seem to know themselves. People's desires are being lead by the production, not the reverse as it should be.
Just a thought don't lynch me 😂
An interesting point Terry! This - and the note in your email - are going to make for a very good debate on the Wednesday Express next week. I think you're right about FOMO by the way.
It was inevitable someone would bring it out, only question was who and when, about time too!
I think Rapido Trains UK are the perfect team to do it.
Never heard of Ivor the Engine no surprise really been born years after it went off air. I grew up with Thomas the Tank Engine so I guessing Ivor is aimed at a certain generation not mine. Would be interesting to see a Rapido Thomas hint ,hint.
Not sure that will happen but you never know... I'm more interested in what Hornby is going to replace its PlayTrains series with.... if you like Thomas then you'll like our upcoming video on the Spa Valley Railway (which I'm working on now). A double whammy of Thomas - you're in for a treat.
I bought a Rapido 1500XX Tank Locomotive and it is a great model. But Ivor what a load of rubbish, I have seen it on TV as a young lad and I thought it was rubbish then. I have built many locomotives in OO and O gauge and perhaps I may be a bit of a purest. What do you think ?
I think it appeals to the nostalgia element - but someone made a very good point in that you 'd have to build an Ivor layout. You couldn't really have it on a standard layout - which means you'd have to really be a fan. I like it but I'm not a purist - as you may be able to tell? :-)
@@modelrailwayquest Having said that about a purist I did purchase all the OO Beatles stock last year and I have all this years on preorder. I have to say though that the Beatles locomotives are crap so much so that I gave the 0-4-0T to a younger member of our Club in Diss, he was very happy with that. Regards from Ron 🚂👍🚂
Anyone that has a Westie in the office is alright by me!
Ernie is very cute!
Nice, but where is Idris?!
He is there! I'll post in the Questie Club House
Abso Brill.
Im 69 and ive got the Dvd of Ivor and Bagpuss, My wife has a replica bagpuss which sits on the bed!❤
we have a few Bagpuss around our house
yet another Bostin video Dawn
It amazing that this set is feasible at all, must be a certain demographic that have deep pockets and re living their childhood. Zero interest in buying this, people will wonder why they bought this in the end.
I think there is a market for nostalgia.
Love the train and wagons but not the cardboard stuff or the way they did the figures
From the "prototype" point of view, the cartoon "2d" figures are correct, it's the locomotive and train that's wrong being in "3d"!
It's a fun model, light relief?
P'shtic'ff.
And back to you ;-)
