this is incredible i use logic pro8 which i love but i am blown away at the 2480dvd...its what i really wanted but didn't really know the power it has...being able to record, mix and master with hands on hardware in the digital world gives that organic feel i been wanting...this is a must have

If my 2 x VS2480's stop working I would have no hesitation replacing them. If you were to pay $1500 for a new unit I think you would be getting a very good one!
Two of the most common issues with VS2480's are:
    1) Fader Boards can sometimes need replacing (about $500).
    2) Built-in LCD screen can fail.
Hint: Put a dust free cover over the VS2480 after each use and turn the contrast down on the built-in LCD screen and just use an external CRT/LDC/LED screen/monitor.
    IMHO VS2480's - #1 DAW

It's crazy to think that this 20+ y/o machine is superior to most software and current home studio hardware. In modern times, software manufacturers are shifting back to hardware, unironically.

Thank you, this info will most certainly come in handy!
    Take care :)

Thank you very much for your reply. I should have specified that it would be the VS2480 CD ... therefore, 1500 dollars at this point seems standard.
Very useful info, thank you! Does this apply to any and all DPS LED screens and faders. (Or are you just implying motorized faders?)
And what might I ask are the chances of the LED and Faders being an issue. Thanks again, I'm just trying to do my homework. :)

I want one of these very much, however they are obviously discontinued. My question to you is, if you were in my shoes, would you take the risk of spending around $1500 for a used unit??

I'd love to see a demonstration on how to use the vocoder. Anyone have any vids or links for that?

Despite all the units sold no one ('m aware of) ever made a hit song using one. One reason could be that the there's something about the sound that annoys human ears .Artifacts? Too much information? Poor mix bus? The difference between the tone of the Roland and the Akai is really surprising. But no hits with Akai either!?

+Mike Walker Very true about no hits, but there are a few people who did infact make demo's, that sold many albums ,using home 4 track cassette system. The problem was this came out in 2001, and by that time, the music industries had started to lose money with napster and mp3 thing, and internet ,so not too many people were getting signed, and putting music on the radio, only the last of grunge, and nickel crap and so ,but then they used protools and stuff like that. This was good for home studio users, and about the akai sounding better?, i'm pretty sure its cause they used uncompressed sound, roland does too, but you only get 16 tracks, other than that i'm sure its no different.

+Mike Walker I recorded this with my vs-2480.Sound cloud made it sound a little compressed sounding, and tinny, so don't reguard this to being caused by the roland.

You are incorrect..many great records and a couple of hits. Victor Wooten record his first solo album on a vs 880...it's all about the user.

      311 did !
They actually used 1680s with no monitor output, oh the horror

Yes.we all recorded our first solo albums on a standalone..but even Wooten did'nt have a hit record..or song.

I have this beautiful machine (VS-2400CD) but haven't been able to use it for years because the auto faders go crazy all the time. Here in the UK they tell me it cannot be serviced because it contains materials banned by the European Union!
Has anyone here come across the wayward faders problem and if so do you know a remedy?

    • @shckltnebay

not yet my friend got one and faders are great, im getting on monday

I got one a few years back. I don't use it as a recorder just because I prefer the design of the 16 track....it's my speedboat and the 2400 is a luxury liner with an all day long buffet. But yea..those faders don't inspire much confidence. Neither does the CD player.

    • @mikewalker3337
      @mikewalker3337 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Chris...the 2400 is a beautiful mchine, but it's overated as a recorder anyhow...it's actually far more powerful as a recording tool box than as a recorder. When you consider all the options you have on hand, as well as the sound quality of those options...well hell, if you were lucky enough to have two channels that work you're still set.

What do you mean by that, Mike? Using it as a mixer, or what?
