The Shennanigoonz had to think fast when finals tickets were sold out, so we did the easiest thing possible : We rented a movie theater =) ft. @Thatsthemixup and @Lythero

$800 for just 4 hours in their smallest theater?! That's actually insane. Better to pay an honest business than crappy scalpers.
yup! they were super friendly too and really accomodating
The wording sounds like you feel it to be to much, but in perspective if they lined that 52 seat theater with only 30-40 people for 4 hours (about 2 movies), with tickets for each being about 20 bucks and probably 5-10 dollars of snacks be person thats a low ball of 40 times 50 dollars, so 2000. 800 dollars was a fucking steal, that theater people were fuckin homies for that one.

As soon as I heard "Yeah you can play games" I was ready to hear that they made their own Marvel finals come to life. What an absolutely dope way to watch EVO Finals.

Truly this is the adult version of going to friend house to watch/play game since they had nicer set up. Movie theater moving to the business of renting out the big screen is pretty smart play.

All those Theater owners out there loosing money to streaming should be taking notes, there are definitely some esports events people would buy movie tickets for.

I have mixed feelings with Evo finally getting so popular that scalpers realized they could get $$$ from it
yea same, it's cool that the FGC is getting HUGE but also a downer that people are trying to profit off us =/

Since the pandemic, a lot of theatres have started giving the option of renting out screens at pretty ok prices, but those prices were for individual screenings, an entire day of evo would probably be pretty crazy.

Renting a Movie block to watch Evo is kinda lit. Especially now, with cinema becoming too expensive to manage, they need to come up with more diversity in available content.
it's true! we learned from the vendor there that they actually held church meetings during the pandemic (whatever they could get their hands on) to keep the lights going lol

I don't know how things are in the US, but over here in LATAM, more specifically Mexico, theaters do this kinda stuff all the time, not yet with EVO, but they have done it with Sports like Formula 1, concerts like Taylor Swift and more recently League's world championship, all in theaters officially live

Ay, yo! You weren't kidding, Javi! This year's Evo was my first time ever going and I was fortunate enough to attend the Arena finals on Sunday in person without needing to deal with scalpers. It was amazing! It was literally everything I was hoping for! It helped that the finals this year were hype as hell too but to reiterate. If you have even a passive interest in fighting games, and you can make it out there, 100% go for it! You will not regret it!
SUPER glad you got to experience that without paying an outrageous price! That's awesome and I hope you continue to enjoy fighting games!

There are several Galaxy Theatres in California. Actually there is one near where I live and it is my fav theater ever! I'm so happy that you got to experience this at a Galaxy Theatres. It's funny, the ones in California aren't in like the big big Cali cities xD The one I go to is also a boujee theatre.

Wow. reading so many comments not knowing Galaxy Theater is absolutely crazy. Here in the county I live in, there are at least 2 Galaxy theaters, and both of them are really chill, so it is absolutely mind-boggling that other people outside the state of California are not aware of Galaxy, and it actually caught me off guard, but I am glad to see Galaxy is still the theater goat!
