  • Frustrated by many of the other SpellingYouSee reviews out there, I share a review of SpellingYouSee Level A, Listen & Write. I do a detailed flip through of the instructor's manual and student workbook. Mariah & I also invite you to do a lesson with us as we demo a DITL of Spelling You See.
    We'll talk in detail about the pros, cons, tips & tricks of this unique spelling curriculum.

    There is another program that is implemented in the same way: Apples & Pears by Sound Foundations. It used to be discussed regularly on the WTM forums, but is not well advertised in the US.

    Wow! I had a very unfavorable opinion of this program until I watched your excellent review. Thank you for the thorough walk-through and great advice for implementing the program!

    Do you do this with the happy cheetah curriculum? Or do you think happy cheetah has enough spelling on its own?

    • @EverydayHomeschooler
      @EverydayHomeschooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually asked Dr. Karen, the author of SYS and HC that same question! She said to use Happy Cheetah exclusively and then once you finish that program start your child in Spelling You See Book C.

    Should the teacher have the child make corrections for any words that are spelled incorrectly? What do you recommend?

    • @EverydayHomeschooler
      @EverydayHomeschooler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I always help my child to spell it correctly as soon as possible. We don’t move on to the next word until it is right.

    Thank you so much for sharing your insights on the different curriculum you use. You have such a calm and thorough way of explaining things. I have a little boy who will be 7 in August and attends a public school. He will be entering 2nd grade in the fall if world circumstances allow. After "schooling at home" for the past 2 months, I can see just how much he struggles with reading, spelling, and writing. After seeing this video I think I will explore Spelling USee to help give a boost in this subject. Our district uses handwriting without tears. He is a lefty and has a different pencil grip that we have been trying to correct for 2 yrs. Unfortunately, I have to give him a 100 word spelling assessment next week for regular school. He is not ready and becomes very frustrated. Thanks again and I look forward to future videos. Please keep sharing!

      Thank you! Definitely check out Spelling You Sees other levels (I’m hoping to do other reviews on them soon!). The chunking system was a game changer for my struggling speller!

      @@EverydayHomeschooler I can hear him trying to sound out words, but still sounds out each letter. He also gets stuck on the different "rules" that have been taught so far. Thanks for replying. 😊

    Would this work for a mostly non verbal child?

    • @EverydayHomeschooler
      @EverydayHomeschooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm… Since it focuses so much on visual memory I would think yes, but i would definitely encourage you to reach out to Spelling You See or Dr Holinga.

    Thank you for this detailed video of level A. I’m using this level for my daughter this year. It is our first homeschooling year!!! One question I have is my daughter finishes a lesson before the suggested 10 minutes is up. Do I stop at that point or should I go on to the next lesson?

    • @EverydayHomeschooler
      @EverydayHomeschooler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say to stop. I would also consider skipping some lessons and moving her ahead in the workbook. It might be a signal that she is ready for work that is a little more challenging and takes the full 10 mins.

    Can this double as a writing curriculum as well?

    • @EverydayHomeschooler
      @EverydayHomeschooler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not use any formal writing curriculum with my kids until later in elementary school. If you mean handwriting, this is just meant for spelling, I would still use a handwriting curriculum alongside it. We love handwriting without tears.
