Tell hillbilly that even when burning pure hydrogen the result is still called steam. Smoke is specifically related to carbon combustion. For another example, if you mix bleach and ammonia you create a gas but it's not smoke.
Steam is produced when water is boiled-it is very hot.

Smoke is created by things being burned and particulates going into the air. No particulates in steam just vaporize water.

You are truly a team with Demri stepping it up. It's sad you have to explain so much as people can't see passed the whole job you did to rescue the vehicles off the mountain. They have to know you were asked to do a job. Working around the conditions of winter! Awesome and keep the videos coming.
Smoke consists of gasses and soot.
The gasses typically include water vapor, but smoke differs from steam in that there are other gasses, such as carbon dioxide and sulfur oxides, plus there are small particles.
Translation. Smoke is dirty steam.
@C-Dubs Watson it isn't that simple... smoke is from a chemical reaction with heat, fuel, and oxygen. Steam is the visible transformation, of a liquid, into a vapor, before it becomes a gas.
@SPH¥NX® is there steam in most of what the average watchers of Robbie Layton would call smoke? I was answering Robbie's question. I'm likely comparably or more educated than you and didn't feel the need to flex my youtube comment muscles by reciting what my high-school science teacher defined as smoke. That was an awesome recovery. Nothing like a Blazer with at Search and Rescue sticker on the back getting rescued after being lost/stuck in the mountains for 2 weeks. Demri nice job on getting the skid steer down the hill. Next time she will be in rabbit mode.

In general you should clear a vehicle from the top down. So snow doesn't cover the windshield when you stop. Nothing is worse than driving down the highway when the snow sloughs off a tractor trailer. In front of you lands on your windshield and blinds you. A little bit of common courtesy makes winter driving a lot safer.
Not only is Demri Beautiful she's also fearless. Love the fact that she is so involved with everything in the videos.
If you've got steam, water turned to vapor from heat including the sun shining on it, fire, etc. If you've got smoke, something burned & will never be the same again. 6:01 "hold on.... beep, beep, beep POP!... damage."
Growing up in northwest Minnesota, old car hoods saved our winter bacon more than once. Fun vid.
Demri is fearless good for her, and my goodness such a sweetheart with an awesome attitude. "Where's the brakes" did make me a bit nervous for her I will admit!
If you know, that such equipment usually have retarder (Auto brakes) when you let go off steering (throttle) handles and it comes down to stop. 2nd thats why they put her on lowest speed, so it wouldnt get so twitchy

Smoke is made of solid particulates, light enough to float in air and being carried around in the wind. The particulates com from whatever is burning. Steam is water vapor. Normally you can't see it, but when you do it's because it's condensing on particulates (dust, usually) that are already in the air. Robby's right!

If you had bolted 2 small pieces of angle iron to the bottom of those hoods, you could have had steering.
Keep the hoods for skis and bolt on some 1-inch angle on the tops (bottom of the ski) and keep them for other recoveries where you need to just slide something off the mountain.
I'm happy for Demri! Not only did she get to realize what she's been missing all along but we also got to appreciate just how courageous, powerful, and capable an individual she is. And, in gaining this experience, like you alluded to, you also gained more support from her, as well as better buy-in going forward, when it comes to getting more toys (nah, I meant work equipment) approved and paid for!!! The growth and quality of your content has come a long way - Robbie, Demri, and team should all be proud!!!

A cordless heat gun would be a nice addition to the winter recovery kit. Fast deicing for anything but the glass.
A couple ribs of angle iron on your hoods would make steerable skis. Alignment wouldn't be great, but better than steering by hope.

She reminds me of my wife running my shop 40 years ago! The electricians used to call her 'HON'...short for 'Head Office Nagger'...she would 'Nag' my foremen crazy for their daily job reports until they finally caved in and did all their paperwork!
How petty does a person have to be to try to complain about moving a little snow off the road while helping out people? Some folks just do not live in a realistic world.

I know it's already been answered the smoke or steam ...well on a hot day when driving down a long stretch of lonely highway the sun hits the road 100 yards or more in front of your car, and it appears to be wet,but when you get to that spot it's not,but again about 100more yards it's the same thing and if you look real close you can see the heat waves just rising up from the highway it's a cool thing to see,but I bet not many people even notice this... It's not smoke nor steam just pure heat🌞🌞🌞

Kudos to Demri (the boss) for stepping up and driving the track loader down the mountain.
I was just riding on that mountain yesterday, and I rode through where the Forklift, Blazer, and Heavy D had struggled with the recoveries. The road is wider than usual, but it's much smoother after being groomed. Thanks for taking the time to "fix" the snow. We have another storm coming in this weekend adding another foot. No harm, no foul.
For sure steam is not smoke, smoke is little dust/ash particles that comes from burning stuff, steam is watervapor that is only visible if the air it is in is too cold for it to disolve into the air. Smoke will be visible smoke even in very warm air or cold air.

oh yes, the trick with skis always works! that's how they deliver most of supplies to south pole! should have been used for cherrypicker, would have been much much easier work. Good job Layton team!

Smoke is Carbon particles in the air you can see so steam is not smoke. Steam is just tiny vaporized water particles and if you heat steam hot enough the particles will shrink down to where you can even see them aka superheated steam

steam is water that is heated until it evaporates and changes it molecular structure. Solid=ice, liquid=water, vapor=steam, smoke is mostly carbon (soot)

Robby is right on the steam / smoke discussion, smoke is a chemical reaction that doesn't always include water or a liquid. Steam ALWAYS includes a liquid into a vapor.
And Real Steam is not visible until it starts to condense ... then You see the Vapor Cloud.

Steam: The vapour into which water is converted when heated.
In popular language, applied to the visible vapour which floats in the air in the form of a white cloud or mist, and which consists of minute globules or vesicles of liquid water suspended in a mixture of gaseous water and air. (Also sometimes applied to the vapour arising from other liquids when heated.)
In modern scientific and technical language, [the word "steam" is] applied only to water in the form of an invisible gas. The invisible ‘steam’, in the modern scientific sense, is, when its temperature is lowered, converted into the white vapour called ‘steam’ in popular language, and this under continued cooling, becomes ‘water’ in the liquid form. dry steam, in Steam-engine working, steam containing no suspended vesicles of water: opposed to wet steam.
People that are talking smack and complaining are only doing so because they are jealous of you and everything you got going on. You have a good channel and love watching your videos. You all are great!
Technically, what we see as steam (coming out of a boiling kettle, for example) is tiny droplets of liquid water. Water vapour (that is, water in the gaseous state) is transparent.
However, we don't need water to be at its boiling point for us to see steam. If you go outside on a cold day, you can usually see your breath steaming. That's exactly the same phenomenon as seeing steam from a kettle. If you spend any time around cows in cold weather, you'll probably see their droppings steaming too. No fire involved, but there *is* a temperature difference, which is what's important here. Water evaporates from the warmer surface (whether that's the inside of a kettle, our lungs, or a fresh cow pat) and then condenses into small droplets when it encounters the cooler air.
Smoke is actually a type of steam. When something is burning (or just really hot without being on fire), various chemical substances within that something evaporate and then condense when they encounter the cooler air. Smoke is distinct from steam, though, because what it condenses into can include very small solid particles. If you look at cigarette smoke through a microscope, you may be able to see the solid particles moving and jiggling about as they're jostled by air molecules. (This random movement is known as Brownian motion.)
The substances that evaporate to form smoke are not necessarily transparent and, unless what you're burning is very pure, will contain a mixture of many different substances. Very often, smoke from a fire is itself flammable, which can cause such things as a flashover in fires inside buildings.
So, Hillbilly was wrong; Robbie was kind-of right; but the situation is a lot more complicated than you might think.

@@lucyfiesta Just remember to bring Ford hoods if you are going to recover a Ford and Chevy hoods if you are going to recover a Chevy. They are not cross-compatible. 😁
And if it's a Subaru, don't bring any hoods as they never get stuck. 😉

Smoke is the gas given off when something burns. Definition of burning being some material / chemical components reacting with oxygen and giving off heat. The burning converts whatever is burning to some sort of oxide of the material such as carbon dioxide. The smoke is often unburnt material, such as a smoky diesel. Steam is the 'valor phase' of H2O. H20 can be ice, liquid or vapor phase depending on it's temperature and pressures.
The whole time, the snow on the roof of the blazer was the one thing that kept looking wrong to me.
Nice recovery! As always enjoyed watching you videos. I have one question though. Where has Dinner been? It seems like when you started doing the videos on the Bronc star he hasn't been in the videos only a couple of times and then just briefly. I hope he is doing OK and not ill or something.

Simple Hillbilly logic. Where there is smoke, there is fire. There is no fire so it is not smoke. You can trap steam, turn it into water and back into ice. You can trap smoke but you cannot turn it back into what it was. Steam and smoke are not the same.
Steam is not smoke and the Boss rocked in the skid steer.
Those skis are a good improvisation. In the future you should add blades on the bottom to help you steer.

I'm new to this channel, but I have to say that you guys are amazing. It's great to see people working together as a team. Way to go, Robby, in improvising skis for under the front of the Blazer. And ..way to go, Demri, in learning how to drive the skid steer. You did awesome. Especially in finding the "Rabbit Mode". Hillbilly, you did great, as well. But I'm not sure about your theory that steam is a form of smoke. I think you're a bit cloudy on that one. Robby, continue to work on this guy and set him straight. Stay safe y'all.
