- We're back with the third episode of Plagiarism in bollywood music. Here are few more bollywood songs composed by Anu Malik which were apparently copied or lifted from! :)
sometimes, while listening to a bollywood song, have you ever felt that you might have heard this tune earlier? and then find out that this was copied from that source?
well, we have compiled some of the music from old songs to the newest in various parts!

In Bawarchi ( a Hindi remake of a Bengali movie ) there is a joke where one of the brothers is a composer of film music, he pretends to think hard for inspiration but really he is siting in his room listening to foreign music and lifting the tunes from there which the main protagonist makes a remark about.
The movie is from 1972 so I suspect it was an “open secret” that tunes was stolen even back then. For the audience to laugh at such a thing there must have been some awareness I think.
But even being aware of this practice it’s disappointing to find out that songs I like and didn’t already know were stolen were in fact stolen. 🙁 I won’t be able to hear “yeh kaali kaali aankhen” again without thinking about that it’s a copy.
Ofcourse, Elvis Presley's song Margareta became a hit in America, but never got the credit for the hit Rafi song Kaun hai Jo sapno mein aaya..... It was 1950's back then.
Yes, even RD Burman use to copy. RD Burman and Rajesh Roshan are way ahead of Anu Malik to copy the songs.
I personally like old Hindi Music and grew up listening to Mohd Rafi and Kishore Da. Bollywood being influenced by global music is not a problem, but not giving credit is. Our public is so straightforward and trusting that they are not aware that our God like music directors, behind closed doors, love to copy tunes from around the world and pass it off as original.
Creating original music is not easy. It can take many months and a lot of trial and error to compose one. Even after that song may flop. Success ratio is less than 10%. But have we wondered how our music directors quickly churn out 80% or 90% hit songs from a single movie in just a few days? You guessed it - by copying! But thanks to TH-cam, it cannot remain hidden for long 😀.
I think there is plenty of talent in India that can create great original music loved by people around the world. However this can happen only after we stop glorifying copied music.

Mann.. Used to love the movie and its music.. and then I found out that not only was the movie a total copy of An Affair to Remember, but apparently each song was a copy as well -____- such originality. much creativity. wow.

I have no problem with copied music/songs as long as the music directors give credit to its original composers...but sadly this isn't the case in Bollywood.
@MrFalcon2001 in your case it's a car which is a physical thing (you can touch and feel)... and someone steals your physical thing you will or I will get easily affected whether they giving us credit or not.....
But however, in this case there is a idea (which is not physically touch and seen) which is "copied" but I will say... it is 'inspired' from this idea to make something new which is quite admirable...
Let me get through an example...
Early Man invented wheel but that idea of wheel (or you can say that wheel) is used to make vehicles, machine and various things...
Can you say that it is a copy...well I can say it is a inspiration...
That how EVOLUTION happen...
We humans can learn something new bu coping others...
So all I can say is the "copied" songs is not basically "copied" it is 'inspired' from the original songs...

But what do we get is SOMETHING NEW...
I feel very angry whenever the producer or director says it is my creation (especially when it comes to copied song) can't they just say... it is INSPIRED from this SONG
At the end they take all the credit and the original creators get not recognise..
So the Rohit is saying that "Coping" (or I can say inspiration) From an IDEA is not a problem but if you can't give the credits to the original creators...and take all the credit....
Then there is a PROBLEM.....

back then the internet wasn't a thing, and Indians never knew that almost all the songs were copied. so our music directors got away with it. and sadly all these songs became huge hits. I loved the song "Raja ko Rani se" since i was a kid...then 8 years ago I saw the godfather and my heart broke.

How does one's ears and heart stop listening and liking a song that is his/her favorite from childhood after knowing that song was copied? Yes, I am totally against copying, and that too without giving credit to original creator, but music is such that whichever version you have listened to for the first time and if your heart and ears have accepted it then you won't be able to like that much to any other version of the same song even if that is original one. Mann movie's all songs were copied, and that's the reason you won't see much notable music of Sanjeev Darshan...but nobody can take the credit away that songs were well copied and you listen to them today as well.

Why do people hear raja ko rani se in the godfather theme. There's another song that clearly ripped it off completely.
Its "Tum kya jaano dil karta tumse kitna pyaar".
Also a part of the theme has been used in a song of Munna Bhai MBBS.
Mann Music Director was Sanjeev Dharshan. It was their first film. Also the song from Poonam ' Ae Mera Humnaseen' was composed by Anu Malik himself so basically he re- used his own tunes for Kareeb and Fiza. Although the Kaali Kaali ankhen song other source rather than Dean Martin was a new for me.
Funny thing is how can Sanjeev Darshan launch make debut with plagiarised songs.
they could have used their father's (Shravans)(Nadeem Shravan fame) songs and they would have still been hits

i love both the tracks from kareeb and fiza. great songs, so i got hurt that these are copied songs . i have great respect who create something extraordinary and both songs are great. i searched the hamnasheen song and got relieved because anu malik has also composed the hamnasheen song. though great work man.

These two guys Sanjeev-Darshan received a lot of appreciation for their work in MANN movie. It was only after a while most of us realized what a pair of conmen these two were. Did not create a single composition of their own, the whole bloody album was plagiarized. Had this been done today, people would have called out their bluff right away.

Guys for all the Anu Malik haters out there... True, he has lifted tunes for all the songs mentioned here ... 100% true... However,, there are literally 100's of other original chartbusters he has scored which are original...and as diverse as chalk and cheese. Think Border, think Refugee...think Asoka, think Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee... think of the recent Begum Jaan or the Dum Laga ke Haisha... Think of fast songs which are not inspired.. and you get a lot of foot-tapping numbers from Ishq, No Entry, Baadshah, Josh, and so many others....You want to pick on a man.. sure go ahead... but also then showcase the good stuff as well.. From the great R.D.Burman to the revered A.R. Rehman, EVERY indian composer has been inspired... Anu Malik is no different... but Anu also has given plenty of original gems... which sadly go unnoticed. The guy won a national award for Refugee.... Tell me if "panchi nadiyan" was copied...

You are quote a pioneer I think in this, people noticed the plagiarism of the Israeli Anthem only recently, probably during the last Olympic games.....however I Made 2 observations myself:
1.the song Aa Zara mere Humnasheen was from Poonam ( 1981) , which was composed by Anu Malik himself, it was probably one of his earliest films, hence we can say he just rehashed his own tune and not plagiarized it
2. Another striking observation was that the Dean Martin song O brother pour the wine had notes strikingly similar to the Snehal Bhatkar composition " Lehron Pe Leher " from Chhabili released in 1960....as per internet, the Dean Martin song was part of a compilation released in 1964, but whether it was released as single before that, I have no idea

Hi, love your work. I know it's a tough ask but can you do a video on the great ARR? I know his work is really good but even some of his compositions or part of songs were copied from other artists, for example Muqabala end music was lifted from Meta Ulla Eh song of Dr. Alban and Mayya song from Guru's flute tune part was copied from Safri Duo. O Jana from Duniya Dilwalon Ki was copied from Engima. I am sure you would find more.

You missed one major plagarised song which is JANE JANA from the movie Murder. It was copied from the start to the end from a popular Bangladeshi rock song 'PHIRIYE DAO' by Miles. They sued Anu Malik back in '05/06 probably & got huge compensation.

Mann Music Director was Sanjeev Dharshan. It was their first film. Also the song from Poonam ' Ae Mera Humnaseen' was composed by Anu Malik himself so basically he re- used his own tunes for Kareeb and Fiza.
