  • Almost two decades ago, in September 1996, my family and I flew all the way from South Korea to visit the Black Sea island of Nessebar in Bulgaria. How could I then miss the opportunity to sample life onboard on Balkan's Antonov 24s, which were disappearing at alarming speed in Eastern Europe ?
    There were more surprises on this visit, than I have expected.
    Yet, my brand new SHARP camera broke down frequently, not to mention the batteries. This camera was the first generation of video cameras with digital recording. Obviously the digital recording technology 18 years ago was still at an experimental stage. The video head got worn out immediately. After a few seconds the camera turned hot and taping was interrupted, especially during the most important phases of taping : Take off and landing. Eighteen years later, I tried to assemble the fractions of this puzzle of video fragments as best as I could.
    This is the result.
    Nevertheless, owing to its historic nature, I decided to go public. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.
    This documentary features the fourth flight of seven on this visit, continuing on the second IL18 leg from Varna to Sofia.
    Enjoy the Sights & Sounds of Classic Aviation.
    Thanks for watching.

    + for which, the Soviet IL - 18 became the favorite passenger plane of my life. The video is after 6:49 and 7:23 seconds before takeoff. And watch the 40:53 engine sound after landing. I like it fantastically.

      И мне этот самолёт нравится. Никогда не летал на нём, но в детстве постоянно видел его в небе.

    Another very beautiful video, with classic aircraft, and with a lot of information in the details of your text. Thank you.

      The low pitched drone and vibration, heard inside of the cabin of a turboprop airliner is produced by the props, not the engines. The engines themselves are jet engines with propellers attached.

    It sounds as if she could use thicker cabin insulation to muffle the loud drone, which is produced by the props, not the engines. The engines themselves are turbojet engines with propellers attached. Many think that a turboprop engine is a turbocharged piston engine like that of a Porsche. I would guess that on this particular flight, especially when climbing, there must have been a head wind. I would guess that that would create a louder drone than if there is a tail wind. The props produce the loudest drone when there is lots resistance on the props.
    When I lived in Ithaca NY for twelve years, I used to fly in in out of Ithaca on US Airways Expresse's regional turboprop airliners. The loudest turboprop I think I've flown on was the Shorts 360, distinctive for it's square fuselage. The quietest was the ATR-42, which my longtime girlfriend Harris liked to call the "Whisperprop".

    + amiért életem , legkedvesebb utasszállító repülőgépjévé vált a Szovjet IL - 18 as . A videó 6:49 utáni és a 7:23 másodpercek felszállás előtt . És leszállást követő 40:53 hajtóműhangot figyeld . Fantasztikusan tetszik .

    Is it as loud as it sounds? It is deafening. Could you hold a conversation while flying in this err, aircraft?

    • @taketimeout2share
      @taketimeout2share 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. I have been led to believe that the TU 144/ Bear was so incredibly loud that it makes ground staff physically sick. The flight crew suffer too on long flights. I know this is not the same plane but this is the most successful Russian plane as far as exports outside the USSR but who the hell would want to fly in one? Its a joke, which is a shame as they look nice. I used to like these but now I know better.
