Thank you for your work. 3 years after this video, I wanted to let you know, and all the people that watches this video that your advices are still relevant for this application. I made it to the second step now and must go to my ambassy to do languages examinations in both Japanese and English. I hope I can do great there.

I want to ask a question about methodology. How specific should we write in methodology? Sometimes the research plan may change during the study, how to open opportunity as much as possible and avoid rejection from supervisor because they don't have skill in our planed methodology?

Hi Azalia! Thank you very much for your suggestions. This is by far the best video I have seen regarding the MEXT research plan format. However, I am a little bit concern about the length. Mine has 4 pages. The last two pages are for project planning (a table) and the list of references. Do you think is it too long for MEXT requirements? Thanks in advance for your help and time. Yes, page length was also an issue for me back then. For Malaysian applicants we were limited to only 3 pages, so do check if your embassy has specific page limits as well. For me, I cut out alot of my references. For the table planning, if possible it does not need to be too specific as well (if that is taking up the space). Hope this helps

One question just to finish my draft. The ≪Guide for Creating a Field of Study and Research Plan Sheet/作成要領≫ bubble, that appears in the Field of Study and Research Plan doc, can I erase it or should I leave it there and narrow even more my draft? I have my 2 pages ready but don´t know if I can touch and erase those guides to expand my draft correctly, especially now that they ask us to send everything digitally. Hope you can answer me. Thank you for making this kind of video.
Hello. I'm not really sure to be honest, bt probably should not edit the boxes in the provided forms etc. If you have to then add the additional papers permitted bt otherwise try and fit in where you can. Hope this helps.
hi i m considering for applying in MEXT as a research student in clinical psychology , i just want to know is Japanese's language required for that field
I have a question..
Does our research have to be related to an issue in Japan or an issue that includes Japan ? (Since its a Japanese scholarship)... for example I'm a business student from the pacific and would like to conduct research on specific international business relationship between Japan and the Pacific... I'm just wondering if that's okay or should I centralize the entire research to a specific topic regarding Japan.
In my opinion, the issue should be inclusive of Japan. Doesn't have to be centralized on Japan only, bt highlight how the research can help benefit the country etc. This will help when they ask why you want to study there in the first place and help your chances abit.
really helpful video, thank you! I got a question left: isnt it, that research plans are planed with your supervisor? So when you wrote your research plan and you'll be accepted and you apply to different universities, they all will have different research ideas, isnt it? What happens if you cant hold your planning at the end of the scholarship?
The end product of your reseaech doesnt necessarily have to follow your original proposal. As long as you graduate, its fine. Husband changed his topic 3 times? And supervisors too in his 2nd year. Wasn't an issue

Your references are mainly for the literature mentioned in the Objective part. You will need some literature to support your statement of problem.
If Professor is agree to accept you in his lab how much chances you have that you will get MEXT scholarship?
Thanks a lot for the informative video. I have a question regarding the length of the research plan.
In the document it is mentioned: "This sheet must be created within two pages. Additional materials may be attached if necessary. Both a single-side and dual-side printing will be acceptable." and there is no mention of only 3-page attachment being allowed.
So do you suggest to attach a more detailed version of the proposal/research plan, which can reach up to 15 pages for example?
The 3 page attachment guideline is for applications in Malaysia, so it might be varied according to each country. I do not reccomend however attaching a 15 paged proposal as it might be too long for the committee to go through considering the number of applications they have to review. As always, keep ot short and simple. Hope this helps
@@ayziezaha Thanks again for the great help. The embassy in my country asks to download the documents from MEXT website itself, and it seems this year, the 2-page rule is a new addition.
Thank you for the video. Question: Is it supposed that this proposal will be what you will actually be doing during your PhD or is it just an evaluation of your capacities? I mean, it is hard for me to imagine designing my PhD research without even knowing my advisor in person and without real research experience in the field. Thank you.
From my experience, the proposal will definitely change here and there according to your program and SV. I agree that it is to evaluate how much thought you have put into your research, and also for potential SVs to see if it is something they are also interested in as well.
@@ayziezaha so the answer is almost yes, your actual reaserch field will be based on that proposal, you cannot change topic once you are in, right? (by the way thank you for answering so soon!)
@@Gargoloso from me and my husband's experience, whether you can change it or not after enrollment is up to you and your supervisor (sv). Everything is up to them from that point onwards and MEXT won't interfere. My husband even changed his sv after enrolling because he wanted to do a different topic (after plentiful discussions). As long as you can talk it out with your sv then it is still flexible in my opinion.

what if we want to do research in a completely different field than the research project we did during our undergraduate study?
I think it's acceptable as long you have reasonable reasons for your plan

Yes. If I'm not mistaken you can attach up to a maximum of 3 additional sheets

You will need to develop your own research plan to fill out the form provided by MEXT

@@imen4359 in my opinion, it should be similiar/near enough to the programs offered by the university you wish to go to

For the Malaysian embassy recommendation they only allow max of 3 pages

According to the guidelines of the Malaysian embassy recommendation, it should be related to some extent. Not sure about other countries but hope this helps

A maximum of 3 to 4 should be enough in my opinion

I had a doubt related to placement application form
Actually I have given only one preference bcoz I only wanted to work in dat uni and I have already got my acceptance letter but during interview he enquired why didnt mention any other preferences...will that be a major deciding criteria
I think this should be fine. As long as you have one acceptance letter, they shouldn't really argue about it in my opinion.

Hi. I have a degree in electrical engineering, but I want to continue master degree in something related to environmental engineering. Should I submit an application for the environmental engineering or must something relates to electrical engineering?. Hopefully you can answer my question. Thank you
Not well versed for engineering subjects bt if you can co-relate it back to your degree, might be better. Or have a strong justification to what you arw doing now and hownit relates to what you want to do. Hope this helps

As stated in the video, just a short compressed ver of lit review is enough. I put in under objectives. Hope this helps
