There's nothing wrong with stopping at $100,000 if you, as the captain, don't like the category. You're playing a game for money. It's better to win $20,000 than be terminated with $0 or leave with $0. It's a mechanic of the game for a reason. If I get a category I don't like and know I won't be good at, I'll happily take the ball and run. That being said I feel good about most categories, but you never know.
Try explaining that to Carra's team from the previous episode and Jonathan Brownley's team (or whatever his name is; his team's appearance was in the same episode Dan Avila went for $2.2 million and lost). The sitting contestants of both teams looked super angry with their captains for stopping before $200,000 because to their defense that's actually where the game gets interesting. There was actually one more team much later in the show's run that quit at $100,000 and that was the third college rivalry team. Interestingly they didn't seem to mind stopping at $100K because college kids are generally broke. Besides given the lackluster performance of the two teams before them, them stopping at $100k was excusable.
@@hiltonlive32grnrngr They don't have to like it, but they weren't complaining when the check came in the mail. @@AA-dd3we Fair enough. I can respect that but even in getting the check there's still the dissatisfaction that they could've won so much more. I mean, I'm not entirely disagreeing with you because I can understand not knowing the category and at the end of the day taking home $20,000 (as part of a team's $100,000 pot) pre taxes is better than not getting anything at all but I still wouldn't want you as my team captain. I mean, no offense. It's nothing personal. It's just that as a contestant I would want to play to at least the $200,000 level.
Joe = worst captain ever (even worse that the blonde lady who didn't know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner)? I don't think any other team has ever had 2 wrong answers on the first multiple choice (4 out of 6) question? It's happened a few times on the second multiple choice question (4 out of 7) - questions on the Smithsonian Museum of American History and Barbie. Joe made quite a few fatal errors - not using the freebie, not looking at his teammates after saying John Candy (as a Canadian, that was the most obvious wrong answer - Candy repeatedly turned down offers to join SNL out of loyalty to fellow SCTV cast members - a comedy troupe based out of Toronto), and changing a correct answer to an incorrect one. 4:39 -- all three of his teammates were visibly upset after Joe said John Candy, but even if Joe had caught this cue, he probably would have changed Candy to Michael Richards. He finally looked around at his teammates after locking in Michael Richards and I like to think that he (finally) got the hint that something was very wrong. If the captain has no idea for the first multiple choice question (as was the case with Pepperidge Farm cookie question), use the freebie and pay attention to the reaction of your teammates. In that instance, the captain used the freebie, which guarantees that no matter what, you'll have at least 3 out of 4 and a chance to bail with the money presented by Chuck (as was the case with the Pepperidge Farms question). Here Joe just totally torpedoed his team - I think Joe's teammates would vehemently disagree with Chuck proclamation at 1:21 of Joe being a "great captain" lol.
Bad captain for sure but far from worst. Saved the team at the $100K question, so Jerry can thank him for his terminator money. I wouldn't even say the star-spangled captain was the worst either. She was given 4/4 correct answers pre-$200K but even by saying "I accept" 4 times, she was better than other captains who changed right answers to wrong answers or accepted wrong answers, causing the team to win absolutely nothing. My worst captain ever is a tie between the infamous $25K Chuck Woolery question loss and the captain who changed the right answer to a wrong answer on the $50K Eugene Cernan question.
Actually Micki (the SSB fail captain) was worse than Joe. At least Joe saved his team on the $100,000 question. True, his team lost on $200,000 with two missed answers but to be fair, his team's question about SNL wasn't as easy as the SSB lyrics question. Edit: Plus at least Joe knew to change an answer. Micki accepted her teammates' correct answers to $100k and gave a wrong answer that cost her team the $200,000.
There was at least one other instance on the $200K question of two wrong answers being locked in. If I remember right, it was on the biggest wedding costs. I don’t remember what the other wrong answer was, but one of them was wedding gown. Also happened a couple other times at $500K - you’re right about the Smithsonian and Barbie questions. It also happened regarding celebrities born the same year as Bill Clinton, as well as on automakers with the highest revenue.
@@prestonmackey498 There was also a team that lost on $500k with 2 missed answers about celebrities who were celebrating their 50th birthday in 2000... and not to give anything away but one lady on that team was lucky enough to have the Terminator land on her both times it hit. She took the first challenge but rejected the second one. I wonder if she regretted that decision knowing she could've taken home at least $20,000.

I'm actually suspicious that maybe Todd was a kamikaze candidate in that they didn't have enough contestants on set, so they got him to go out there to have a full slate of 6 contestants for the qualifying question and have him throw the question. Or maybe this was filmed before the first batch of questions aired on this show and something went wrong with the qualifying process (maybe he was one of the 5 closest and somebody screwed up).
I think it might've been due to a production error or they didn't have enough new contestants at the time and had Todd come back as a spot filler and had him throw the question on purpose like another user suggested. Something similar happened in the TV trivia episode, and that's why two repeat contestants showed up on the last team.
Can't help but speculate that under normal circumstances they would have left one of the unsure answers as the final reveal for David to battle over. Because they were a return team under the stigma of having departed once as a "losing" team, they cut David some slack.
If the 3 eliminated teams had used the freebie on $200000, I bet Michael Richards, Best Buy, & Hotel Reservations would have all been removed and at least 2 teams win.

When he changed the answer to Michael Richards, the felt defeated. The knew they weren’t even going to have the $20,000 buyout. Could you imagine Cosmo as a character on SNL?
I wish contestants lost 3/4ths of their current prize instead of everything, which includes terminator losers. Imagine Dan Avila going home with $50k after gambling his $200k to go for $2.2 million. Watching those poor teamates around 4:47 watching their leader put in a 2nd wrong answer was frustrating to watch.
I know lol, K.T. had a death stare the whole time.

If I'm the captain and the category sucks for me - idk, Superhero Films or Physics are things I'd be bad at -- I'm taking the ball and going home. People got angry when they got Terminated, too.
49:55 This news even relates today, wow.
Steve and Bruce ended up on the tournament of losers
Chris may have been counting the number of presidents besides Clinton.
Nobody is a worse captain than her! That mistake was inexcusable. That'd be like having to choose 4 fruits out of 6, and choosing TACOS as an answer.
Didn't realize it's a FOX broadcast I guess. I'll upload it on my channel if that's okay. Do December 10th, 1999 which is episode 8.

Oh Chuck! You should have stayed with the other gig.
42:28 Todd was just on the first team earlier in the episode. Why did he return? Very odd.
Maybe, he was disadvantaged by a bad question, and came back, only to be eliminated in the Qualifying Question. I'm not sure.
Or that, and I just didn't think of it.
Kmart and Sears are about dead now

6 Time Jeopardy Champion Steve Unite Christmas Day Monday 2006.
If the 3 eliminated teams had used the freebie on $200000, I bet Michael Richards, Best Buy, & Hotel Reservations would have all been removed and at least 2 teams win.
That's exactly what I was thinking too.
Even if that was the case, all the teams had Weak Captains.
So, wait, how were you able to get all these episodes of Greed from Chuck Donegan? As great as it is, I want to know. I know you gave credit to Chuck Donegan, but did you trade to him with something else? Because, he does require another show that you have to have in your collection.
I just asked him and he gave it to me earlier in the year.
@@lawandorder888 Wow. Really? You could just ask him the shows you'd like to see and you'll get the ones you want? That is amazing. Color me surprised.
Even Chuck Donegan has episodes of the World Series of Blackjack from 2006, Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes, Celebrity Blackjack and a little bit of That's the Question. I know you can't get those shows especially since your channel does only the FOX series Greed, but I want to get episodes of those shows from GSN.
@@movietv20249 no guarantees though but I can ask him if he can lend me those shows you mentioned above.
@@lawandorder888 I should at least try to trade something with him before we do that. I'm not ready yet. Also, I keep forgetting to mention if you and he can lend GSN's Russian Roulette too. I'll let you know when I'm ready for everything.
However, I plan to do a series called GSN Vault soon which will be on my other channel. And what this series is is shows from GSN that are all from the 2000s, which game shows won't be just included but the blackjack and poker stuff too that GSN aired. Each video of this series will be between roughly 3 to 5 hours.
Also, I really am starting to worry about the other game show trader, Ryan Rinkerman, because he has not been active on his trading website for quite some time.
@@movietv20249im not quite sure about Ryan Rinkerman. I hope hes okay or something.

How did that happen? He made it past the qualifying question and there were no irregularities that they had to bring him back. David and his team, however….

I knew they blew the SNL question when Capt. Idiot chose John Candy. He only hosted SNL.
Joe shouldnt have chosen John Candy and shouldnt have switched robert downey jr to michael richards. Michael Richards wasnt a regular on snl
The first team looked upset when Joe messed up
cool
38:01 are you kidding me
This will shock you even more. I looked up the 1999 Fortune 500 List online and I found out that Best Buy was ranked #195 of the highest income companies of that year!
GAP was #174
WAL-MART was #3
K-Mart was #21
J.C. Penney was #31
Sears-Roebuck was #15
I know what you mean
4:43 Ugh they know he's wrong...
I mean, while it's still a disappointing loss, it's a whole lot better than making it so far only to have nothing.
38:01
The 3rd $200,000 question on popular stores was another shocker to me my answers to that one were
1. Walmart
2. Kmart
3. JC Penny
4. Best Buy
I was so surprised that Best Buy was wrong I never would’ve guessed sears roebuck and I thought the gap would’ve been another right answer but what a shocker
Actually, I knew that Best Buy was wrong. Circuit City was its biggest competitor back then. And Sears was very big back then. I had the same answers as them.
@@robbyosborne9708 oh wow I did know that I knew sears was huge back in the day but I didn’t the roebuck of sears was huge I wish I knew more about shopping back then thanks again bro
Well I think KMart is gone now. I wonder if Best Buy is ranked higher now? Target is probably ranked among the top 4 now.
Shows you how much things have changed in the past 20 years. 3 of the choices (JC Penney, Sears Roebuck, and K-Mart) are all bankrupt, and GAP (along with Best Buy, to a certain extent) aren't so hot right now. Wal-mart is the only one that's still in the top 4 (in fact it's far and away the top retailer in the USA in terms of sales, ahead of Amazon, Costco and Home Depot in 2021).

I can tell Bruce knew that it was software over hotel reservations I can even tell he wasn’t upset at all after losing I can tell Gina and grace were upset that they lost even though Gina gave a wrong answer which was videos and then Steve changed it to hotel reservations which I was a little surprised that was another wrong answer but at least Bruce wasn’t upset he knew Steve tried his best and I gotta give Steve credit he did do good and saved the team twice but he did tried on the $200,000 level but not quite good try though Steve

I wished Thad’s team would’ve thought about Convenience instead of Volume, like Best Buy. Though, I can’t blame him entirely, since Christy wasn’t any better either, thinking that a Clothing Store alone would have the most revenue. Regardless, they were doomed when they chose those answers, and should’ve bailed at $20K. Also, had they used the Freebie, they would’ve had a better chance, and it might have removed Best Buy or GAP.

All kinds of failure in this episode: first double wrong answer, then a double wrong answer with a change that doesn’t end well, & change wrong answer to wrong answer. At least one team walked with $200000 unlike other shows when only terminator money with no pending big payouts took place.
The double wrong happened due to a bad change.
I honestly didn’t think of software.
