I love your writing. It sets you apart by a mile. There is so little insight given about this weird passion by other TH-camrs. Bought the same watch and your text hit perfectly.

I kinda get it. I recently have an obsession with the Cartier Tank but also with the JLC Reverso. I would love to own something that combines the two in one watch and I might have found it in the Seiko Dolce 1220-5120 from the 80s. I ordered one on eBay in great condition and it should arrive tomorow. Very stoked to see if it suits my wrist.
In reality small rectangular men's watches similar to the Tank were THE standard format from the 1920s 30s 40s well into the 50s. To claim that Cartier came up with it is a bit much. It's like claiming Rolex invented round watches.

An important point for me is that you can leave a mechanical watch in a drawer for years without serious consquences, but i cannot say the same for a quartz watch if you forget to remove the battery :) I fucked up my 18th birtday watch in this way :)
Planning on picking up this watch (if available) for my birthday after sitting on the fence for 2 years.
I got recommended this video by the TH-cam algorithm after I started to look at Cartier watches. I got a glimpse of your face in this video, and you have exactly the sort of face I would expect someone to have when they’re the sort to make a useless inconsequential video like this one.
How timely that you uploaded this the same day I got my new Tank Must and was thinking the same thing 😂
That, Evan, is the right question.
In reality small rectangular men's watches similar to the Tank were THE standard format from the 1920s 30s 40s well into the 50s. To claim that Cartier came up with it is a bit much. It's like claiming Rolex invented round watches.
