There is a lot of charm in these classic sci fi movies, nowadays giant mutant animals movies are made as jokes and in a silly way, but back in the day they took it seriously and made with care and attention, the performances and special effects of this one are great and is cool to see appreciation for it to this day

James Cameron's "Aliens" is essentially a modern remake of "Them!". even right down to the little girl who's parents were killed by the monsters but she managed to survive.

    HELL YEAH!
It's not everyday you guys review a classic black and white horror film! This film started everything! It always goes back to the classics! Sadly new audiences wouldn't want to watch black and white films. These kinds of films were made with love and care! And it really goes to show you, black and white films like these are more time spent with love and care, instead of the crap we get today with low budget cheap and none caring industry of Hollywood these days. Them! Is one of a kind! A MUST WATCH!

Great stuff! I love these old classic movies. Some are good just for the cheese and how bad they are but theres a lot that are absolutely brilliant, like this one. One of my faves from this era is 'Night of the Demon', fantastic.

I love these films from this decade. THEM, TARANTULA, BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, and of course GODZILLA. Such a great review and I hope you look into others of this genre as well. Can you imagine if this movie had been redone in the 80s with so many special effects talents at our disposal? I wonder who would give us that 80's gorefest.

THEM! Excellent! Have a good one, Shelfers!
    The Wasteland Shelfer (p.7)
Sardine the bear jangles Shelfer's keys, nodding towards the women and children survivors of Trader's Bluff who now approach the pair slowly, unsure of themselves. "We only ask one more favour!" shouts, who seems to be the leader of the group, "I know!" replies Shelfer.
Sardine slots Shelfer's keys back into his battle buggy and runs off, knowing the sight of a grizzly bear may not put the traumatised group at ease. Shelfer knows Sardine will be watching and listening at a distance, so better stick to his word. "We will head where the sun rises, I know of a settlement, you can regroup there." Shelfer instructs the leader, knowing there's something else. Leader replying "We know the settlement you mean, we are... were traders. We need someone who knows how to handle the crator-critters who nest at the pass". "Yep, I know, we leave in 15 ticks" shelfer instructs as a little girl is inspecting the battle buggy. Shelfer sits on the sandy floor, back to buggy, and starts up his viewing device with its penny sized satellite dish whirling on top. On the screen plays Gary and Iain reviewing Hellraiser Judgement from a time before the nuclear wastelands formed. The group astonished, sit and surround our Wasteland Shelfer, all watching the show. Meanwhile Sardine lays on his back and picks his giant teeth with his massive claws, clearing out the last pieces of Raider meat from his dinner.

If you want more flamethrower carnage, one of these days you need to suffer through Irwin Allen's _The Swarm._ Given the script's radical departure from the once-respected novel (which ends on a note closer to Hitchcock's _The Birds_ than the sort of blow-stuff-up finale Allen preferred), Allen really had no idea how to end the movie, and I think he and screenwriter Stirling Silliphant just watched B-movies (ha) until they settled on something to ape. A small team of soldiers armed with flamethrowers is nonsensically sent out to burn a killer-bee-conquered Houston to the ground, which I'd swear they copped from _Them!_ The plan goes even worse than you might think before the film swipes its climax straight out of Bert I. Gordon's _Beginning of the End_ only with equally-nonsensical missile explosions, and throughout the entire mess we get Molotov cocktails, burning toy trains, and a nuclear meltdown. Also, the bees' stings universally induce hallucinations of giant bees. It's _insane_ and I love it.

To me, these movies ooze the American bravado of the time. Their strong, competent authority figures that will swiftly and promptly handle any threat posed by outside forces. It's a very post World War 2 American sentiment going on that didn't go away until the diasater of Vietnam and rise of the next generation. When you watch 80s horror, the authorities are always either: secretly evil, grossly incompetent, or unreliable. For movies made by children of the 60s, it isn't hard to wonder why they'd feel that way.
