I used to own a used car lot back in the 60's so I sold many brands of these fine automobile's. the gas filler was also located in about the same place on the 57 Chevys it was a cost factor in regards to moving it not a safety issue at that time. Some cars had the filler behind the rear drop down license plate that was spring loaded one would just pull the top of the plate down and when released the springs pulled it back up in place. Nice video's keep them coming. Cheers & Thank You
The CBS, cars of the 50's confort, beauty, and style, I drove a 1956 Belair two tone it was baby blue and white, it was a chick magnet, lots of good memories, from my high school days. Weekends was crusin down Whittier Bld the good old days, when we had regular gas for 28 cents, not a rip off like now days!!!!!
Some Cadillacs had the same type of hidden filler...48-56 I believe. The reason they quit using them is because they decided it was dangerous to have the filler tube facing the rear of the car. In a collision it could be rammed into the tank, breaking the filler tube, causing fuel to pour out instantly.
Slick car,and put back the way it can from the factory, nice. How many cars still have the correct generator/power steering pump in them, well that is the first one I have seen to date
There must have been something bad about having the gas filler under a tail light. Isn't this the only car to do so, and wasn't it just the 56 model year? I think it's a good idea, but it must have caused some issue.
Theoretically, yes, but a car like this is too nice to use as a DD. If you want a classic DD, i'd get a four door. They're cheaper and don't have to be show-perfect, and they can still be modified same as two door cars. I have a tudor 1955 210 with a 350 as a show piece, and my DD is a 1966 Bel air four door with a 327 and powerglide
Devan Driggers I would put a TH350 in it if the powerglide was in bad shape. Better for the 327 torque curve, less leaky. I'd like to keep it all original though. It's a survivor. Found it after it had been stored since the mid 80s. Not nice enough for car shows, but I've had few problems driving it every day. I might buy something else for a dd now though because the gas is killing me, and then i can restore it.

Actually it is 104,061 miles on the odometer, since when the odometer goes from 99,999.9 to back to zeroes, it will became 100,000 miles has been driven, so there is no "1" afront of the zero.

***** I was talking about my car, which is a 1966 Bel air sedan, and has a 327 and Powerglide. Not the car in the video.
