Well, "under the Spanish sun" is relative. Spain has 4 climatic regions, there is no eternal sun in the sky. In summer it can be very hot in the south and cold in winter, in the north, rain, even in summer, is common, and winters can be very cold, even with snow. Many foreigners believe that Spain is basically a beach with sun, and it is not. Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe, and the second with the most forests. It has a geographical, climatic, cultural and historical variety that makes it unique in Europe. Greetings.
Haha yes just like Australia people assume it’s always warm… but the name has a nice ring to it and the sun is far more consistent in spring and summer so we thought it made sense for us.
Haha yes that’s one of the first things we learned about the area. And yes cold in the mountains but luckily only during winter. We have had many point this out but what people doesn’t realised about where we are from (Melbourne, Australia) it gets cold almost every day even in summer which we absolutely hated. So Spain is a much better place in regards to weather.
@@underelspanishsun This can sound weird to someone from Australia but Spain, being so small, is very diverse climate-wise. Spain 's Atlantic coastline is actually longer than the Mediterranean one. It can get very cold and very wet in Spain
Loved the video and information Jasmine - keep them coming. I hope (and believe) you are both enjoying living in Spain now. Looking forward to seeing more of your daily life in Montefrio.
Great stuff Jasmine, quite a thorough list, I’d strongly urge anyone to do their research before fully committing to the move, consider a trial period to acclimatise yourself 👏🏾🥰🍷
Thank you Paul! That is perfect advice for people haha we are a very weird couple who decided everything without even ever have visited Spain haha so definitely as was said in the video.. everything with a grain of salt. And everyone’s situation is so vastly different which is why I packed in as much as I could so at least there could be something in here for everyone. To all who are thinking of moving.. wishing you the best of luck!
Certainly when moving to a place other than Aus / NZ - take your pets as excess baggage. When we lived in HK and moved back to Aus, we used an agent. Driends moved to Europe and did it much cheaper as you said. Siesta is common in parts of Spain, especially outside of big cities. See you there sometime soon
Some good tips and you'll find plenty more the longer you live here I'm sure....we live about an hour north of Montefrio towards Jaén and absolutely love it here, bought 10 years ago and renovated and lived here permanently for nearly 3 years
We are moving next year, and the info on the cats is so comforting !! Question, did yall have someone help you with their paperwork? Or were yall able to do that yourselves as well? I’ve seen the companies that help you do various parts of cat relocation, but wasn’t sure if there were options to JUST do the paperwork, and then we fly with our girls ourselves… Ours are a bit chattier so hopefully they can be as peaceful as your kids 😂😂😂 congrats on the move! hope to be there soon!!
Where are you moving to??!! I’m so glad I could help. We did all the paperwork, well us and the vet. There are specific vets who are certified to do travel documents. We started the process 3 months before leaving just in case of last minute things. I will be making a video that goes into all the details of the paperwork because it’s ALOT either that or a blog. I would say first step, find and consult with a travel vet!! They will likely help with a lot of knowledge because they’ll usually look up what documentation you need etc. and have it ready for your first appointment. Or at least ours did. Definitely worth asking if they do. They’ll also inform you on how to book with the dept of agriculture and fisheries which is a bit of a draining process too haha and the wait time was unbelievable it took us all day (literally from 9am to about 3pm) so just be prepared.
@@underelspanishsunWe are still deciding !! Heading out this first quarter to get my partner his digital nomad visa, I’m an American/EU dual citizen of Luxembourg, so my greencard process is a bit different, but your content has been so helpful to us, thanks for the work! We are leaning toward Girona or Madrid (we are cyclists who have had friends live in those cities), but truly anywhere is better than America right now 😂😂 so we are heading out to scope out those areas more closely early next year. Thanks again, can’t wait for more cat content 🎉❤
How fantastic! I’m sure you’ll find the perfect place sometimes you just have to feel it. And cycling wow lots of beautiful places to ride here that’s for sure. Will try and do more cat content for you 😉 haha
Love the risk it for the biscuit enthusiasm, but at this point isn't it fair to say you're tourists with a house, a car and a pair of relocated cats? This seems like a lot to unwind if you don't get a visa. Is there a backup plan? We're about 6 months out from our move, so not trying to be mean, just wondering what your thinking is on this.
I don’t think you’re mean at all!! But thanks for saying that haha, it’s a completely valid question which some may view as foolish and others as brave. To give you some peace of mind, in saying risk it for the biscuit I use the term lightly. All our ducks are in a row and we far exceed the criteria needed for a visa and with the company we went through who has a 98% success rate and is highly regarded within the migration world we were able to get a very firm good-to-go before proceeding. So yeah I totally get what you mean but all in all we should be good. And we’ve said that worst case scenario we have a holiday house in our favourite country.
Hola, congratulations for your very rapid moves. We are also planning in moving to Spain in would appreciate more details about the taxes. Where did you find out that with double taxation agreement you don't need to pay taxes in Spain?. Neither pay social contributions. Gracias
Hola!! Gracias :D That must be so exciting. When are you looking at moving and where from? So the treaty is between spain and australia, so I'm not sure if it applies to you depending on where you're from but for aussies... if your income is earned in Australia and not from Spain, there is a treaty which you can read more about here: www.odintax.com/resources/australia-spain-double-tax-treaty/#:~:text=A%20double%20tax%20treaty%2C%20or,Australian%20expat%2C%20or%20vice%20versa. and as for the social security, here you go: www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/canberra/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/Visa-for-digital-nomads.aspx Hope it helps! :)
Perth is beautiful… but we love Europe so much and want to travel so being very far away doesn’t help. We also love the food and culture of Spain ☺️ Enjoy Alicante!
@@underelspanishsun Thanks. Hope you enjoy Spain. p.s. very impressed you travelled that distance with two cats - incredible! Our moggie gets extremely p****d off if his routine is even slightly altered! :)
Oh that sounds like our Aragorn!! Haha we had given him a vet recommended relaxer it’s a natural supplement which seems to calm them just enough for travel.
Not sure if it’s because of the LOTR reference (which is what we named them after, our other cat is Arwen) or due to the fact that “Aragon” is an area in Spain haha either way! Thanks 😉
Saludos
Thank you for the warm welcome! Yes the driving situation is something we’re so nervous about haha so thanks for the tip!! The municipal registration we’re doing soon 🥳 Is it true that the Spanish course includes some free sessions? Thanks again for the tips!!
Love that you contributed all this info! I'ts so helpful and hopefully more people can read and learn from this comment. Great tips for sure! Here are some notes: - Yes anything built inside or outside with a roof needs a permit I believe. - Luckily health insurance is not needed in our case personally but yes MOST people do need it. (This is due to the type of work we do and the treaty between australia and spain) - Ah yes the car! it is legal for us to drive it as it has been processed like a lease for now until we do the transfer. It is not a usual case so it doesn't apply to most people. - Yes there are many rules and regulations just like australia regarding the animal law. There were so many forms to fill etc but I'll be doing a video going into details about this in the future. But it wasn't too hard luckily. Just very fiddley.
Nice to hear about your project! Good luck in my country! The today's message is interesting but the music bothers so much and you lose attention to it. I think you make confusion between "ocupación" and "allanamiento de morada". Perhaps the person who explain you didn't know the difference. By the way, I'm living now in Italy and to make all the renovation works that I made to make my new house livible, I had to hire an arquitect to make a project plan, supervised by the council, wich approved it and then start the woks. In Spain, it's exactly the same procedure. Be carefull with all these details.
Hey lovely! thanks so much. Yes the terms are tricky thats for sure. Essentially we refer to them as squatter laws so its different to what it's referred to here. As for the renovations yes, permits are most definitely the way to go.. however it seems that sometimes they want permits for painting walls which usually goes unreported etc just based on what i've heard. But i believe any construction work etc needs to be with a permit.
