Friend of mine that worked with the railroad said the International start on gas and switch to diesel were better that the old cat pony motors . As long as you could start it on gas it would usually switch to diesel .
I'm very familiar of both systems. Overall, both work well. Of course, the IH setup is simpler, and less subject to abuse. The starting engines are good for extreme cold starts (-40) which happened more than one would think, and the starting engines, even to this day some guys love them. They like them because you get full oil pressure on the diesel engine before you crack the throttle. Another plus to the starting engines is Caterpillar didn't have to change the diesel engine to convert them to direct electric start, other than add glow plugs. The starting engines did live longer than the IH setup, being standard until 1971 on D8s and D9s and optional until 1974. But the IH system was also excellent and works well. The reason this one didn't go to diesel, is we have fuel issues that need to be addressed. I'll check the fuel system in the WD-9 and get it running on diesel before I put it in the shop to repair third gear and the steering box.
Boy I sure wouldn’t want to get on your bad side you cranked that old girl like someone took the spark plugs out! You weren’t even huffing and puffing or out of breath! I have a Farmall M and 4 Ford 8N tractors and I wish money grew on trees so I could restore them period correct!😀🇨🇦
Everyone wishes that money grew on trees. It would be nice to be able to restore a bunch of them. Problem with restoring them is then you don't want to work them... lol.

Alberta is about the size of Texas. And longitude affects the climate as much as latitude. La Crete, AB is about the same latitude as Churchill, MB. La Crete they grow crops, Churchill has permafrost.
The Timberlind auction site I like to preview was 2 miles from the Buck Creek fire. in 2016, It was drier here that spring, By this time everything was dry. But there was a fair amount of rain in May that year. Hope this year is the same. We just got about 6-8" of snow this week.
Where are you from? I've been raised with old timers who had lots of stories. My grandpa was raised in leader, SK in the 1930s. Also, on March 15, 1988, my dad and grandpa were plowing. That's why I'm not buying the accusations that climate change is our fault.

Ty, you appear to be as big as a brown bear. I am normal size, so I would be using a starter.
Great video Ty, God Bless you and your family.
I almost did but I crank for the purpose of the video. Normally I do start with the starter. God bless you too

We had a bunch of snow lately. In our area in Alberta, we actually had in my estimation a near normal level of snow. Down south it's pretty dry.
