An absolutely beautiful production. Loved the slow pace, sense of adventure and isolation in this. And every shot of the tripods gave weight, scale, awe and mystery. If any of the original crew and cast are reading this - thank you for your labours of love.
It may not seem to be a big thing now, but The Tripods was the very first scifi series that had a completely computer generated intro sequence to be seen on television. Or, at least, that was my experience when I watched the show as a kid at the time. The animated triangular symbol looked truly alien and futuristic. Not to forget the perfectly fitting synth theme. Goosebumps right from the start. Iconic.
I loved watching this as a kid on a Saturday night and was so disappointed in it's demise. One can only hope that all the books finally get televised and the story told 🤞
I doubt that will happen any time soon. Disney has owned the film rights to The Tripods since 1997. It was reported in 2005 that a cinematic version was in pre-production with Australian-born director Gregor Jordan signed on to rewrite and direct for Walt Disney's Touchstone Pictures label.
Lets do it :) i work in the industry not sure if you do Alexander but Russel T Davies brought back doctor who and he was a fan so why couldn't fans bring this back. Not sure if the BBC still own the rights.
Sadly that won’t happen any time soon. Disney has owned the film rights to The Tripods since 1997. It was reported in 2005 that a cinematic version was in pre-production with Australian-born director Gregor Jordan signed on to rewrite and direct for Walt Disney's Touchstone Pictures label.
A travesty that the final series of the trilogy was never made. The BBC controller at the time, michael grade, hated science fiction and couldn't wait to axe this!🤬
I remember watching this and loving it… except for the fact that Prince Harry was born during the first episode and the BBC put a notice on screen that it had happened… it nearly ruined one of the first things I ever recorded.
I'm pretty sure I encountered When The Tripods Came before the main series as a child and it was an interesting way to get into these books. IIRC it made the transition to the "future with past technology" setting of the main series extra jarring, which I remember liking.
Physical models and real characters will always be better than computer generated vacuous epics of today. My eyes glaze over at the sight of this so called progress. Tripods and others before computers came along are still enjoyable. I cannot imagine the sterile rubbish of today being so. Cheers
I watched The Tripods when it first aired & it was amazing. Sadly any remake, or plan to complete the series probably won’t happen. Disney has owned the film rights to The Tripods since 1997. Someone finally uploaded this. Yaay!

Thanks for posting this. When it came out I was a keen viewer. Always disappointed it never had the third series or repeats.
Yes the fact that it was never repeated by the BBC is almost criminal!

....🙄🙄🙄
I wish they had finished the show.
The Tripods is ripe for a remake into a two series masterpiece.
Lets do it :) i work in the industry not sure if you do Alexander but Russel T Davies brought back doctor who and he was a fan so why couldn't fans bring this back. Not sure if the BBC still own the rights.
Nah, they'll just make it woke

@dubstepzsi it getting taken off yt by them so I think they do but with how old it is they can't be too expensive
@davidanderson1639 huh wierd I wonder why they chose this series did they ever release the film?

Ja, das haben viele damalige Jugendliche in der Welt Mr.Grade nie verziehen.
Die Serie hatte viel Potential. Auch von den Verkauf der Filmrechte her.

Let’s not forget the prequel book.
When The Tripods Came.
I never read it. I need to go back and check it out.

This was a brilliant series .. so wish they’d made the last episodes

I don’t understand why they won’t adapt the books once more in a series with three seasons. The books are so good
time for the movie
