I agree, but LaShun ministers to my soul of me. When I listen to her older recordings, there's not one album where she's ministering where it's not "thus saith the Lord" type of ministering.
Lashun's higher register has always been a bit crisper than Karen's, in my opinion. Also, when they are both standing flat-footed and just singing, Shun always sounded a bit smoother and less nasally in delivery and was able to transition to the climax of her songs a bit better, whereas Karen vocal acrobatics always came through a bit too soon for me. Don't get me wrong, I have several albums from them both, but LaShun tips the scale a little more for me due to her technique and restraint.
You couldn't of said it any better, both of them are amazing singers, but Lashun never ceases to amaze me, her choice of notes and tones and skills are more to my taste. REST IN HEAVEN LASHUN❤❤❤🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I prefer Lashun’s tone and control and not to mention her range is sickening. Karen hit notes but have to run down the notes while LaShun can hit notes and stay up there consistently throughout the song. Don’t get me wrong I think Karen is an AMAZING singer but she can be very inconsistent and all over the place at times. LaShun was always spot on pitch perfect and knows how to interpret a song with the right amount of vocal acrobatics without overdoing it.
Myblock 2007 Karen can definitely stay up there of course her voice is lighter. She just overall more active during a song & sometimes she just is a little tired.
Lashun definitely over does it, and her voice gets a little whinny and annoying after awhile. Both of there voices have flaws. Both vocalists are sometimes all over the place. Lashun's voice is bright but that does not make her a better sunger. Perfect example, Natalie Cole singer higher than Toni Braxton, but Toni's tonality is gold compared to Natalie's. Higher pitch does not always mean better. This is coming from a Patti Labelle fanatic, but even she has her flaws. :)
I would have to hand it to Karen, her vocals are unmatched in the industry. She can hit high notes, scat, groan, and hit runs like you wouldn’t believe it. Like many others have said, hitting high notes aren’t the only thing that makes you a great singer, skillfully singing does #TeamKaren

You do not hear the 6 octave nor does Karen sing in it. They both have a 3 octave range and are light- lyric-sopranos! They have reached the 4th but rarely!
Their both light-lyric sopranos with the same range, only difference is their technique's! Truth is that c6 is a screaming note both of them are excellent screamers! Karen is more agile with her vocal tricks and LaShun's Natural pitch note is very high ( w/o) screaming. She ONCE had more weight in her timbre than Karen ! I aint gonna lie they sound like they are hurting themselves tryna hit them c's and d's lol!

Lashuns clear head notes are perfect I've never hear one crack in her head range. Then you put her with the 9 and you can't tell her voice apart. I love KCS but Lashun just brings tears to my eyes.

Now, in my personal opinion, I would HAVE to go with who's the most CONSISTENT...which of course is KCS. Her control in the MIDST of her "chest voice highs" is 2nd to NONE (just about across the majority of music genres). Some might say her RANGE seems to have expanded as she has aged.
Pastormiller20020 I agree except I don't think her range necessarily expanded. I think she stopped carrying weight up so high and just started using mixed voice. If you notice, she isn't quite as loud as she used to be either. It's funny...most women's voices get a little deeper with age. Karen lets hers go higher.
Hey DeshaunX...Very much true, not as "loud" or heavy. That's why I said "SOME folks say it would seem.." This is chiefly because she is no longer in her PRIME (85 - 2001). However, she has been able to master the art of adjusting her breathing, to remove some of the pressure off of the LARYNX. Takes an extreme amount of discipline...No smoking, a decent diet, and a reasonable amount of rest are all necessary at her age. Thanks for that great point!
So I guess everyone is team Karen and that's cool. Karen is a damn good good soprano vocalist. But Shun, Shun is a dramatic soprano and her notes are really effortless in reaching. "IN MY OPINION," the last few videos of Karen reaching those real high notes was really of her screaming for those notes...and that's perfectly fine because that's what we do in the church...and the congregation loves it as you can see, but now with Shun, the same thing, but hers doesn't sound as forced and naturally obtained. In other words, Shun's ability to reach that range sounds more comfortable and more natural to reach. "IN MY OPINION"...
I personally think they are equally yoked lady pass is wonderful and she did have kind of an effortless play about her now miss Karen her vocal choices are out of this world
That part! There's a reason why most of Lashun's clips are old and Karen's are mainly newer. I love Lashun though! But it's remarkable the longevity that Karen has experienced vocally after decades of loud & hard singing.
Bryun Lion LaShun was hitting notes like that up until a few years back when cancer attacked her body and some of the treatments dwindled her range. But thank God for healing and setting her free from cancer.
John jones I was generally speaking. Cuz I didn’t wanna go into specifics. But the truth is. Karen’s unique career has spanned form the 70’s to current. Whereas Shun’s career “ended” after the unfortunate loss of #Xenia and when coupled by health issues, she “retired”.
Karen is actually older than LaShun. Their voice preservation is just different due to various challenges and etc. They’ve been doing this just as long as each other. Clark’s have an upper hand because they started recorded 20 years prior to the Pace’s.
The great Lashaun Pace,was trained in opera, i wonder if many people know that, she actually turned down a Voice Scholarship to study and sing opera,and Mrs Sheard has been studying voice for about 10 or more years with an elite voice coach, both are tremendous, i dont pit Gods people against each other, i just enjoy greatness

To me Lashun Pace soprano is more effortless and Karen Clark Sheard is somewhat forced but not too much. But they both have beautiful sounding naturals and I love to hear sopranos sing low and with volume as if they're talking the notes out.

I love both of these ladies voices. I have always enjoyed Lashun and the rest of the Pace sisters. You can just hear so much annointment in La Shun's songs and when she tells her testament it touches you deeply. She has been through so much even the losing of a child. Karen has a beautiful voice as well. Lashun is definitely my favorite. I will always enjoy the Clark sisters. I wouldn't make a comparison of the two not good to compare two women of God no competion needed when your singing for the Lord !!

Agreed. I prefer Karen's voice AND extensive catalogue of varied contemporary songs. She's forced to be relevant and so she is " signature " but she's evolved and so much more than whatever she was last project. Her songs change almost as much as her personal style does. Yes for me it sounds yelly and her tone is squeaky. Her voice isn’t balanced. Also it’s the style at which she attacks the high notes. Even though her sister Duranice has less range I like her singing style better.
True. But Faith is more of a lighter mezzo soprano. When it comes to staying above G5, she may have a hard time staying up there with Karen. But Faith can sang DOWN!! I seen that at 2018 or 2019 Soul Train Awards.
I'm late/ new to this vocal channel . This is so wrong but Lashun has my vote. Both are great singers but when getting goosebumps from HIGH vocals, LASHUN PACE IS MY FAVORITE.
Karen I would say is a lyric soprano or a lyric spinto. She seems more @ home in the rafters! Hints the agility & control. Her agility has bled over into her lower register(hints her transitions are smooth throughout). She’s able to control her sound from raspy, to clear & even squalls. It’s just all around sound for me. Lashun has more of a spinto characteristics where there is more weight & drawn out notes. She super skilled that she knows how to lighten her tone to achieve notes past wht is usually classified as out of a spintos reach. That’s technique! She also can project her voice perfectly without a mic.
When I started listening to both of them and started comparing their vocals. I realized that Lashun has a darker tone than Karen. And I completely agree with you when you say Lashun is a spinto and Karen is a lyric.

definitely. I think a lot of people underestimate karen because she was in a group and never truly displayed her full vocal talent until she went solo. I think the older karen got (80's-90's) she started to use her voice more and stand out more than she did when she was younger. I also think karen has more power than lashaun.

Both of them are kingdom powerhouses...both of their pipes got pipes. Both of em could get well into the whistle register when they were younger. I'm talking Mariah Carey, Shanice...Georgia Brown high notes and range and melisma. Kingdom high notes...they're still high in Holy Ghost range now though. You already know.
John jones ......Minnie Riperton was the Queen of octaves and Mariah Carey pattern herself after Minnie.....But Shun and Karen are powerhouse octaves too.....and if anyone went to see Momma I'm Sorry about 22 years ago.....Melba Moore was hitting and holding longer notes that sounded like a fire truck!!! They had to drop the curtain and she was still hitting the note from behind the curtain to a Thunderous applause and standing ovation!!!
@@jayelove1504 Whoo-hoo!!! I know of what you speak. Melba Moore moreso than these legendary ladies, introduced and invoked such a rabid appreciation for what seemed inhumanly possible to do. Loud, thunder-smacking vocals that stretched beyond the minds understanding of time. It was/ she was EPIC. And to then be told she performed that way, night after night after night after night after night. Twice on matinee shows for at least a year or two before an understudy would come in, was again, EPIC. Later I grew to admire KCS's ridiculously creative approaches to gospel music. And Lashun's work much much later. All these artists are so completely out of bounds in the arena of musical genius. The ear, the instrument, the consistency is just beyond comprehension to us mere mortals.
I don't care what noone says or do my auntie Karen is in a class all by herself she's a beast with them runs and I'm not nor will I ever compare her to anyone. Just my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
This is hard cause I love Lushun’s power and precision is higher notes but I still admire and love the creativity and agility that comes when Karen hits higher notes. Lushun has a plot of gut power and vocal strength which gives her more conformity during the application of high notes. Karen on the other hand has way more vocal creativity with high notes, and is more agile with higher notes as well as hitting higher notes than Lushun in her career. Lashun’s voice is huskier than Karen’s because Karen is thinner than her and after her surgery Karen’s voice has become less heavy. Considering this is a vocal range challenge we have to consider that Karen has done tenor runs that were clean, also that Karen has done even higher notes with more agility and creativity than Lashun. Karen’s Career is longer and more packed than Lushun’s as well so we don’t know what Lashun’s true capability can be, and Karen’s career still going means we don’t know her true capabilities as well. In my mind Karen is on a whole other planet.

I like both because they sang for God’s Glory. They both are high but have different sounds. They are both anointed but there are others who sing lower and just as anointed.

The difference here is staying power. Karen’s prime is WHENEVER she sings ever! That’s just it. This lady’s voice stands the test of time through vastly unhealthy technique (at times). That’s a REAL GIFT! However, at their prime, they are both equal GIANTS! Just wow.

I don’t think “staying power” means anything when some one goes through chemo therapy (which can destroy vocal cords”. I’m almost positive without sickness, Lashun’s staying power would have been the same. Look at her fam, they can ALL still sing. It’s the same with Twinkie (my fave) she struggles, not because she “doesn’t have staying power” but her vocal abilities have changed because of sickness.

When comparing 2 or more vocal-icons, here's a better formula: (Outside of preference) Who among them is most likely CAPABLE of executing nearly-ANYTHING that the OTHER could do?? There is really no debate that KCS is the superior vocalists.
Lashun has a higher testissura then karen but not as much presence or ease in the 6 octave. Lashun runs our usaully technical and stay right on key where as karen doesn't always know where she going just knows she heading hoommneee

@@dzyahscloud8256 testissura is the range in which your voice is most comfortable and has the best timbre or sound. Karen voice probably has more range low to high, but sings a little lower on average. Alto's have lower testissura and Sapranos have higher ones make high notes easier to reach. So it basically means how high or low a person voice sits natural without changing vocal placement. Lashun mostly stays in Saprano Karen stays in Mezzo Saprano to full Saprano.

I love Lashun, but Karen is super unmatched. Karen hits the high notes effortlessly whereas Lashun barely hits it. Even watching the two powerhouses sing together, you can clearly see and hear the difference in delivery. Not to mention, Karen riffs and runs in the high range. Again, all respect to mama Pace, but Lady Sheard takes this one. 🤷🏽♂️
There should never be a need for a competitive battle between Gospel artists who have the same objective in delivering the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no competition or battle Between Christians in Jesus. They are both gifted and talented women of God.

The reasons why she sounds lighter these days is probably becuz she gradually lose her chest voice but that doesn't change the fact that she still has a timbre that's inherently way too dark to be a light lyric soprano these days. She was a genuine light lyric soprano in her youth, weightier but significantly brighter (hence childlike) voice than now. She nowhere sounds like that now and even sounds like spinto soprano at some points despite her rather underdeveloped chest voice she possess currently. One can't move their voice up throughout the years except if you're talking about technique (whether excellent or horrible) that might have alter that person's voice then that's a different story. It it's, then that's considered as artificial and disrespectful in personal level. Because it related to the size of your vocal cord (which affect natural density, timbre and tessitura, pasaaggio of the voice) and length/thickness of your tract (which also involves in the determination of your natural timbre and tessitura). Neither can't be shrink naturally (except if you discuss how's the voice behave after it fully rested; for example morning's voice, then yes but not far from the average they currently keep) unless they decided to undergo medical operation.

And also I saw some comments about Karen having to run down her voice it’s because those high notes won’t make since always if she just does it and then keeps singing sometimes u have to scat it to add body
I love this ending with these two gems on the same stage and I love how the audience will edge them on. Just shows our appreciation for them.

Now, in my personal opinion, I would HAVE to go with who's the most CONSISTENT...which of course is KCS. Her control in the MIDST of her "chest voice highs" is 2nd to NONE (just about across the majority of music genres). Some might say her RANGE seems to have expanded as she has aged.
Pastormiller20020 I agree except I don't think her range necessarily expanded. I think she stopped carrying weight up so high and just started using mixed voice. If you notice, she isn't quite as loud as she used to be either. It's funny...most women's voices get a little deeper with age. Karen lets hers go higher.
Hey DeshaunX...Very much true, not as "loud" or heavy. That's why I said "SOME folks say it would seem.." This is chiefly because she is no longer in her PRIME (85 - 2001). However, she has been able to master the art of adjusting her breathing, to remove some of the pressure off of the LARYNX. Takes an extreme amount of discipline...No smoking, a decent diet, and a reasonable amount of rest are all necessary at her age. Thanks for that great point!
So I guess everyone is team Karen and that's cool. Karen is a damn good good soprano vocalist. But Shun, Shun is a dramatic soprano and her notes are really effortless in reaching. "IN MY OPINION," the last few videos of Karen reaching those real high notes was really of her screaming for those notes...and that's perfectly fine because that's what we do in the church...and the congregation loves it as you can see, but now with Shun, the same thing, but hers doesn't sound as forced and naturally obtained. In other words, Shun's ability to reach that range sounds more comfortable and more natural to reach. "IN MY OPINION"...

Bryun Lion LaShun was hitting notes like that up until a few years back when cancer attacked her body and some of the treatments dwindled her range. But thank God for healing and setting her free from cancer.

But the truth is. Karen’s unique career has spanned form the 70’s to current.
Whereas Shun’s career “ended” after the unfortunate loss of #Xenia and when coupled by health issues, she “retired”.
Karen is actually older than LaShun. Their voice preservation is just different due to various challenges and etc. They’ve been doing this just as long as each other. Clark’s have an upper hand because they started recorded 20 years prior to the Pace’s.

To me Lashun Pace soprano is more effortless and Karen Clark Sheard is somewhat forced but not too much. But they both have beautiful sounding naturals and I love to hear sopranos sing low and with volume as if they're talking the notes out.

I love both of these ladies voices. I have always enjoyed Lashun and the rest of the Pace sisters. You can just hear so much annointment in La Shun's songs and when she tells her testament it touches you deeply. She has been through so much even the losing of a child. Karen has a beautiful voice as well. Lashun is definitely my favorite. I will always enjoy the Clark sisters. I wouldn't make a comparison of the two not good to compare two women of God no competion needed when your singing for the Lord !!

Yes for me it sounds yelly and her tone is squeaky. Her voice isn’t balanced. Also it’s the style at which she attacks the high notes. Even though her sister Duranice has less range I like her singing style better.

I'm late/ new to this vocal channel . This is so wrong but Lashun has my vote. Both are great singers but when getting goosebumps from HIGH vocals, LASHUN PACE IS MY FAVORITE.
Karen I would say is a lyric soprano or a lyric spinto. She seems more @ home in the rafters! Hints the agility & control. Her agility has bled over into her lower register(hints her transitions are smooth throughout). She’s able to control her sound from raspy, to clear & even squalls. It’s just all around sound for me.
Lashun has more of a spinto characteristics where there is more weight & drawn out notes. She super skilled that she knows how to lighten her tone to achieve notes past wht is usually classified as out of a spintos reach. That’s technique! She also can project her voice perfectly without a mic.
When I started listening to both of them and started comparing their vocals. I realized that Lashun has a darker tone than Karen. And I completely agree with you when you say Lashun is a spinto and Karen is a lyric.

Both of them are kingdom powerhouses...both of their pipes got pipes. Both of em could get well into the whistle register when they were younger. I'm talking Mariah Carey, Shanice...Georgia Brown high notes and range and melisma. Kingdom high notes...they're still high in Holy Ghost range now though. You already know.

Later I grew to admire KCS's ridiculously creative approaches to gospel music. And Lashun's work much much later.

This is hard cause I love Lushun’s power and precision is higher notes but I still admire and love the creativity and agility that comes when Karen hits higher notes. Lushun has a plot of gut power and vocal strength which gives her more conformity during the application of high notes. Karen on the other hand has way more vocal creativity with high notes, and is more agile with higher notes as well as hitting higher notes than Lushun in her career. Lashun’s voice is huskier than Karen’s because Karen is thinner than her and after her surgery Karen’s voice has become less heavy. Considering this is a vocal range challenge we have to consider that Karen has done tenor runs that were clean, also that Karen has done even higher notes with more agility and creativity than Lashun. Karen’s Career is longer and more packed than Lushun’s as well so we don’t know what Lashun’s true capability can be, and Karen’s career still going means we don’t know her true capabilities as well. In my mind Karen is on a whole other planet.

The difference here is staying power. Karen’s prime is WHENEVER she sings ever! That’s just it. This lady’s voice stands the test of time through vastly unhealthy technique (at times). That’s a REAL GIFT! However, at their prime, they are both equal GIANTS! Just wow.
I love them both, but let’s just imagine Karen with the same health issues as Lashun...I wonder if her Prime would Still be WHENEVER... I don’t think “staying power” means anything when some one goes through chemo therapy (which can destroy vocal cords”.
I’m almost positive without sickness, Lashun’s staying power would have been the same. Look at her fam, they can ALL still sing. It’s the same with Twinkie (my fave) she struggles, not because she “doesn’t have staying power” but her vocal abilities have changed because of sickness.

Karen voice probably has more range low to high, but sings a little lower on average. Alto's have lower testissura and Sapranos have higher ones make high notes easier to reach. So it basically means how high or low a person voice sits natural without changing vocal placement. Lashun mostly stays in Saprano Karen stays in Mezzo Saprano to full Saprano.

I love Lashun, but Karen is super unmatched. Karen hits the high notes effortlessly whereas Lashun barely hits it. Even watching the two powerhouses sing together, you can clearly see and hear the difference in delivery. Not to mention, Karen riffs and runs in the high range. Again, all respect to mama Pace, but Lady Sheard takes this one. 🤷🏽♂️

The reasons why she sounds lighter these days is probably becuz she gradually lose her chest voice but that doesn't change the fact that she still has a timbre that's inherently way too dark to be a light lyric soprano these days. She was a genuine light lyric soprano in her youth, weightier but significantly brighter (hence childlike) voice than now. She nowhere sounds like that now and even sounds like spinto soprano at some points despite her rather underdeveloped chest voice she possess currently. One can't move their voice up throughout the years except if you're talking about technique (whether excellent or horrible) that might have alter that person's voice then that's a different story. It it's, then that's considered as artificial and disrespectful in personal level. Because it related to the size of your vocal cord (which affect natural density, timbre and tessitura, pasaaggio of the voice) and length/thickness of your tract (which also involves in the determination of your natural timbre and tessitura). Neither can't be shrink naturally (except if you discuss how's the voice behave after it fully rested; for example morning's voice, then yes but not far from the average they currently keep) unless they decided to undergo medical operation.
