Listening to this in 2020, where music has become more ambient, and I can´t believe that this is from a video game. Jeremy Soule is tha man.
Video game music tended to go grandious in 90-s. In some cases when they did an orchestral rearrangement of some oldie tunes 20 years later you just get puzzled what astounding music they wrote with limited capabilities. :D
Chris Huelsbeck? Goddammit.

It's not just game music, film music too has become too ambient/textural instead of thematic.
@@borgestheborg Composing music with thematic depth requires a sense of writing and purpose, whereas ambient music is less demanding in this respect. I agree with your sentiment, and it's a rather sad observation.
@@zoltanormosi5617 Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Total Annihilation one of the very first video games that had an actual orchestral soundtrack (as in, using a real orchestra to record it)?
@@omegastar19 True. But even earlier there were composers with visions of highly orchestral grandiousity in their compositions.
The Quality of the Orchestra is absolutely nostalgic to AAA films like star wars and the likes. I wish I can go back to when I was really young and played this game for the first time!
Considering Jeremy was like 19 when he wrotr this, he was perhaps really primarily influenced by John Williams, but to me the TA soundtrack sounds like a unique reinterpretation of the 19th century opera from both SW and williams' other work.
When I played the game back in 1997 I didn't really like the Soundtrack. I was used to the Industrial Soundtrack of C&C...
But oh my god, it grew on me. Now I love this music for the brilliant Sound and the nostalgia makes it even better... The whole OST is a masterpiece
I replayed the game a few years back during lockdown and this one hit really hard.
It came on around the 4th ARM mission where it felt like you were actually starting to feel like you were finally gaining ground against the CORE. Brought a big grin to my face.
This one is my absolute favourite..
Best soundtrack ever occured anywhere in this universe.
Thx for uploading, comrade
First game I ever played, back in 04. Wouldn't want any other soundtrack to hold such nostalgia, and a truly masterful one at that.
One of my favorite songs of all time. Evokes emotions every time i listen.
Every air raid I ever performed in TA was set to this theme
If people like this I'd also recommend Lennie Moore who did the Outcast soundtrack and anything with Bill Brown who did Undying and Rainbow 6.
I don't know what it is about this soundtrack, on the surface it's standard bombastic orchestral stuff but it feels different somehow.
MFW I upgraded my RAM so I can play the 64 MB maps...
This track always gave me strong American Civil War vibes.
Hard as fuck!
Wanna buy the soundtrack but where and second is there a way i can play this game again on the new computer's
Link is in the description. Soundtrack is included in the Commander Pack. They claim this:
ATI/AMD compatibility notice: Total Annihilation: Commander Pack requires graphic card drivers version 13.4 or older.
Mac notice: The game is 32-bit only and will not work on macOS 10.15 and up.
But Win10 in general shouldn't pose a problem.
If you have the original CD you can just put in in a CD player and it would play, that's how I used to listen to it.
the soundtrack is redbook. it's an audio track on the game CDs.
Check out "Beyond All Reason". It's like an updated port.
Game can be found on GOG I have it and it works good
