Great video, thanks! I think a corset/cincher could be used in a similar way. They're made to be tight in the waist, and they provide similar advantages when wearing heavy hoop skirts and crinolines (you really don't want those hanging off your shoulders or digging into your hips either).
Very informative. I have a padded garment but i think it's a bit too loose at the waist because i'm rather thin. I think I'll use a wide belt as you suggested. I was thinking about those weightlifting belts.
Really helpful. I have bad trouble with my leg harness. I've tried suspending it from a leather belt held above my hip and it was uncomfortable, it limited my movement. And ended up slipping down.
I think you'll find a textile based suspension a lot more comfortable and offer a lot more freedom of movement. Glad this helped! The same principle can be applied to leather as well but would definitely require a nice wide piece of soft supple leather to duplicate the effect of a textile, very unlike a normal belt.
In a helicopter you tend to sit leaning to one side, hunched over in a vibrating machine for hours and hours at a time. A couple thousand hours of that takes its toll on your joints.
Hopefully you're still interested in finding out, and if you haven't found out already, I shall now alleviate your curiosity. No, they do not, especially if they're made to your measurements. I own one of the same style as Ian's and it fits well enough to allow mounting of armor, and allows for you to breathe, move, stretch, and much more.
I've been looking around for this online to get myself one, had no luck so far though, i thought i'd ask here if you have any good references for places to buy items like this? In particular i need myself a pair of padded legs (for underneath my leg plates) and of course something to suspend them with, this piece here looks like exactly what i need, having a belt around me was a temporary solution, but i'd like to actually wear it comfortably, and this looks like just what i'm looking for, so if there are any websites (especially in europe) i'd appreciate it alot! Thanks for the video(s), it's always helpful, interesting and educational all the same..!
+Micki Matsu That vest is not a historical solution to the problem. This video is only to illustrate conceptually how legs should be suspended. If you want to see how it was done historically I'd recommend this video: th-cam.com/video/1otNlYgX4eA/w-d-xo.html
+Knyght Errant thanks, in that case the clothing piece beneath it as in the video you linked (also a great video btw) is what i am looking for afterall, could you instead recommend a place to buy that exact piece instead? i'm not having luck finding the parts and pieces i need to suspend my leg plates online, and relying on a belt is bothersome, as you could imagine/probably know i'd really like to have something proper done with my parts before may, since there is a medieval fair in town i'd like to go to, and appear as presentable as possible! referably without an aching waist, haha. thanks in advance, this is very helpful
A lot these things really need to be made on your own or by a person capable of doing the sewing. In a pinch the 'vest' garment can be found at places like 'Revival Clothing.'
+Knyght Errant i understand, then i will see what i can do, i'm not familiar with any places that sell the correct materials to make it on my own, and i don't trust my own skills to make anything of good quality if i did find all i need, but perhaps i can figure something out, thanks for the reply.
@@MincyMatsu hey, I thought I should probably say something there are two really good armors who both make gambesons however, there's only one that I've seen that makes gambison chuasses. Try arm street, and go to their padded armour. The kingmaker stuff fits, an can be tailored to your meeasurments! Hoped this helped. Cheers
I have to say having seen Beard Errant this feels like an impostor
This looks (and sounds) like a completely different person!

Hi, my cuisses dont have a leather attachment for suspension, do you know of any other ways I could suspend them
Leathers can still be installed after the fact. Holes would need to be drilled along the upper hem of the cuisse and a leather riveted in place.
@@KnyghtErrant Ok, thank you
is there a way to buy this
What is that red arming garmet in your video called? I’m trying to find something like that but black.

That's genius. Great idea!
I'm curious, how did flying choppers damage your back? Only thing I can think of is real hard landings but that doesn't sound right.

Does the doublet restrict your breathing?

@@MaefigHistory Never found the answer and I think the topic of arms and armour will always interest me so thank you for your answer!

This is just wrong.
Where is the beard?
