- Mai Lee Chang knew early on she wanted to be an engineer. Through perseverance and hard work, her dream became a reality. She now works as a human factors engineer at NASA in Houston, Texas. We were fortunate to have Mai Lee on our show. Thank you Mai Lee and good luck and we appreciate the work that you do at NASA. Your story is an inspiration to all. Thank you.

I understand how some might believe that she MUST speak in Hmong because it shows her acknowledgement of the language. Tab sis tej los lus twb yeej txhais tsis tshua laij rau lus hmoob (for example, astronaut, internship, etc). Nws twb yeej hais lus hmoob zoo kawg lawm, tsuas yog tej los lus nyuab zog es txhais tsis tshua laij xwb. Knowing and speaking in Hmong as a Hmong person is indeed a positive thing, but just look at the bigger picture; she's pursuing a career that is considered rare to achieve as a Hmong person other than becoming a doctor, nurse, businessperson, etc. In a section of the video, she mentioned herself that some of the words would be hard to be explained in Hmong since the language itself is lacking some of the words which would result with difficulty in allowing a proper explanation to be understood by a Hmong-speaking only person. When need to focus on these new Hmong leaders - male and especially the females. These are the people who will push Hmong culture and identity into the future. The old ways that involve political control and men trying to gain community power to write/re-write history has to go. We need to focus on these Hmong people who are making history today!

The guest should speak on her tongue of language, I think this interview is focus only for the Hmong community. She speaks good in her own language, but she just choose not to do so, why:? because she think its not worth it. I know that we Hmong do not have some words that to match, but only a few. I can understand that.

christopher her If you talk Hmong more than English then you will never be able to get into this kind of job. English should be your first language and Hmong second. I see lots of Hmong people graduate with BA degree and worked at grocery store because their English is weak and no one wants them. Hmong language can't take you anywhere except talk to Hmong people, English can take you far.
