Most girls can get away with calling another girl pretty or gorgeous without people immediately thinking they are attracted to the same gender, whereas with guys if they do that they’ll be seen as sus. So guys will preface their compliments with “I’m straight” or “I have a gf but..”, etc because they don’t want people immediately jumping to that conclusion if it’s not true. So it’s less about them being ashamed or whatever, it’s more so how guys and girl are perceived when they compliment someone of the same gender.
