As someone who was born & raised in the U.S., I can say that I appreciate the struggle that they all went thru & how much it meant to them to finally see apartheid come to an end. Back in slavery times here, and during the segregation era, our black people here went thru a great war to bring about change. It's listening to stories like this that lets us know that we who came afterwards should not take for granted the freedom that we have. We stand on every one of thier shoulders.

We have apartheid here. 145 per 100k world avg. for prisoners. 750 per 100k in US. African Americans? 1250 per 100k. Hispanics 900 per 100k (roughly).

Beautiful song but so sad, very good memorial for the massacred. Makeba and Masekela were revolutionaries through their music

Where did we go wrong cos the freedom we got is not the one they fought for. 🎶 Where were you when the kids were killed with the guns while they were throwing stones at them without any publicity 🎶 Soweto blues

It's a very good statement but it's very touching when you can see it from nearby

    "Children were flying,
    Bullets dying!"
I used to think that Miriam had made a mistake until I listened to different live versions of the song and realized that indeed that's the correct lyrics.

Lol? You're laughing out loud? Why?

    • @LimKaamen
      @LimKaamen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Cebelihle1 Because it reminds me of my mother tongue, Basaa language, which is metaphoric too. She used in English, a metaphor that is common in African languages (as computers aren't people you can ask questions to, in a human sense).

    • @Cebelihle1
      @Cebelihle1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@LimKaamen That's interesting. Thank you for that.
      Where is Basaa spoken?

    • @LimKaamen
      @LimKaamen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Cebelihle1 Cameroon (Basaa), Liberia (Bassa), Togo (Bassar), Democratic Republic Congo of Congo, and a few other countries. We typically understand one another for about 50% to 90% of the conversation. President George Weah of Liberia is as fluent as any Basaa native of Cameroon because he played football (soccer) there before going professional to Europe.

The children got a letter from the master
It said: no more Xhosa, Sotho, no more Zulu.
Refusing to comply they sent an answer
That's when the policemen came to the rescue
    Children were flying bullets dying
    The mothers screaming and crying
The fathers were working in the cities
The evening news brought out all the publicity:
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
Benikuphi ma madoda (where were the men)
abantwana beshaywa (when the children were throwing stones)
ngezimbokodo Mabedubula abantwana (when the children were being shot)
    Benikhupi na (where were you?)
There was a full moon on the golden city
Looking at the door was the man without pity
    Accusing everyone of conspiracy
Tightening the curfew charging people with walking
Yes, the border is where he was awaiting
Waiting for the children, frightened and running
A handful got away but all the others
Hurried their chain without any publicity
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
Mabedubula abantwana (when the children were being shot) Benikhupi na (where were you?)
    Soweto blues
    Soweto blues
Soweto blues - abu yethu a mama
Soweto blues - they are killing all the children
Soweto blues - without any publicity
Soweto blues - oh, they are finishing the nation
Soweto blues - while calling it black on black
Soweto blues - but everybody knows they are behind it
Soweto Blues - without any publicity
Soweto blues - they are finishing the nation
Soweto blues - god, somebody, help!
Soweto blues - (abu yethu a mama)
    Soweto blues

    😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️

Humans can be so evil. THAT evil when it's coming up should be squashed at the beginning, NOT after so many killings and destruction of innocent lives who are the "spoils" of these self centered NARCISSISTIC persons.
    (Just a thought. 👼)
