I didn't know that as well! Very interesting. "Vinho e alho" - wine and garlic - somehow managed to sound as "Vindaloo" through Indians mouth, which sounds way more cool. What a wonderful example of cultural exchange that dish is! Cheers from Brazil.
Fantastic video Mallika. This made me homesick for my mom, dad and grandma's cooking! Thrilled that you mentioned my beautiful home state of Goa and shed some light on the etymology of the word Vindaloo/ vindalho!
I just made and it was absolutely delicious! I didn’t marinate for long, just while I was cutting and frying the onions, so you can make the express version as well. I used 500g pork and we had with chapati. It was the perfect portion for 2. Love it 💕
I haven't had a ruby since i left blighty, and living in the southern tip of brazil, indian spices are nowhere to be seen, but after watching you with your recipe, i think i can give this one a go!! Muito obrigado (thank you very much) Malika Basu!!
Great video, I can smell it already! I love spice any recommendations on what other chillies I could add that would compliment with the kashmiri peppers?
I watched the whole thing thinking, 'damn, wish she had her own channel' - then clicked on your face in the comments, and, YOU DO! Subscribed, so glad! I LOVE authentic Indian flavours. My beloved place to enjoy them is a restaurant by a Hindu temple, so so good.
I just made the vindaloo paste and it smells beautifully, I can only imagine the smell i I had the coconut vinegar. I will continue tomorrow. If you do not hear from me it did finish me off, but it was worth it :D
Cooked and eaten. Tasted excellent. I love how spicy it was, but at the same time it wasn't too much. Mine didn't turn out so dark though. Thanks for a great recipe!
OMG, Mallika! I made your chicken korma 3 times and now this vindaloo!! I was never a huge fan of Indian food, nor can I handle hot spices well....but that was probably just because I've only known indian from eating a few times in the restaurant....but this....this is another level! Home cooked food....yummy!!😋 Thanks!!!
mallika i like the way you work ,.you have easy way u do it and it looks nice ,....am chef from Uganda east Africa i have learn many recipe from your vidio
I only had new mexico chilis and some Chinese small red chili on hand, so I used half of each. It is marinating in the fridge right now. I also used pork loin. I am going to brown it then throw in crockpot. Hopefully it will come out delish.
Being Portuguese, I hope this doesn't shock my countrymen too much, but I must admit I prefer the Indian version and also eat it a lot more often than the national counterpart, vinhadalhos. Great upload! Cheers!
Mallika, I've seen pork vindaloo made with green cardamom pods and bay leaves too. Is this another one of those seemingly classic recipes that contradictorily has a million and one versions, from household to household and restaurant to restaurant?
hi there, love to try this, great vid +Mallika! where can i pick up the recipe and method in full please? EDIT : false alarm, found it on your website !! many thanks :)
This sounds and looks delicious. I just wish it had a bit more colour! But it's more authentic than the brightly coloured ones we're used to. I might try cooking this at some point. I love her accent! And as some have said, I would say that's more a 1-2 portion, I would destroy all that myself lol
At last, a proper Vindaloo recipe, I've never got round to roasting the spices, although I know I should, but the end result looks stunning. This is on the menu mid week for sure. Plus shoulder ,meat is sooo much tastier than loin!!!
Really wonderful. I love how dark her cooking goes; it looks full of delicious flavours. I think she needs someone to help her to eat it, I'm volunteering :) Definitely going to try her recipes.
yayy...a Goan recipe gets featured. An all time favourite on all Goan occasion back in Goa. traditional the masala (paste) was grinded on grinding stones and cooked in clay pots with coconut spoon. slurrrppp
Does anyone know where to get the nutrition facts for this particular recipe? Having trouble finding it. And yes I did check the links in the video description.
My brother unsubscribed your channel in my account, luckily I found out when I'm surfing TH-cam. Great recipe, love it. Looking forward to your next recipe, Maulika, and your new uploads, Jamie. Lots of love
made Vindaloo for the first time using this recipe, except that I used fresh whole chilies in the paste and then used cayenne pepper to turn it red because I wanted it very hot; it was bloody fantastic if I don't say so myself, thanks!
That looks delicious and really simple to make, I will definitely try this ! Could you do something with long pepper? My friend bought me some at Bali and I don't know how can I use it... it is not very common in Europe.
Ahh Pippali, or India long pepper. Just gently crush with garlic and boil it up with tomatoes when you're sick next. It makes an excellent digestive and sinus buster!
Oh man making the other type of dishes that Mallika makes are a bit hard to come by. This recipe however you can easily substitute and or get them really easily in most grocery stores. Im so trying this for 4th of July.
Vindaloo, the ultimate "fusion" dish from the first era of globalisation. Fantastic recipe, thanks!
You are so welcome
Didn't know about that dish originating from Portugal ! Good work ! ( also but not food related , I really loved top shots in that vid )
It does indeed. Thanks tons Alex, and those top shots are ace. SUCH a talented team.
I didn't know that as well! Very interesting. "Vinho e alho" - wine and garlic - somehow managed to sound as "Vindaloo" through Indians mouth, which sounds way more cool. What a wonderful example of cultural exchange that dish is! Cheers from Brazil.
The Portuguese name for the wine and garlic marinade is "vinha de alho". That's the origin of this dish.
How do we do it if we want to use chicken....for how long am I supposed to cook the meat?
I'm from Goa, we're very proud of this dish :)
Such a great recipe and so well presented! Love from India.
Aww thanks tons and love back
Mallika Basu try some age old authentic Andhra food you are definitely gonna love it....
Does anyone else think she looks like an Indian Margaery Tyrell?
More like Nigella Lawson
Fantastic video Mallika. This made me homesick for my mom, dad and grandma's cooking! Thrilled that you mentioned my beautiful home state of Goa and shed some light on the etymology of the word Vindaloo/ vindalho!

I have been watching vindaloo recipes for about an hour, this is the best in terms of production quality, technique and pacing. A+
Love Mallika! This looks fantastic! :)
Thanks so much Donal. You have a big fan in me 😬🙏
+Mallika Basu is ur daughter name bipasa basu or sis?
+Nikki Magar fortunately not as I am not that old! We used to model together in India though. Many moons ago 😅
Finally a vindaloo recipe, I'm a huge vindaloo fan!!!
Me too! *slurp*
+Mallika Basu thank you for the brilliant recipe. I defiantly have to make it soon, although I might add some more chilli.
You are MOST welcome, and go wild on the chilli front!
Mallika Basu Do you happen to have a good Kulfi recipe?
+Mallika Basu brilliant, thanks.
I’ve made this 5 times and it’s amazing every single time I make it!
I love the way Indian accents pronounce 'Passion'. It just seems more... Passionate?
I haven't had a ruby since i left blighty, and living in the southern tip of brazil, indian spices are nowhere to be seen, but after watching you with your recipe, i think i can give this one a go!! Muito obrigado (thank you very much) Malika Basu!!
I've watched 2 dozen pork vindaloo recipes on youtube and none of it matches the beautiful dark colored masala we see in the end there. Simply fab!
Great video, I can smell it already! I love spice any recommendations on what other chillies I could add that would compliment with the kashmiri peppers?
You could try any hot red peppers, if you use fresh ones pls do deseed them first. Add some paprika to get the lovely red colour. Enjoy!
Something new to try during my camping trips.
Looks so yummy. Thank you very much for sharing the recipe.
Great to know the origin of the dish. It looks so good!
I watched the whole thing thinking, 'damn, wish she had her own channel' - then clicked on your face in the comments, and, YOU DO! Subscribed, so glad!
I LOVE authentic Indian flavours. My beloved place to enjoy them is a restaurant by a Hindu temple, so so good.
ahhh you are lovely! That would be Satvic food, our temples have some of the mot sophisticated cooking. Happy cooking!
Hindu temples do NOT serve nonveg.
My dad and boyfriend would love this almost as much as me! Can't wait to try it out 😍
Keep me posted please!
Yes! Vindaloo is my absolute favorite Indian dish. I'm continuously on a quest to see which Indian restaurant can make it hot enough for me, haha.

Was the vinegar strong in it?
Wonderful recipe and nicely explained. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your yummy recipe.
I only had new mexico chilis and some Chinese small red chili on hand, so I used half of each. It is marinating in the fridge right now. I also used pork loin. I am going to brown it then throw in crockpot. Hopefully it will come out delish.

Phew! I am so pleased to hear that.
damn that looks so good!! but did she say 3 serrvings,?? thats like 1 serving lol
2-3, but snaffle it all up yourself ;-)
Mallika Basu lol will do!
+Mallika Basu omg I'm dying! I've never heard "snaffle" before. I love it! Thank you for the great recipe! Making tonight.
Yes I was shocked ... like the pork got shrunken so badly. Did Mallika or Jamie do one 'taste test' too many? ;)
cooked it today with chicken, tastes good.
I've been following your blog for years! So good to see you here.
Oh fab to hear *waves
Thank You for the authentic recipe Madam. 👍
Glad to see our goan recipes portrayed so well and on a platform like foodtube. Please do more Ms mallika. It looks amazing btw

Being Portuguese, I hope this doesn't shock my countrymen too much, but I must admit I prefer the Indian version and also eat it a lot more often than the national counterpart, vinhadalhos. Great upload! Cheers!

This gave me a crazy idea for baby back ribs on the smoker
Genius!
Mallika, I've seen pork vindaloo made with green cardamom pods and bay leaves too. Is this another one of those seemingly classic recipes that contradictorily has a million and one versions, from household to household and restaurant to restaurant?
What a sweet lady, I hope to see more of her cooking here ^.^
Great recipe...

hi there, love to try this, great vid +Mallika! where can i pick up the recipe and method in full please? EDIT : false alarm, found it on your website !! many thanks :)
Is anyone gonna talk about her beautiful hair?
Olivia Antonette ikr!
No, because this is a cooking demonstration and not a beauty show. Stop deflecting from the purpose, for the sake of vanity.
Bengalis have beautiful hair anyway.
her hair rocks.
Yes, I am, Olivia Antonette, merely to agree that her hair is beautiful.
what is a spicier alternative for the chilli?
This sounds and looks delicious. I just wish it had a bit more colour! But it's more authentic than the brightly coloured ones we're used to. I might try cooking this at some point. I love her accent! And as some have said, I would say that's more a 1-2 portion, I would destroy all that myself lol
This looks amazing
great to see you back!
How kind, thanks!
I had no idea it was made with pork. Here in Australia, I can only find beef or lamb vindaloo at restaurants :o . Need to try pork vindaloo!
At last, a proper Vindaloo recipe, I've never got round to roasting the spices, although I know I should, but the end result looks stunning. This is on the menu mid week for sure. Plus shoulder ,meat is sooo much tastier than loin!!!

Best recipe i have seen so far!
Looks so delicious
superb mam feel like back to home
the vindaloo is beautiful, but I think your accent and demeanour far outshines the dish :) lovely presentation
Nice! more of these type of recipes would be great. I'd love to start making my own curry bases.
Really wonderful. I love how dark her cooking goes; it looks full of delicious flavours.
I think she needs someone to help her to eat it, I'm volunteering :)
Definitely going to try her recipes.
Great! Please keep me posted.
+Mallika Basu That would be my pleasure :)
+Mallika Basu Pork is marinading :) My paste isn't red, and I put too much water in. But it smells divine. I'm looking forward to this :)
+Craig Nevermind paste isn't red because I only used two hotter dried peppers. I don't mind.
+Mallika Basu There! I did it :) it was really gorgeous. Yours was better, but I can improve on mine as well.
Thank you, Mallika x
I love this !!! Surely going to subscribe to you.
yayy...a Goan recipe gets featured. An all time favourite on all Goan occasion back in Goa. traditional the masala (paste) was grinded on grinding stones and cooked in clay pots with coconut spoon. slurrrppp
Yaaay! Nothing quite like a good Goan recipe, you just made my mouth water!!
IKR! Feeling proud to be Goan!
OMG that looks soooo yummy! I love spicy food ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
Amazing! I can't wait to try this!
Wow, looks really delicious! Well done :)

Brilliant, thanks!
made Vindaloo for the first time using this recipe, except that I used fresh whole chilies in the paste and then used cayenne pepper to turn it red because I wanted it very hot; it was bloody fantastic if I don't say so myself, thanks!
That looks delicious and really simple to make, I will definitely try this ! Could you do something with long pepper? My friend bought me some at Bali and I don't know how can I use it... it is not very common in Europe.
Can you tell me which pepper it is? Why not try it in this?
it looks like this: www.theayurveda.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Dried-long-pepper.jpg I am afraid to use it since it has a very unusual smell ...
Ahh Pippali, or India long pepper. Just gently crush with garlic and boil it up with tomatoes when you're sick next. It makes an excellent digestive and sinus buster!
Thank you so much for the response ! You are amazing :)
it looks delicious! wanna try out..can you please tell me how much pork you used?
500gm xx
Oh, my, that looked extremely delicious, I'm intrigued!
Was very nice. Just made it. Thank you x 😥
if I were to substitute the Kashmiri chilies with regular dry red chillies, how many should I use?
Oh man making the other type of dishes that Mallika makes are a bit hard to come by. This recipe however you can easily substitute and or get them really easily in most grocery stores. Im so trying this for 4th of July.
I am so making this tomorrow! Thank you!
what a lovely person and what a lovely dish :D heat is always good :P
Two best compliments
I need this.
Always amazing, thank you.
wow yummy
Great recipe! What did you serve it with other than basmati? Was that yogurt sauce? If so what kind?
Just natural yoghurt with a bit of salt and crushed dry roasted cumin. A raita basically
+Mallika Basu thank you! Can't wait to try this. Yogurt should balance it out well. Please make more videos!
Looks great and easy to do. I love the mix of aromatic spices and leaving it to simmer to tenderise the meat right before serving :)
Is it just me or does her voice have a calming affect?
