Hi there!! We've finally had rain the past few days (almost 5"!) after a pretty major drought. Finally temps in the 70's!!
That is awesome!
I direct sowed zinnias and they did amazing!
Awesome!
Love zinnias, they’re going to fill your bed up beautifully. Look at that harvest. Good luck with your ranunculus.

🍆🫑💮 Wow! Your garden never ceases to amaze me! Love the colors of the ranunculus!!!
Thank you!
😊
😀😀😀
I have so many zinnias growing all over my garden. I just take the spent flowers and throw the seeds in the ground and they grow like crazy.
Awesome!
I live in Wisconsin 5b. I planted my second round of zinnias 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if they will have enough sun by the time they bloom?
Amanda, if you haven’t tried fried eggplant you need to try it. Peel and dice into 1/2” dice. Salt and pepper, add cornmeal with a little flour and toss it around to coat. Fry it up until nice and golden brown or how ever you like your food. Soft or crunchy. You can do tomatoes, zucchini or squash the same way. Our bunch eats it like it were popcorn.
So I live in 8b in SC and would love to plant ranunculuses but would like to have flowers available in May for my daughters wedding (don’t worry I’ll have a backup plan), when should I sprout them and when should I plant them outside. I will have a catapillar tunnel and frost cloth. Should I do it in stages to make sure I have some flowers ready in May? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Amanda, thanks for the ranunculus planting reminder
Thanks for taking us along! I’m enjoying learning about gardening in TX. How many hours of sun do your zinnias get in that bed?
Full sun all day so minimum 8 hours but mine get closer to 10.
I have zinnia seedlings popping up all over the garden, some in strange little places LOL I'm letting them grow, hoping to get blooms from them before the first frost :D
It’s always hilarious to me where some seedlings pop up!
Hi Amanda, For those of us living in the middle of the DFW metroplex or the west side I have managed to find Berger BM 7 at The Flower Ranch in Keller. That is a interesting garden center. "Why juggle carts and baskets when you can strut around with your very own personal plant concierge?" Would be a fun garden tour with you if they let you film. 😁
Oh wow!!! That sounds so fun! I’ll check them out!
Omg thank you! I'm in that area!
Thise eggplant are gorgeous! I will have to look for them! I've had ranunculus issues in early spring too. I dont keep th all together though...they are sprinkled around. So not sure how id protect them in a freeze. So maybe i will just give up on them.
Yeah it would be hard if they weren’t all in the same place.
My zinnia seedlings get powerdery mildew in weeks of planting. What can I do proactively? Because the battle lost as soon as the first
Eag shows disease.
Try treating them for powdery mildew as soon as you plant them instead of waiting for it to show up. Also make sure they are getting full sun with plenty of air circulation.
wait, i am in waco zone 8b. i haven't been able to grow ranunculus?
I was not able to grow it well when I planted in the spring but planting in the fall did much better.
Are they exposed to light, grow lights, or kept in darker area?
They are under the soil so they are in the dark.

Spray with water to just dampen when dries out?
Yep I just check them and if they feel a little dry then I spray them.
Totally cover or leave open to air?
I cover mine and then leave the lid slightly askew for some air flow.

I've started ranuncculus corms in January or February and have had the same experience of the heat getting to them after only a few weeks of bloom. I'm in 7b Md/DC but am going to try fall planting this year. I have a raised bed in a sheltered area and plan to cover them. Our winters are usually mild but we do get freezes and thaws. It may not work in my area but I won't know if I don't try.
Good luck!
Great information. Thank you always for sharing your experience with us. I direct sowed Zinnias and they did great. Giving me pretty blooms to cut and arrange. I added Spirea to the arrangement. 🤗
Oh bet that was pretty!
🫶🏻 roasted veg soup sounds delish
It’s yummy!
Fun
Thanks!
