Also, in the era of this drama, only Europeans, let alone Americans, came to Japan. Also,There were no black aristocrats in Europe at that time.

You two never fail to make me smile - especially when you're giggling over John's insults or his budding romance with Mariko! Each episode is a highlight, and I already wish we were getting more than 10 eps! I'm unexpectedly enjoying Fuji as John's consort, hating Omi's sly manipulation of Toranaga's naive son, living for John and Mariko's affection, and full of admiration for the Lord of the Kanto! LOVE this show! Great job, you two!
Toronaga went to Edo. In ep 3 he told his son that he'd stay behind in Anjiro to train the gun regiment while he went to Edo (Tokyo) I think Mariko was taking notes simply to record Blackstones tactics. She serves Toronaga. He wants an advantage.
That is a masterpiece... what a good show!! Tadanobu Asano is killing in this show... his facial expressions by the end of this episode are just priceless...
It wasn't Mariko, you all think modern, in those days there was a concept of "honor and dignity", for her above all, it was the Toronago plan! She wouldn't get mixed up with Varlam for some human convenience!
OK. Without saying anything, here's what I need folks to understand about Mariko. She has always maintained control of her feelings and never acted on them. She tells others to do the same. She serves Torananga, without question. Plus she would never do something and deny it, she has mentioned and showed that she will not lie. That scene was done on purpose so you could think either way. Am sure it may come back later or not, depending how they doing the show. Just wanted folks to think about if Mariko would 'pillow' with someone she was not tied to or vowed to. Someone who believes in tradition and honor.
The problem with the show is that they skipped one of the most important scenes for Blackthorne. In the book they are ordered to teach him Japanese and if he isnt good enough after the next time they check they will execute the whole village, but Blackthrone threatens to commit seppuku if they do that and actually almost does it. That is where Marikos view on Blackthorne changes. They should have included that scene, before they slept together.
Nice to meet you, this reaction is very interesting to me as a Japanese person. Of course, the Japan of today and the Japan of the past are different, but I feel that this spirit is still present in the Japanese people. The act of respecting others and not disturbing the harmony (group) is still alive today. Every Japanese person is conscious of the fact that their town is beautiful. In addition, in the restaurant service industry, there is a spirit of "OMOTENASHI" that provides hospitality to the utmost. I highly recommend that you come to Japan and see it with your own eyes. 19:51 ChainShot! If you TH-cam “chainshot” there’s a mythbuster video of a chain being shot from a cannon and that one doesn’t even have two heavy balls on either side. Based on that video I’d imagine the Shogun scene is pretty accurate of a real ChainShot hitting a live horse and rider.
Ok, I'm just gonna leave it here. I think those are not cannon ball shots but rather chain shots where John was about to teach them (22:51) before Josen arrives on the scene and he didn't have a chance to show them.
Never thought I'd feel so bad for Yabushige. Despite of being a scheming bastard, he seems to be the only sensible one, while everybody around him are just so eager to go batshit insane.
Toronaga went to Edo (aka Tokyo) to get more men and allies. Toronaga (Tokugawa Ieyesu) is Lord of Kanto of which Izu (where Yabushige is a vassal Diamyo) is but a relatively small part. Historically, Tokugawa would muster about 30,000 men under his direct command with a whole host of vassals and assorted allies bringing from 500 to 5000 men each to create an army of about 75,000 - 80,000 strong ahead of the decisive battle between the two sides at Sekigahara.
It’s a medium scale failure in the series that it didn’t make clear Toranaga’s dynamics in Ajiro. 1. First, Toranaga escapes Osaka with Ishido obviously pissed off at him. 2. Toranaga pulled the wool off Yabushige’s eyes by not telling Yabushige of his plan, and using Yabushige as excuse for the escape. 3. If Toranaga told Yabushige of his planned escape then Yabushige could have betrayed Toranaga and gotten into Ishido’s favor. 4. By going through this subterfuge then Toranaga made Ishido suspect that Yabushige is actually playing Ishido for a fool, eviscerating all trust from Ishido to Yabushige. 5. Toranaga has always known that Yabushige is a player and has to be manipulated, otherwise he’s a real danger to Toranaga, hence his instructions to Nagakado that there are no friends or enemies, only rely on yourself. 6. Imagine then, how Toranaga would have felt when he saw Yabushige and Omi’s massive army in Anjiro. He would have been terrified that Yabushige might change his mind, capture Toranaga, and offer Toranaga to Ishido. 7. This is where you see Toranaga’s genius. He made lemonade out of lemons: He went into front and made a rousing speech, so rousing that the troops started chanting his name. This is brilliant because the public loyalty of the troops to Toranaga would have made it more difficult for Yabushige to organize a capture of Toranaga on the spot. 8. And the better to ensure his options, Toranaga suddenly left to go back to his boat and then to Edo where he would be surrounded by his own troops whose loyalty he would not doubt. This move was so secretly planned that only his son knew of it, taking Yabushige by surprise. Toranaga would only ever be near Yabushige is he is surrounded by a multitude of his own loyal troops.
디즈니가 근데 어째서 저렇게 잔인하고 고어한 작품을 허락했을까? 원래 디즈니는 아이들 전용 ott아니였어? 의외인듯? 원래 디즈니는 애니메이션이랑 아이들이 좋아할 그런 작품들이 많았는데, 이번 쇼군은 굉장히 잔인하고 리얼리티하고, 또 고어한 장면을 편집이 그냥 다 보여줘. 디즈니에서 이런 작품은 거의 못본거같아.
Because Disney just bought FX studio, the producer of SHŌGUN. Disney already owns Hulu so it could separate kid friendly from adult content between the 2 brands. However, there are places like Japan and Finland where all of Hulu’s offerings aren’t yet available, so in these markets FX’ shows are offered via Disney+.
