Growing up, a New Yorker was always special because most of the surrounding Chryslers were Newports, and maybe a 300 (sport) while they lasted. A New Yorker meant the owner had money - and they were usually well optioned. (Interstingly though Chryslers always had rather plain interiors compared to similarly priced models from GM/Ford - especially the base Newports of the 60s and early 70s - much like a low line Plymouth) I think the 65-66 were the best looking of all, though the 74-78 gen is nice in its own way, perhaps especially after the NY became an Imperial replacement. After that - well. The 5th Avenue was a common rental car choice in the mid-80s for not that much more per day than a Cutlass Supreme (a 'premium coupe' if I recall). Less said about the last two pre-LHS super K gens the better. That pic for 46 BTW is a special built Derham version styled to ape the then current Continental - they made 2 (for the same guy I think)

Very good. Excellemt work! I liked the footage and what you shared. Excellent information. I thank you for sharing this model as well. I saw something I never really thought about. The 1988 New Yorker looked like and updated version of the 1979 model. The 1988 New Yorker looked like a downsized 1985-1990 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight from the side and the rear. I recall the Imperial connection, but I did not know it was that deep and that far back. I was hoping you were going to mention that too with the 1990-1993 versions. There were so good looking New Yorkers over the years. I liked the styling of 1976-1978, the 1979, the Fifth Avenue New Yorker based on the LeBaron of the 1980's, and the 1988-1993 model( especially Fifth Avenue trim), the 1994-1996 models as well. Thank you again for your efforts and hard work.
To be honest, I miss those cars that looked "handsome" if that's a good way of describing them. When I came to Canada from Hungary in 1965, I was 10, I knew every model by name! The gentleman and his family with whom I was living in Newcastle, Ontario, used to ask me "what's that?" I answered right every time. I wish nowadays they had more style.
I grew up in a Mopar family in the 60s and 70s. Dad upgraded from Dodges to a 1969 Chrysler Newport Custom followed by a 1975 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham 2dr. It was a pretty metallic brown with goldish vinyl top and goldish cloth interior and so much nicer than our neighbors Buicks or Ford LTD. The 440 would scoot, especially after dad tuned it. It was an incredible highway cruiser and would get 16 mpg, better than my smaller Dodge. I think they had it until giving it to my sister in the mid 80s. They also had a 1983 Town & Country wagon (K car platform) with the voice alert, but went to a Dodge Dynasty for 1990 and back to a Chrysler with the Town & Country van in the late 90s.
Very good program. I believe 1962 was the last year the New Yorker had a longer wheelbase than had the Windsors or Newports. I owned a 1980s 318 cu in V8 New Yorker 5th Avenue , driving it well into the 1990s. I sold it with 210,000 miles on the clock. It was super comfortable with the pillow top seats, overall an excellent car..
My parents had a 78 and talk about a pos first up was no O rings in the engine as it turned out within the first 1,000 miles as the dealership kept saying it was breaking in. Number of other things as well including rust (the car was kept in a garage) when not driven.
I'd point out that the 1990 Salon was a tarted-up, rebadged Dodge Dynasty. Slow sales resulted in a decontented Brougham minus the vinyl roof, but with the same front and rear for 1991 Salons.
Chrysler as well Mercury CHANGED from Single Headlights to Quid Headlights and Studebaker/ Packard the same thing only for a different reason to SAVE BOTH COMPANIES ?? And so did the CHECKER / CAB COMPANY...
Man can somebody but a scatpack or a demon engine in these more specific the 30s or 60s model especially in the wagon Great review I'll Def drive either year of this
To 'The Hopeless Car Guy"..Just A Thought & No Offense..IN ALL YOUR CLASSIC CAR REVIEWS ...MUST YOU tell/inform your viewers about the Engine Sizes Available (that's Ok) , but Why Do You Continuously state their Various Transmission Models, Available, (why not just state the most common one ?,,as well as the engines HP, Bhp, Weight, 1/4 mile ET, etc etc,,,, Who Cares About Such?..Its Really Really Monotonous , & Very Very Irritating!!.. Hearing these over and over again in ALL YOUR VIDEOS!!!...Why Not Just tell these things for The Muscle Cars Only , but Why for Cars Such as in this particular video ( Chrysler New Yorker) Why Would One Wanna Know What It Does In The 1/4 Mile....Makes No Sense-Why Not Center You Attention More On Features, Interior, Options , Design, New Features Introduced per Year (& NOT SOLELY ON THEIR ENGINES, & TRANSMISSION OPTIONS, IN EVERY VIDEO YOU HAVE DONE THUS FAR...as I said Just A Thought ...No Offense

I had a 318 Lebaron and it was one of my favorite cars.
the Black Beauty from Green Hornet was a armoured and gadget filled '66 Imperial Crown Sedan with a Hemi V8 440 engine and alloy wheels!
1955 New Yorker did not offer a 4-door hardtop, which appeared in 1956.

Chrysler had a few nice metallic Bronze-ish colors in the 70s, and yeah, those big 440 cars could scoot once they were rolling.

These Chryslers were better looking than any Mercedes Benz or rolls Royce, they looked more comfortable to drive too.
